- chuckDontSurf, on 04/13/2009, -0/+20Do you always have arguments with yourself?
- OasisR123, on 04/13/2009, -0/+20Dugg because that means I'll be living like 40 years......
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -0/+18Great - according to this, I'm liable to drop dead any day now.
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -0/+17Don't worry be happy.
- chuckDontSurf, on 04/13/2009, -0/+16I think you should be more concerned about the hair on your teeth.
- hobogeneral, on 04/13/2009, -1/+16ARTICLE TEXT PASTED HERE:
Worried about living longer? Stop worrying. - JCEEZ, on 04/13/2009, -0/+7Men have to worry about women.
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -1/+8Easier said then done.
- ZeeZee2k, on 04/13/2009, -2/+8Basically, you just have to be a prick.
- llibja, on 04/13/2009, -1/+7This article jives well with all the pro marijuana stuff hitting Digg these days. Smoke pot, no worries, live to a hundred.
- KarateMedia, on 04/13/2009, -1/+7FTA: "on average more outgoing, agreeable, and less neurotic"
Oh *****. I'm gonna be dead by sundown... - wadick4, on 04/13/2009, -2/+8It is suddenly more strange that women live longer than men.
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -2/+8I'd rather not live to a hundred.
- danielorbital, on 04/13/2009, -1/+7*than*
- PixelMagic, on 04/13/2009, -1/+6That attitude will make you live longer. I've been not giving a ***** for a while now, and my stress level is almost 0.
- axm9505, on 04/13/2009, -3/+8meh who cares.
- RavagesOfTime, on 04/13/2009, -0/+5OK. How?
- njhardc0re, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4I like meat... dammit.
- Jabele, on 04/13/2009, -1/+5In unrelated news, the average digger's lifespan is only 45 years...
- AudioLoveMagic, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4I'm with you. Maybe we should write a book of answers with no actual answers like a lot of these self-help frauds then we'll have millions of worry-free dollars.
- Oinkie, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4I will die young :(
- JFitzpatrick, on 04/13/2009, -2/+6Even though "stop worrying" comes off as kind of silly light hearted science... in fairness everyone in my family that lives in good health into the 90-100+ range... has been really kind, easy going, and not necessarily worry free (after all all of them were alive during the Great Depression) but able to put things in perspective and keep a positive outlook.
All the snarky ***** died off early. - conebone69, on 04/13/2009, -3/+7I don't want to live that long.
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -1/+4Makes sense - those other things may indirectly contribute to heart health, but stress directly triggers the release of a hormone that increases blood pressure and heart rate. In the short term, this increases oxygen flow to the brain, which is useful because it allows one to be able to think more clearly to solve the problem causing the stress, but in the long term, this wears down the heart.
- BalancingAct, on 04/13/2009, -1/+4Stress is one of the biggest killers, if not, thee biggest. Studies based on Italian Americans suggest that stress is a far bigger killer(at least where heart disease is concerned) than smoking, drinking, unhealthy eating, and lack of exercise combined.
See Roseto Effect such as here:

They drank loads, smoked loads, did little exercise, and had tons of fat in their food, but they lived in a relatively stress free community far removed from the rat race. They consistently lived into old age. - traveler1217, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3Nah. That list of people NEEDS to expire early.
- MeatMountain, on 04/13/2009, -1/+4OH GOD IM DOOMED DOOOOOOOOMED
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -2/+5Huh? Why?
Women worry much less than men... They have less responsibility and no accountability. Why wouldn't they live longer? - qxrt, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2I'm wondering how much of that sunny disposition has to do with getting old, though...
As people get older and turn into seniors, many of them (not all, of course) do tend to mellow out and see the world in a lighter manner as they have their experiences to look back on and see the world in a new light. Perhaps that could be an explanation for the less stress found in the elderly, rather than it being the other way around? - minorthreat, on 04/13/2009, -1/+3dissurmom is right. Women make mundane issues seems like big problems and let everyone and their grandmother know about it. While some of us men who have real responsibilities and are hold accounted for our actions will stress and worry without letting anyone know.
- colasrtney, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2We're already dead anyways.
TGIM everybody! - hobogeneral, on 04/13/2009, -1/+3You're killing me here.
- itsbob, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2AHHHH!
Get that song out of my head! - conebone69, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2if that were true...
i'm not stressed or crazy, but who wants to live to be 100 honestly? - adamnikyo, on 04/13/2009, -1/+3Don't worry about it.
- iticu, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Then you can be as neurotic and stressed as you want.
Congratulations? - Boofster, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1This can't be accurate. Women worry 99% of their day about irrelevant ***** and they outlive all men. /end
- hoojx34, on 04/13/2009, -1/+2OK. i am gonna do it.
- jcdickerson, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Crap - I inherited the worry gene from my mom. My wife is the most relaxed person I know. I'm a dead man walking.
- LokitheComplex, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1if you're depressed or paranoid just kill yourself
/s
i'm tired of these reports saying being down is bad for you
if its really such a bad thing why would we have evolved to be miserable?
its about competing strategies
sometimes being a depressed, neurotic helps
and sometimes being a pan optimist is dangerous and reckless - Ilfirimain, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1I worry like crazy all the time over class and my grades and things like that. Guess I'm screwed =(
- Darkyuubi, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Oh look. Somebody else read The Outlier heh.
- thisthatwhat, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Love how articles can be written on stating the obvious. :) Got me to read it, so it succeeded!
- Stevethegreat, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1I've gotta say, though, that that's a stupid argument. Everybody wants to live, if not you would had committed suicide already, the real argument is not how much you may live but what quality of life you would like to have. One hundred inconsequential and boring years -indeed- are way too much, but there are others in their 90s who still feel that they have more to give to (and get from) the world.
There are times like this that I would like people to be -at least- familiar with the work of Epicurus; "1 year of fulfillment is better than 100 years of (mental or physical) slavery but 100 years of fulfillment are better than one year of fulfillment". Answering to the question whether you would like to live to your 100s or not is useless as the question in itself is too general to make sense... - LegomanArt, on 04/13/2009, -1/+2That's not always true. Pikachu chose Ash.
Oh wait, we're talking about happiness. - AudioLoveMagic, on 04/13/2009, -3/+4You just made me literally laugh out loud.
I needed that. Thanks. - RIPtechtv, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1At the fine age of 21 I better start getting my will together.
- slaystench, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1I'm screwed.
