- nikpappagiorgio, on 11/24/2008, -1/+148Whoever posted this must be the director of my reality show. Dugg to perpetuate the lie so I can stay on TV.
- inactive, on 11/25/2008, -0/+76Everyone knows that the Truman show syndrome is a redundant subroutine written into the Matrix; crazy people.
- inactive, on 11/25/2008, -0/+63I also believe I'm being filmed for a popular reality show. That's the reason why I frequently expose my genitals.
- tippmann1, on 11/24/2008, -1/+54I actually thought that I was on a television show like the truman show for like 2 days after I saw that movie. Granted I was like 10 at the time and was really paranoid about everything.
- Zoojeff, on 11/25/2008, -0/+48guabancex, pretty sure hes ok now. He looked pretty confidant when I checked Camera 17 in his bedroom 5 minutes ago
- Bauer22, on 11/25/2008, -1/+44Spoiler Alert!
The thing between Cindy and I never works out. - HyphySoul, on 11/25/2008, -0/+42I'm just gonna pretend I didn't read this so I don't get canceled
- guabancex, on 11/24/2008, -0/+33But you're all better now. Yes you are, aren't you?
- Johnnyhorse, on 11/24/2008, -1/+31A branch off of solipsism?
Or maybe we are just Tralfamadorian toys. - naturalpapa, on 11/24/2008, -1/+26You mean we really aren't on TV?
- Monotonousblob, on 11/24/2008, -0/+24And they live out these fantasies on Youtube with makeshift Jackass videos
- JuanBSU, on 11/25/2008, -0/+20You...you saw that...?
- inigomntoya, on 11/25/2008, -0/+19We were wondering about that...
It does get humorous when the editor guy doesn't get the black box up quick enough.
Keep it up! It makes for great TV! - georgemason01, on 11/25/2008, -0/+18Damn, you see right through our reverse psychology, don't you?
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -8/+25Most of our moves in public ARE being tracked and filmed at all times. Everything we do is monitored and we all seemingly consent to total surveillance:

So tell me, why is acting in this manner considered a psychiatric disorder? It seems like a natural adaption to the environment to me. - Skooma714, on 11/25/2008, -1/+18I went to London but I had the strangest feeling that I was being watched the whole time I was there....
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -0/+16Dugg for Vonnegut reference.
- GeeksSpeakFont, on 11/24/2008, -1/+17there are some reality TV stars that you definitely never want to feel like... ahem HOGANS
- drmobutu, on 11/25/2008, -0/+15They prefer to be called Facebook Users...
- ligyron, on 11/25/2008, -0/+15You don't fool me. I know you're all actors here whose sole purpose in life is to post comments in hopes that I will eventually read it
- PHJames88, on 11/25/2008, -0/+15You see what I did there.
- Skooma714, on 11/25/2008, -0/+13So it goes
- AzureRise, on 11/25/2008, -1/+14That's silly. TV producers aren't watching you. The government is.
- byukid, on 11/25/2008, -0/+13Dangit, I was waiting for the season finale you jerk.
- wrobson, on 11/24/2008, -2/+14whats next cable guy syndrome?

- oboshoe, on 11/25/2008, -1/+13Most profound line in the whole movie
"You accept the world you are given"
With a bong, that sentence can keep you going for days - MakiMaki, on 11/25/2008, -3/+14I see you're the editor of io9.com. You know very well I have submitted stories from your site in the past and gotten them to the frontpage so lets just get any claim of obvious bias-ness against io9.com out of the way.
First of all, the io9 story simply summarizes the AP story, it's a source hop/link jack with no redeeming value whatsoever. It's not original content. It links to PhysOrg, so I just put the link there
It's funny how I'm being dugg down for simply directing people to the source article instead of blogspam. I have nothing against io9.com. They have good original content. I read them. But I have no patience for blatant source hops on digg. It's nothing personal.
AP is a news agency and PhysOrg is probably a subscriber, hence they have a right to run the story. Linking to AP's website (which is primarily a showcase for their services) is no different from linking to PhysOrg. AP's business model is not to write content to host on their site, but offer content via paid subscription to be hosted on other sites.
