IT'S A VIRUS, WE'RE NOT PERSONALLY ACCOUNTABLE FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO SHUT OUR CAKE HOLE, DEAR GOD THAT HAMBURGER IS COMING RIGHT AT US OM NOM NOM NOM. - PxCxG, on 11/09/2008, -3/+42Of course it's contagious -- fatties bring KFC buckets or donuts to parties and offices, and once they're there...well, don't mind if I do...
- slapded, on 11/10/2008, -1/+23Being fat is all fun and games until you want to try on new pants.
- diemunkiesdie, on 11/09/2008, -3/+25Well duh! If everyone is getting fatter and you are the only skinny freak out there, you are going to find it more acceptable to pack on a few pounds!
- KSUdesigner, on 11/10/2008, -2/+23TYPING IN CAPS IS A VIRUS TOO. OH GOD I'M INFECTED!
- Kordras, on 11/10/2008, -1/+20That's my new excuse.
"Dude, go to the gym or something."
"***** you, the ice age is coming!" - inactive, on 11/10/2008, -1/+15Every time I return home to the u.s. people say that I'm too thin. I've only gained 10 pounds in the past 10 years since I left (6ft 1in 185 pounds). But all my friends and family have blown up to the size of small whales. They get really upset when I tell them the kind of food I eat on a daily basis. But they won't listen when I tell them the secret. When you're no longer hungry, STOP FRIKKIN EATING!
- polalion, on 11/10/2008, -0/+14***** I'm infected!
- cupboardwitch, on 11/10/2008, -0/+14Perhaps humanity is just preparing itself for the next ice age?
- hamobu, on 11/09/2008, -4/+16According to that logic, nobody would want to lift weights and body build because few people out there have really big muscles.
- gospe1337, on 11/10/2008, -2/+13Speculation + dubious source = digg frontpage
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+11IT'S COMMIN' RIGHT FOR US!
- Ne007, on 11/10/2008, -1/+10The cure for this virus is to stop eating fast food and stop eating anything with high fructose corn syrup...and also getting up off your ass and exercising.
Can I patent that? - vsujohn2, on 11/09/2008, -3/+12I guess if everyone else is fatter than me, I don't feel so bad about gaining a few. I mean its hard to resist so times. Well, especially when the Fresh sign is lit up at Krispy Kreme. No normal human being can turn away from that.
- hellsing47, on 11/10/2008, -2/+11God fat people ruin EVERYTHING
- Mujokan, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8They didn't say it was a virus.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -1/+8Being fat is a barrel of laughs.. so to speak.
- jnorris441, on 11/10/2008, -0/+7It's almost like the fat are having children or something!
- theadvinci, on 11/10/2008, -4/+10The world is doomed. If McDonalds and KFC won't be banned then I don't see a way out.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6I've got weight aids.
And there's nothing I can do to shake it. - JFitzpatrick, on 11/10/2008, -1/+6Aside from the stupid virus label, the article is pretty accurate.
Hang out with people who drink a lot and it's likely you'll become tolerant to the idea of heavy alcohol consumption. Hang out with people who have no goals and sit around and bitch about how everyone else has the good life and you'll find yourself one day sitting around bitching about life passing you by. Hang out with a bunch of obese people, and you're bound to start seeing a gain of a few pounds here and there as nothing to worry about. After all you're only 10 pounds overweight, but everyone you roll with is 50 pounds overweight! - TheFinaleofSeem, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5*****. How much does a pound of broccoli cost? How much does a bunch of bananas cost? Hint: It's usually less than $1/lb. Healthy food can be very cheap, but it usually takes more time to prepare than telling the Happy Burger pizzaface what you want in your Supergreasydeluxeburger meal.
- greatgatsbyII, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5Crap, you're making me feel bad about this bag of M&Ms.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -3/+8Food is expensive. Especially healthy food. With fast food, you can get 10 burgers for $10. I wonder what people will choose...
- Amazetbm, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4How about putting yourself on a healthy diet as well as not eating at those places?
- dfross, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4I dunno, what about trying to educate people to not eat at KFC 10 times a week?
