- Ghostwo, on 07/19/2009, -1/+68Second-hand smoke is healthier than a baby who smokes.
- ManUnitdFan, on 07/20/2009, -0/+37Anything that stops parents from dressing their kids in crap like this:

Babies don't give a ***** what they wear. If you put designer stuff on your kid, he's no longer a child. He's a fashion accessory. - elijahyossie, on 07/20/2009, -0/+25Nothing wrong with second-hand gear - most of my son's is. He doesn't care.
- emjaysea, on 07/20/2009, -0/+20My wife hits our rich neighbors' garage sales, and I'll be damned if my kid isn't the cutest dressed lil ***** in kindergarten.
- spriggig, on 07/19/2009, -4/+21But...but, capitalism!
- levitron, on 07/20/2009, -0/+15I'm always amazed at people who purchase *all* their kids' clothing brand new- for those without kids, you'd be shocked at how much it costs (or perhaps not, if you've bought stuff for a relative/friend's child). The clothes only fit them for a few months, so most clothes are like new anyway- Value Village and other thrift stores are a new parent's best friends.
- Gazthrak, on 07/20/2009, -1/+16Someone didn't get hugs when they were a child.
- TheUngod, on 07/20/2009, -0/+13If it's smoking, you left it in the oven too long. Baby is served best with a hot pink center, not well done.
- Kazbaeden, on 07/20/2009, -0/+11"What every classy baby needs to wear to their social event of the season"
My god... - AmyVernon, on 07/20/2009, -0/+11dugg for truth.
- Solkre, on 07/20/2009, -0/+10My kids get Goodwill clothes and they couldn't care less.
When they get older we'll see, but if they follow me at all they'll wear Goodwill clothes and enjoy the nice entertainment things it allows us to buy. - Zippo, on 07/20/2009, -0/+10I'd say 90% of the potentially harmful crap in clothing is gone after the first or second wash. Just give the clothes a cycle before putting it on them.
- MrDoug, on 07/20/2009, -0/+9Baby "Hand-Me-Downs" are the best. Do I care if my kid is sleeping in PJs that another kid slept/puked/***** in? They get washed almost daily anyways...
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+8Refused to pay my rent because landlord wasn't maintaining the building. He took me to court, I lost, I refused to pay court ordered fine. Not very interesting...
- bigfootindy, on 07/20/2009, -0/+8Garage sales are great for finding cheap outfits - we got most of our son's clothes that way. You'd be amazed what people will sell for $1 an outfit, and a lot of them were never worn... "Name brand" stuff too.
- edrodgers731, on 07/20/2009, -0/+7How is babby baked.
- lisaawesome, on 07/20/2009, -0/+7I have always loved hand me downs. If it's free it's me.
- umarz, on 07/20/2009, -1/+7Clothes - fine but I'd be a little cautious about the safety of second hand cribs, car seats, etc. Someone might not tell you or even know if a crib is missing a part or is old enough to not really be up to today's standards for safety. And a car seat, if they ever had an accident or dropped it, it might have small cracks that could affect the strength and its ability to hold up in an accident.
- wolfing, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6Specially since they'll outwear them in like a month (though at those prices, not even if it lasted them a year!)
- Necoras, on 07/20/2009, -1/+7Um, this is capitalism? There's a supply of perfectly good old clothes and a demand for clothes priced less than what's on store shelves. Supply + Demand = Profit!

- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4I'm joining Al Qaeda.
- redxii, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Ala Judge Dredd?
Robotic Food Dispenser: Eat recycled food. It's good for the environment and okay for you. - MrEguy, on 07/20/2009, -1/+5After seeing a few thalidomide children grown up, I am truly grateful to have a second hand.... and a first.
- solidsnake1298, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4......What kind of social events to babies go to?! Cocktail parties?!
- Barackalypse, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Bah, if we don't expose our young children to these chemicals how are we supposed to evolve resistance to them for future generations?! Think of our children's children x10000, someday they'll be able to eat raw lead and drink formaldehyde with no ill effects at all.
- shmaller, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Why would anyone who is not either retarded or born into money buy clothes that cost a lot of money just to be ***** and puked on by a baby?
- zip000, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3That's why we keep our house filthy - so our kid can build up a tolerance and have a stronger immune system.
Yeah, that's why we do it...or maybe because we're lazy. Either or.
...kidding aside, I basically agree. We baby-proofed to a certain degree, but I think a kid needs to eat a certain amount of dirt. - Monacle, on 08/17/2009, -5/+8Finally, we can put a stop to hundreds of thousands of infant deaths each year from Random Toxicity Syndrome. You know, the disease that babies get from "chemicals" and "toxins". Surely you know someone who's baby died of particle board, right?
Right? - inactive, on 07/20/2009, -1/+4I did 3 months community service in a local charity shop, we steam cleaned everything after it was washed to make sure that any fleas (I'd come home covered in bites every day) or other bugs where killed before they went on the rack. I'd say that clothes from a charity shop are most likely more sterile that clothes bought new.
- paintmeprettyx, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3Yup, and craigslist too. Sometimes I find garbage bags filled with baby clothes people are willing to part with for a small amount of money.
- paintmeprettyx, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3I don't see the point in buying brand new designer clothing for babies. They're going to outgrow it in a month, if not a shorter time frame.
- Mujokan, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3From what I recall, the Travoltas obsessively cleaned their carpets so much that they basically killed their kid. If they hadn't been so rich, he'd probably be alive. My girlfriend's cousin's kid lives in a bubble (metaphorically speaking) and he already seems quite weird to me. Neurotic parents are a health hazard...
- zip000, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2We bought new just about everything for baby number 1 at first, but now pretty much everything he wears (except the diapers) are second hand. We're planning on reusing most of the stuff for baby number 2 whenever that happens. Of course if it is a girl, we'll have to get some amount of pink frilly *****, but she'll most likely mostly be wearing boy clothes a good deal of the time too.
- dianebl, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2ever heard of soap?
- zip000, on 07/20/2009, -1/+3Just because no one's died specifically doesn't mean that there isn't a detrimental health effect. There are a plethora of chemicals around us all the time that just haven't been studied for long term effects. I don't think we should be crazy about it, but we should seriously try to acknowledge the fact that we just don't know what exposure over a long period of time will do and try to do some research into it.
Just dismissing it as sensationalism - even if it is primarily fueled by sensationalism - doesn't mean that there isn't a root problem. - strongsad, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2those shoes were sooooo last season...
- TwinTurboMike, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2I expected to at least see a video of a baby smoking.

http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Film/Pix/ga ... - BrewBeau, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2They wouldn't.
- bigfootindy, on 07/20/2009, -1/+2Totally agree on this one - and you might never hear about recalls/etc.
- DonAlfred, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Most of my clothes is second hand. I can't afford paying for what is around $200 for a pair of jeans or $100 for a shirt.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -2/+3I keep looking for those PJs with the flap on the backside for my girlfriend.
- paintmeprettyx, on 07/20/2009, -1/+2I agree. When both of my kids were born, I bought car seats brand new and the crib was given to me by a trusting family member who took very good care of it. If I didn't get the crib that way, I would have bought that new too.
- Exedous, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1Just wash the clothes before you wear them.
- Arsi, on 07/20/2009, -1/+2Did you know that no baby has ever died because of the fancy new clothes you put on it or the bright pink new paint in its room? WEIRD.
- LordVance, on 07/20/2009, -1/+2***** you, when I was a baby two of my friends died from... wait, I'm doing it wrong aren't I? Umm...
>.> - buckrogers1965, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1You are not the babby shoes you wear.
- BlackCat, on 07/20/2009, -1/+1See CPSIA.
