- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -0/+54Illegal alcohol consumption is a huge business.

Something is clearly wrong with Australian news. - RoyalPeach, on 11/11/2008, -4/+30Lower the drinking age!!! I f i can vote and go to war i should be able to drink!!!
- gubbie, on 11/11/2008, -0/+24Seriously. Whatever happened to all those college presidents across the country calling for lowering it to 18?
Thanks for the false hope, jerks :[ - inactive, on 11/11/2008, -2/+15your sister sounds like a lovely woman
- wristpull, on 11/11/2008, -1/+13And what better way to have your first sexual experience than dizzy, vomiting, and on a pool table in front of a bunch of strangers?
- keithwired, on 11/11/2008, -0/+12So then shouldn't the government have to take their hands off the money? I mean, they are up in arms about the underage drinking problem while no one notices them taking the wads of cash and stuffing it in their pockets.
- aussieNickuss, on 11/11/2008, -0/+12Drinking age in Australia (where this article is from) is 18. Aussie kids can vote, drink, smoke, drive and go to war all on the day of their 18th birthday if they so desire.
- malakite33, on 11/11/2008, -1/+12Illegal pot consumption is a huge business.
- VII7, on 11/11/2008, -1/+12"they are drinking to get drunk" really...?
- pmkenny1234, on 11/11/2008, -1/+12That's what happens when you have a puritan law of hypocrisy like drinking laws (or drug laws or age or sexual consent or any of many others). Almost everyone breaks these laws yet we still keep them on the books through some insane belief that our kids won't do exactly what we did. It's like outlawing lying. People will do it regardless of what the stupid law says.
- semperfidoordi, on 11/11/2008, -0/+11She is.
- mattgee725, on 11/11/2008, -0/+10I would really like to see these statistics for America. The legal drinking age here is an absolute joke.
- CaptainCool53, on 11/11/2008, -0/+9Exactly. And the intended purpose of the laws is completely lost. If you don't want kids getting hurt or driving drunk, then teach them responsibility. Let them drink socially in settings safer than a parentless house.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -0/+8Liquid panties remover.
- billizm, on 11/11/2008, -0/+6Legalize marijuana and enforce tax on it.
- LogicBomB, on 11/11/2008, -1/+7I'd be interested to hear if there is a good argument for an underage liver not being developed enough to properly handle alcohol.
Or an underage lung handling smoking.
I'm not saying it's right or wrong or anything like that - just curious when those organs are physically "up to the task". - ericgungon, on 11/11/2008, -2/+7umm, who the hell in the world really cares about the drinking age. At least in America everyone drinks way before their 21. They should just change the law since it really stupid and the government would probably make more money and they can find reasonable ways to make drinking safer for everyone.
- fkuall, on 11/11/2008, -0/+5there's more:
* Man shot in neck as drug deal goes wrong
* 13-year-old suicide bomber kills four
* Destroy house of horrors, owners plead
* 'Op *****-up turned my penis black' - EarlOfLade, on 11/11/2008, -0/+5This is what I find funny and totally stupid about USA. Drinking age is 21, age of consent is 18, but you have no problems charging an 8 year old as an adult and locking him up for the rest of his life. Talk about being consistency in viewing what a child is... Sickening!
- domnu, on 11/11/2008, -0/+5However, if kids learned to enjoy alcohol in a responsible fashion prior to being thrown in with a bunch of other unexperienced minors, maybe things would be different.
- qwertyxuiop, on 11/11/2008, -0/+5drinking ages are stupid
teach teens responsible drinking at home and in social settings and you will decrease dangerous binge drinking in college
guaranteed - anarchyinthekr, on 11/11/2008, -0/+4what are you talking about? sex when you're drunk does not suck because you're drunk. in retrospect it might suck, but at the time it was terrific so it's worth it
- AresDiggs, on 11/11/2008, -0/+4"getting pulled over" So you drink and drive? You sir are an idiot! I drank way before it was legal to drink... but never ever got behind the wheel... I was not willing to endanger someone elses life at the expense of my fun ... but hey whatever makes a great story... right?