I'll leave this here so then in 50 years time when we've exhausted everything else and finally try some common sense, I'm going to look like a fricking genius. - jeffreys1, on 11/09/2008, -6/+10What news will the guardian break next - Water is Wet?
- stk198323, on 11/10/2008, -1/+5You read, took time to understand what they said, took even more time to bury it for no apparent reason and then took the time to comment that you did not cared and you buried it.
You really expected people to bow before you like your the next big star or what? - Zzone, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4no soda fatty
- stk198323, on 11/10/2008, -1/+5Wow your such a retard! Of course obesity is not a VIRUS it spreads LIKE one.
And you know correlation is not causation is a bit... no a lot overused lately! For christ sake, phrase it differently or anything but saying the same ***** thing everytime two thing's are compared is starting to be annoying! There was no where in the article that stated that obesity IS a virus... you know a virus is a little living organism (or dead depending on your definition of living organism it seems)infecting people, obesity is the fact of being too ***** big for what you should be... quite a lot of difference between the two of them! - beck5, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4The article isn't written by a pair of fatties looking for sympathy, its a pair of well respected academics.
- badmigraine, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3"We're" not "all" getting fat. It's mostly people in N. America who have this problem. And, the conventional wisdom is that it's universal, not due to overeating, it's a disease, it's OK, etc.
Wrong. Just look at newsreels from the 50s, 60s and even 70s. Not a lot of fat people. The average male between WWI and WWII was lean and fit. Not a bloated fatty or one of these people with a giant, hard round bulbous brisket hogsbelly crammed full of lard. - beck5, on 11/10/2008, -1/+4dubious source? I think you should read it again fatty
- dunadan67, on 11/10/2008, -2/+5Look at the proliferation of fast food "restaurants" across the US over the last 60 years and correlate it to local obesity levels. The equivalent of disease-carrying plague rats?
- lintmonkey, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3If you don't want 'em, I'll take 'em.
- MudMan69, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3I smell the distinctive scent of *****.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Or, going further down the chain, you can get ramen for $.10 a package.
- jadrian, on 11/10/2008, -1/+4That's certainly not true everywhere in the world.
Just took a look at the online page of a Portuguese supermarket chain (continente):
fresh sardine - 2 EUR / Kg
hamburgers - 5,49 EUR / kg
Yes they sell fresh fish in our supermarkets chains. I always found it easy to eat healthy and cheap back home. Here in the UK it's much harder, yet I still manage. Fact is most people just don't give a *****. - raynar, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3but then i cant blame society and take no responsibility for my actions.
- stk198323, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Memnochxx:
Virus contains DNA sequence, so depending on your definition of living organism, some say's it's alive, some say's there ''dead'' and some say's well that DNA stash over there that never was alive. - sirmasterboy, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2If this is true, why have I been losing weight and the doctor tells me I need to eat more? I'm 20, 6'1 and 140lbs, I used to be 150lbs at 6'. Ive lost 10 lbs since I started college about 2 years ago wtf is going on then?
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2i can never comment about obesity because i eat like a ***** fat retard but im still skinny as a pole. my metabolism takes away my ability to judge others.. because honestly i could never be fat even if i tried.
- dwalker, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2I have not even read it but can hear the sheaking already from the fat FI_I CKERS:
"I cant help it I have the fat virus!" - linagee, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Why does this not have like a hundred diggs? Dugg down by fat people?
- Leviathan433, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2You so not grammar.
- solid12345, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2The average person may have been lean but not fit, the concept of the workout gym for the average person didn't really break out until the 70s, people used to consume massive amounts of bacon, steak, eggs and other fatty foods then. The difference is it wasn't packed with preservatives and sodiums like everything now, that ***** is hard to get out of your system.
- priegog, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Where did you go to live? Just out of curiosity...
Whatever the case, good for you! - linagee, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2How much time to prepare a banana? 3 seconds to peel it? LOL. No they'd rather "make it a combo" and have fries and a coke thanks.
- linagee, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2The virus is transmitted by television fast food ads too.
- lintmonkey, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2NO! NO NO! NONONONONONONO!
