"Hi, I'm on a scavenger hunt, and I need a human foot?
Well, As a rule I would say no, but okay come in." - drouk1556, on 10/12/2007, -2/+63The missing component here is rock n' roll.
- mbrutsch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+58I worked for 7 years in a hospital, and the hottest woman I've ever seen anywhere in my life was a pharmaceutical rep there. It's the same everywhere; that's why, when Scrubs needed to cast one, they got Heather Locklear.
- kenvsryu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+50Ever heard of sex? I hear it sells.
- SlvrEagle23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28Wow, that sounds depressing. Here, have some Prozac...and some *****.
- quantumHobbit, on 10/12/2007, -7/+34It's sad but these tactics work. I just hope my doctor is professional enough to resist the err, temptation. If you've ever meet a drug rep, they usually aren't bad people, but unlike salespeople in every other industry they have absolutely no knowledge about what they're selling other than the pamphlets given by the company. No knowledge of Org. Chem., Biology, Biochemistry, or Medicine. They can do there jobs with pure charm and sex appeal.
- morsosky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19im a med student and have been around hospitals for a while; hottest girls i see all day are drug reps. Sometimes I think prescribing the drug rep would be better therapy than the drug itself
- cragga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Here in Australia they quite often take my mother (an OR nurse), along with doctors from her hospital out to big fancy dinners and whatnot, its pretty messed up really.
Heaven forbid that they push drugs on their own merit and a basis of actual need, no, its "hey, ***** ***** ***** food food food buy our drugs". - sandus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I was in the lobby at my doctor's office awhile back and in walks this smoking hot blonde. After speaking with one of the nurses at the desk, she sat down next to this anxious looking guy in a suit. Anyway I'm minding my own business, eavesdropping on other peoples conversations, when I hear her start to chat him up:
hot girl: Oh, my god. Are you a rep?
guy:Uh, yeah.
hg: Me too! Have you been to this guy before.
guy: Um, no. This is actually, kind of, my first M.D..
hg: Oh, you don't have anything to worry about. Just walk in, show him your information and make sure to give him plenty of samples.
In walks the doctor.
doctor: Hey, [hot girl's name], nice to see you again.
They both hugged, walked into a room down the hall and closed the door. The poor male pharma rep was still siting in front of me wringing his hands. That short sonofabitch doctor made everyone in that lobby wait 30 minutes, while he was enjoying his mid-life crisis with some 20-something year old bimbo! But I'm not angry. The doc was kind enough to give me a handful of antidepressant samples. Parepin for the win! - signal15, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25Some of them will even offer sex for a signature on the dotted line. A certain large company I know of was contemplating signing a deal for a bunch of AED's for their offices. It was like a $1.5 million deal. The rep came in, locked the door, and started taking off her shirt and asked what she needed to do to get a signature. The guy this happened to... no way he would lie. He also stopped her because he's married and didn't want to be a cheating bastard.
I met a girl on a nude beach in Jamaica that had the most perfect ***** I've ever seen. My fiance complimented her on them, and she responded "Thanks! I just got them. I've been applying for jobs as a drug rep."
I'm sure she's a drug rep by now. - KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Industry reps in all fields are like that. I almost thought I could get fired under company policies for watching some of the videos Taiwanese electronic component providers had introducing their products with the "models" presenting them. Its pretty weird to see something approaching soft core porn involving presenting a new line of flash memory ICs.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15The sad thing is, I wouldn't be too surprised if some of the "better performing" reps earned more than some of the researchers developing the drugs themselves... Its not good when an attractive young biochemist has brighter prospects flirting with old doctors in the drug industry than developing new treatments.
- rmacnguyen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15@ signal15:
Pics or it didn't happen. - missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I second that. Reps actually do have to know a lot about the drugs they're pushing; I'd say in many cases they know as much about the drugs as your pharmacist.
- dafreshfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13A friend of mine (yes, she is pretty hot) was a pharmaceutical sales rep and there are many different types of reps in the market. The most common ones that hire attractive women are not true sales reps, but a sort of sales influencer. These types of sales reps actually don’t sell anything to doctors and don’t have a quota like a normal sales rep. They are measured based upon market share of their drug in their specific territory. For example, in my friend’s region, her commission was based upon if she had #1 market share for her drug vs. competitors. The main difference with these types of jobs is the fact that she never actually sold anything to the doctors, she basically had to build a good relationship with the doctors so they would prescribe her drug over her competitors’ drugs leading to greater market share. She had an expense account that would allow her to host dinners for the doctors, golf outings, etc. all in the name of driving market share. Keep that in mind when your doctor prescribes a really expensive drug to you…
- KennMac, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17"but unlike salespeople in every other industry they have absolutely no knowledge about what they're selling other than the pamphlets given by the company. You have clearly revealed that you have no clue what you're talking about. There is a rigorous training process the reps must go through before representing a product. You really think these doctors don't grill these guys before they sign on the line? We're talking big numbers here. A pretty smile doesn't go *that* far. - geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Normally I like to see a hot girl but not when I'm in the waiting room and she's pushing drugs onto my doctor. Then there's the optometrist assistant who uses her boobs to assist you in buying expensive glasses you don't need. And it works.
- Nudar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I am well able to resist the drug reps. There's one that I refer to as "valley girl" just by the way she talks. I can't really take anything she says about a medication seriously. I mean these people just memorize the brochure and do not know how to treat patients. Actually most of the reps I encounter are men. :-(
- WozzaShaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I woked with a pharmaceutical company on a project, the rep they sent was pretty tidy. However, it was a bit of a worry when i realised she had an I.Q. equal to that of a glass of water.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@cragga
I know - my mum's a doctor and she gets taken out to dinners, drinking sessions disguised as seminars and the lot. Imagine if your local member of parliament did that. Oh...right. - nealpolitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Your crazy-fu has defeated me.
- painkillr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10so she had to suck a lot of dicks is what you're saying right?
- DavidDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I just have one question: are we saying that the system is working as designed when this is going on? Doctors are supposed to be professionals...so why are they being subjected to seductive drug dealers?
Do you see what I'm getting at???
some of my ex-clients were big pharma. There isn't a damn thing they do that government and research labs couldn't do at least as well or better - and I mean every step of the drug dev process. Public money to fund clinical trials makes perfect sense since it is money well spent for the purpose of protecting the public.
Attractive drug reps == manipulation
Big pharma is a cancer that must be eradicated. - niradg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7they're smart too. they send handsome young men, not beautiful women, to my mother's office.
- Alfdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Miss FHM 2006... Diana Chiafair... a pharmaceutical rep
http://www.fhmonline.com/girls_girls_of_fhm_article.asp?cnl_id=1&stn_id=1&idx_id=2814&gofp_slot=1 - tinman79, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Though they may not have the breadth of knowledge about all drugs and medical treatments, they often do have to learn as much as possible about the product they concentrate in or even most of the main products of their company. Many also do in fact have undergraduate backgrounds in the sciences. They are often asked questions by the doctors about the medication. If they don't know the answer or don't at least have a good response, they are doing the opposite of promoting their drug.
Now I am only a medical student, but I do realize that they are a very biased source of information, but information none the less. I'm not saying they are good, they are evil, but some are not as worthless as hobbit thinks. Then again, some are completely worthless, but I'm guessing most doctors see through that. - grungemusic3001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6uh-oh i think we've got a scientologist among us. I wouldn't know cause I'm trapped in the closet with R Kelley and John Travolta
- crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I hear ya. My friend was going out with a med. rep. Even showed me cell phone pics of her in bed with nothing but the sheets. Face of an angel. Skin that made you cry.
Lucky SOB.
then his wife found out, by using his cell.