- Swivelstick, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3What else would you expect from a Rupert Murdoch organisation (read not a news source)?
- Barackalypse, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3Eliminate the artificial restriction by removing the drinking age entirely, let the parents of the kids keep track of them if they don't want their little angels drinking, it isn't society's job to police the actions of your kids that don't hurt others.
- TheScogg, on 11/12/2008, -0/+3Speak for yourself! Sex when you're drunk is just as awesome as sex sober, and twice as fun when she's drunk too. You may not remember much of it the next day, but sometimes that comes in handy when you don't want to remember how much you enjoyed her sticking her finger in your ass.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3Half of that is probably due to Corey the Australian Party Kid.
Keep on truckin! - bonjourmr, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3The sooner you start, the sooner you stop in most cases.
- stonedgeek, on 11/11/2008, -1/+4Is there another way?
- DforSpiD, on 11/12/2008, -0/+3Bring it on yank!
- doctordbx, on 11/12/2008, -0/+3"Yea, and we Americans will still drink you under the table."
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA! Funniest thing I read all day.
Americans can't drink for *****.
Edit: The only people I've really seen that can outdrink Aussies are the Germans. - bromac, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3Fact: the drinking age is trumped by parental consent and supervision. At least in Canada it is.
It's not illegal, immoral nor unethical to teach your child responsible drink and respect for it when they come of age. - chugatussin, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3Thats how it should be, being from Ontario, Canada.. I could vote, drive, join the army.. but not drink when i was 18
- Daxx22, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3Cept it's totally uncool to drink with your parents ;)
- pmkenny1234, on 11/11/2008, -1/+4No. Obviously laws are a necessity to maintaining a sense of social coherence. I'm saying that laws that nearly everyone breaks might not need to be reexamined. If everyone breaks them then clearly society is not in agreement with this rule.
Murder is against the law because most of us believe it is wrong AND we don't do it. If we all agree murder is wrong but the majority of us still murder all the time then we are hypocrites and should reexamine if we really think murder is wrong. - Oztog, on 11/12/2008, -0/+3Take that! America, in your face
- Oztog, on 11/12/2008, -0/+2And better beer and beaches....hmm and we have seafood for xmas lunch....we are that good
- noisymime, on 11/12/2008, -0/+2Just for those in America, drinking age here is 18 so underage drinking generally means 15-17
- m0tbaillie, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2This would never happen in the States, I can't count the number of parties I've been to that some 18-year old freshman was busy puking their guts out at 8:30 and passed out by 9.
- Jacolyte, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Sure it's illegal, but is it immoral?
- aussieNickuss, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Pre-mixed drinks......Cruisers, Smirnoff, Bourbon/Coke etc...
- JCEEZ, on 11/11/2008, -1/+3Dude, every Australian I've ever hung out with is awesome to drink with, or as they say "ace on the piss". As far as I'm concerned Aussies are just like Americans, but with an accent and cooler animals.
- Myztry, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2The problem lays with addition. While the consumer gets addicted to tobacco, alcohol, gambling, etc the government gets addicted and becomes reliant on the taxes and duties they gain from allowing it.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2I have a really bad hangover.
- spaceddaisy, on 11/12/2008, -0/+2When both partners have had a little too much to drink:
1. Not always and hey like anyone's gonna notice
2. Stumbling around pressed together, ripping off each others clothes because you can make those precise unbuttonning movements... doesn't sound bad to me
3. Also not necessarily a bad thing
I've had some great passionate, uninhibited sex while intoxicated. You can really go wild and let go of any conditioned hang-ups.
Maybe you never tried it? Or with the wrong person? - Gizza, on 11/12/2008, -0/+2You know what. I found a good way to avoid speeding tickets is to not speed. Funny that.
