Video of psychiatrists admitting no cures
cchr.org — Incredible! This is a video of approximately 30 psychiatrists from the recent American Psychiatric Association meeting admitting that they don't have any medical tests for insanity, and they don't have any cures to Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, etc. It's right on the home page, or go to http://www.cchr.org/uploads/video/no_science.wmv

- ebliss, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0If there was a cure, the psychiatric patients would not have to take medications everyday!
- turbotad, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0That rocks.
- Sk8erG, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Not only do psychiatrists not have a cure but they are the source of the misdiagnosis they are "trying to cure".
Check out what happened to Kurt Cobain, on the same site. "A talented and creative child, Cobain was misdiagnosed as "hyperactive" and prescribed the cocaine-like and highly addictive Ritalin. Side effects include insomnia, nausea, abdominal pain, hallucinations and a predisposition to later cocaine use..."
"...He enrolled in a Los Angeles psychiatric drug recovery center. Thirty-six hours after admission, he bolted and ended his life with a single shotgun blast to his head. Heroin and Valium were found in his blood stream."
This is a serious issue. - CrazyWolf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Of course they don't have a test for insanity. Insanity is a legal term, not a psychological one.
And as for the video, the inaccuracies and biases are pretty ridiculous. Many 'medical diseases' are agreed upon and diagnosed in the same way. Symptoms are a more reliable way to diagnose mental diseases because testing levels of most neurochemicals would require a painful and dangerous lumbar puncture.
Beyond that, a disease doesn't need to be caused by a chemical imbalance to be effectively treated with medicine. Many medical diseases have unknown causes, but can still be treated quite effectively by treating the symptoms. You can tell whether a disease works by whether it helps people more than a placebo. You can tell whether it causes patients negative effects in the same way. The FDA already requires that, and no value judgments are required.
Diseases that have nothing to do with the mind are identified in the same way that this video demonizes the psychological profession for identifying psychological diseases. A case study is made making note of a recurring set of symptoms, and then work in done in finding ways to treat and or explain it. - littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This "story" or video, or whatever it is, is Scientology Propaganda. I don't even open Scientology Propaganda links.
