It becomes an addiction when it causes you trouble in other areas of your life.
Pretty much everyone enjoys sex. But if you choose to have sex, knowing that there will be negative consequences, but are unable to say no, then you could call that addictive behavior.
If you choose to have sex instead of going to work, knowing that you'll lose your job, that's the behavior of an addict. If you choose to have sex with someone, knowing that it will cost you a happy marriage, that's the behavior of an addict.

- MiddleOfNowhere, on 09/02/2008, -2/+6Agreed - good sex is addictive. And especially when you're young and get what you want, no-one will bother. If you're 20 and have a hot girlfriend, you're practically expected to screw like rabbits.
The problem with famous actors and musicians is not related to their drug of choice (sex for Duchovny, every consumable drug on the planet for Amy Winehouse), but their narcissism. Most of the people who made it in Hollywood and the charts are literally addicted to public attention, and celebrating your personal tragedies is part of that.
So instead of sorting out things quietly, Duchovny gives a press statement, asking people to respect his and his family's privacy, which is the equivalent to emo kids publicly slitting their wrists while crying "Ignore me! Go away and let me suffer!"
So you have some psychological problem (self-destruction, poor impulse control) and another one (narcissism) multiplying it. And don't we love to see attention whores through their little dramas (which also can become addictive)?