Took their kids, the house plus alimony.
But I'm sure it was worth it... - crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i ended up buying lenses that magnified images.
- dwhitbeck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I would like to know just how much discussion the drug reps have with doctors about side effects. I talked to a heart specialist and told him I was getting muscle weakness when taking statins. He just brushed me off. I asked him about taking niacin instead and he said the trouble with niacin is that it does nothing to raise HDLs. According to my own research, niacin is the best for raising HDLs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Pics or it wasn't prescribed.
- Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I was in my doctor's office when a couple of those reps came in.
I said "Ah, pretty women with drugs ... I must be in the right place!"
Of course, I apologized. Why, I don't really know ... - daeyeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5make sure to capatilize HOT...yeah, good job. front page material in no time
- darny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Q: Why are HOT girls are pushing pharmaceutical drugs?
A: Because a lot of doctors are men, and men have penises.
No need to read the article. - cragga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5goddamn wealth accumulation.
- fulldecent, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Your mom's not hot is the problem.
- shortarabguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wanted more pics...

Sales guys/girls ALWAYS make more than the people doing the actual work. - allaboutdatiki, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9The horrors!
Companies hire sales people based on their looks?
I'm just shocked. - robby818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually, she probably had to carry a lot of lunches, go to a lot of boring dinners, and try to look like she was not completely dis-interested in what a doctor is saying.....It's actually a pretty tough job and there's a lot of evaluations--read stress and pressure.
i would love to know how much pharm. companies spend on this kind of stuff compared to R&D--the reason they say drugs cost so much.
- shableep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5unfortunately in todays society, i think greed has more backing than honesty.
- wmtrader, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I worked as a network technician at a non profit mental health care agency in the Santa Clara Valley of California and the pharmaceutical sales people that came in to the main office to sale their drugs to the Doctors where the hottest woman I have ever seen, and they would never acknowledge the existence of a non Doctor or non Executive.
I latter worked at the HQ of a west coast health care provider located in Oakland California and again hot woman coming in to sell drugs, only these woman where rude as can be..then again most everyone at that place where not to cool towards the IT support staff. - Karyyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4People are generally shallow and self-absorbed...the minute someone tickles their fancy, their good judgment flies out the window, especially when it pertains to OTHER people. I'm glad we have people spending good money to reinforce our grasp of the obvious...
"...a classic 1983 paper Webster and Driskell reported that attractive people are generally thought to be more intelligent and more competent, including when judged on their likely performance on tasks completely unrelated to good looks, such as 'ability to pilot a plane.'"
Wonderful. Never underestimate the stupidity of people under the effect of eye-candy. Kind of a bitter pill to swallow for the pocket-protector set... - bcasper1, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15thats not entirely true because my mom used to be a pharm rep and she had to learn a lot of *****' *****. She would have to study all the time because they needed to know all the biology behind every drug. You know when you get a prescription of anything and you find that folded up wad of paper in there, and you unfold it to be this huge mass of tiny font instructions and warnings and what not...they have to know everything on there. eventually my mom quit.
- palmdoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sometime back someone discovered a whole bunch of Cheerleaders who doubled as Pharma reps.
I think Pharma companies have got it all wrong, now that some med schools have more women than men. More here:
http://medicine.com.my/wp/?p=1791 - cnycompguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4a hot chick pushing something into me, talk about roll reversal...
- rmah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's not just hot girls. My sister is a doctor and she's told me some interesting stories about how her female staff go all ga-ga when one or another hot male rep comes visiting. Her office doesn't buy or prescribes many drugs, but they do use a lot of equipment. Thing is, as she put it, often firm A's stuff is pretty much identical to firm B's stuff so it doesn't really matter which company they buy from. Figure it out for yourself.
- Doggpound, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I can vouch for this post as I work at Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin and damn all of them female drug reps are fine!!!
- abcdefghij, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6bcasper1's mom has got it going on,
