To this day I don't trust anything that rhymes. - Plinkyle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+67Sometimes you just gotta take the edge off after recess

- blitzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+38Hopefully these kids move to England so we can taser them...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37Uh yeah - when I was in 5th grade, man I drank everything! Beer, wine, whiskey, you name it! It rocks dude.
Folks, poll any 5th grader about alcohol, and youre going to get LIES. This is the age when its cool to brag about things you really havent ever done, remember??? When I was in the 5th grade, I had "done" marijuanna, alchohol, and was no longer a virgin by like 30 girls in the 7th grade. - p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24Reports are *****, according to a new report
- tunafizzle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18I guess it's just time to sit the kids down and tell them
"Don't ever pick up that can of Bud, Miller, or whatever. Just tell them it's always a good decision.... to go for Samuel Adams. - size13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17You do realise that your sense of taste changes as you get older? I hated beer as a kid, but now drink and enjoy it.
- Nethid, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18Wow... I read that as "Hopefully these kids move to England so we can taste them".... I was pretty freaked out for a second.
- targetX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16haha :P still a virgin then I assume?

- Treshnell, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Half the problem, I believe, with things like this is that it's so forbidden. You can't drink before you're 21! Alcohol is bad, mmm'kay! Telling a kid not to do something is generally the best way to ensure he does it. You need to demystify alcohol. Once your kid realizes that there's nothing special about drinking, they'll be less inclined to care when they have a sudden opportunity to drink. Allowing a child a small glass of wine or champagne every now and then isn't dangerous, it's a good idea. Even let them have a sip of your beer, it's not like they're going to like it. Once they're used to the idea of alcohol, it won't be some new adventure when they encounter it outside of your controlled situation.
- Abomonog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10In the age of D.A.R.E. more kids learn about drugs and alcohol from their teachers and loony cops than anywhere else. Because if this I teach my girls the truth before the propaganda officer shows up. I also tell them that they will have my full support if they publically call the officer on their lies. Since they already know the truth about drugs and alcohol I expect they will probably get in trouble the day the D.A.R.E. officers shows up.
Teach your kids the truth BEFORE D.A.R.E. shows up. Better they get in trouble for calling the officer out in class than overdosing years later because of that officers lies. - paker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11"cause why the hell not?"
The Pilgrims didn't know about cirrhosis of the liver. - froglars, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Because tasing them is so much less disturbing.

Just no naked runs in beer pong. - TheSexyGeek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I've never seen someone passed out in a puddle of their own vomit until I went to the US for college. The levels of drunkenness I saw was unbelievable. Where I'm from (the Caribbean), the drinking age is 18, but it's loosely enforced. On Family occaisions, it is common for parents to give thier kids a sip of wine, etc. Alcohol is just a part of life. Our culture enjoys drinking but looks down on drunken behaviour. Where I'm from, 16 year old kids know how many beers they can drink and still get by Mom and Dad without suspicion (ie. . .don't get drunk).
I've always wondered why American kids try to get as mashed as possible. I'm guessing that it's due to the fact that it's so forbidden that the kids go crazy when they get the opportunity to drink. Even if you stick to the laws of the land, by age 21, Caribbean kids have 2 years of experience and know their tolerance. At that age, American kids are just starting out. Which one would you rather put in a car? - carpespasm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7also called elementary school
- Treshnell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7They're really going for some sensationalism there. The study didn't even ask where the child encountered the alcohol. Most likely the only question was 'have you ever had any kind of alcohol.' I'm sure 90% of children have had alcohol by the time they hit 6th grade, at weddings, big celebrations, family dinners, etc. My grandpa let me try his beer because he knew I'd hate it (and I did). My parents let me have small portions of champagne at big celebrations.
Not at all surprising that elementary students have had alcohol before. - nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7moron.

Underage Sex Hits Grade School
The prime time to start sex ed is at the Kindergarten level according to study on underage sex. - MikeMacMan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Exactly.... drinking isn't as much fun when you are of the legal age to do it. It's a lot more fun when you have to sneak around and worry about getting caught.
- Twist05, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5In other words, Rap music.
- felman87, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Believe it or not, during the harvest feasts of the Pilgrims, the kids would get watered down alcoholic drinks cause why the hell not? I never thought I'd use that useless tid-bit of information.
- MasterChi, on 10/10/2007, -6/+11:O and in France they give there kids a glass of wine with dinner. It's quite alright people, the world will not end if little johnny has a taste of your margarita or a sip of the beer just as long as your responsible and you teach them to be responsible and not over do it (get drunk).
My mom used to always let me have a drink and I found out early that I hate the taste of beer and to this day I am now legal but refuse to drink it since I hate the taste. - carpespasm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Drug Abuse Resistance Education. It's what many kids in the US are given around 3rd to 5th grade to try to impart on them that drugs and drinking are badmkayyy. it does a decent job of explaining the affects of most major drug types (or did when i was a kid), but it's also got a very "drugs are very scary and only bad people use them" mentality that seems to backfire once people see that some drugs when not taken to excess aren't going to turn you into a stark raving loon.
- nihilite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If you watched any of the kids' TV shows these days, you'd know that they don't make any sense until after you've had a couple drinks. who can blame the kids for gettin their crunk on.
- Jumile, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I love the Fox-/redtop-style headline. "Hits" grade school? Yeah, because alcohol sooo wasn't available before now... I went to primary school in the late 70s/early 80s and I knew kids who were hammered back then. It's not news, people... it's "rediscovered" news (a cynic could say "politically-motivated").
Treshnell's right... it's the "forbidden fruit" factor that makes kids and young adults go stupid. I've seen an American exchange student swim (doing breaststroke) in a puddle of his own vomit - all because he's from a place where the legal age was 21 and was studying for 6 months in a place where he was suddenly of the legal drinking age. - csrster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Now that's truly disgusting. Especially if the wicket is a sticky dog.
- Shawn4168, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Natural Selection fails once again...
- CatalystGhost, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Probably managed to make him infertile, though. A fall from a decent height + concrete + your balls = they're probably not useful anymore :/
- CatalystGhost, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Little alcohol in moderation = good. Getting totally wasted every couple of nights = BAD.
- CatalystGhost, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You learned to drink in 4th grade? Jesus, did they feed you milk embedded with a sandwich, or something? How did you get all your fluids? That's pretty stunning, honestly...
- Treshnell, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4That just speaks of the mindset of the world today.
- noumuon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3i learned how to properly use a roach clip in dare. the clincher, however, is that i learned how to harvest opium from poppy plants as well. i remember those lessons to this day. :D
- MrLunar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Primary school.
- ThinkBox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Yes, but are we under-preparing our Children for "college level drinking?"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPWL0MgDFYM - gcnaddict, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I disagree. I was raised knowing how bad alcohol is by everyone, but that wasn't what stopped me from drinking it. What stopped me was seeing what drugs like alcohol did to people in my own family.
I'm still staying away from alcohol to this day. - kapsar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wait it hasn't been phased out, it's called Bud, Coors, or miller.
- Balk2K, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2yeah, and most generalisations are false