In the sense that io9 referenced PhysOrg, I took their lead and placed a link to them. I see no wrong in that.
But if you insist. Here's the AP link acquired through a search:
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/T/TRUMAN_SYND ... - lovernotfighter, on 11/25/2008, -0/+11Schizophrenic people often think the government is spying on them. Maybe this is a milder (or more narcissistic) kind of problem.
- GrantMVP, on 11/24/2008, -3/+13In reality we are all on TV (security cameras) much more often than we would like. Like when you take that piss in the parking garage when "no one is looking".
- xyllar, on 11/25/2008, -0/+10I wouldn't mind, so long as they hire some good writers.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -0/+10"Stevieeeeeeee time to leaveeeeeeeeee!"
- omnithought, on 11/25/2008, -1/+11This is doubleplus ungood
- choppergirl, on 11/25/2008, -0/+9Try to buy anything anywhere without getting filmed by a security camera and you will see how impossible it is.
- inactive, on 11/25/2008, -0/+9Add me to the list, I remember looking up at the lightbulbs in the ceiling when I'd go to the bathroom in my old house.
- eir574, on 11/25/2008, -0/+8I was reading that psychiatrists in Israel from time to time have patients who believe they are characters from the bible. Typically, they come to Israel to visit locations of religious significance, and then somehow they slip into that mode of thought. Most do better after a relatively small amount of treatment, but leave feeling slightly embarrassed. There seems to be some disagreement on whether these people have always had earlier psychiatric episodes or if it's a totally spontaneous thing. I guess following up with patients to make sure this is a one time thing is tough once they leave the country.
I'm glad your sister is better. That must be really tough to deal with. My sister has had problems with obsessive compulsive disorder (in her case, a manifestation of unrelated stress), and one of the hardest things to do is to find the balance between not playing into her unrealistic fears and not alienating her by appearing to be callous. - kss42, on 11/25/2008, -1/+9I guess that explains why no one dugg you.
- Hoogs, on 11/25/2008, -0/+8When I was younger, I used to imagine my life was a TV show, before the movie even came out. For awhile, I even thought I was somehow supposed to "save the world" someday. I guess as a shy kid, I wanted to feel like I was important. A "delusions of grandeur" sort of thing. Over time, I slowly realized that I was no more important than anyone else. I guess people with this syndrome have something like this, except never outgrow it.
Even today, a very small part of me still wants to believe it. - MeatyMcBeef, on 11/25/2008, -0/+8I see what you did there.
- Yoshiler, on 11/25/2008, -0/+7I came on to post that, actually. It's true. This is only a trick. It is reverse psychology. The same way the Truman Show was. Isn't it funny how that movie came out right when I was thinking of that stuff? Funny is not a word for it. It's ***** scary. It's like they read my ***** mind and made it a little more... Fake. They even used my favorite actor at the time. ***** coincidence, eh?
The whole thing about a fictional setting is misleading horsefeathers. It's to ridicule it, so it seems too absurd to exist. But I know better. So I haven't done anything I wouldn't do if no one was watching for a long time. It's very difficult at times, but people judge you a lot when they see you on TV. I know this. How the ***** am I supposed to find someone if everyone can see me in my darkest hours? You'd think EVERYONE's ***** crazy if you could read their minds. And in a way, they ***** can.
So laugh, point your fingers. You all know who I am. Quite funny, isn't it? Just be glad it isn't you. - fant0m, on 11/25/2008, -0/+7Wow... same here. No lie.
- Krasnichuk, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6great movie.. that is all.
- Neworab, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6OMG I love your show!!
- Ranvier, on 11/25/2008, -1/+7Or! They're paranoid, and the manifestation of that paranoia is in line with what is current. In the past, those with this type of paranoia did not live in a time with reality TV, so it would be nearly impossible for their brain to construct such a thought. I wouldn't say this is a whole new disorder, and that pop-culture is to blame.
- eir574, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6I'm thinking that while what you say is true of many people, it's still possible that a small minority of people actually do have psychiatric problems.
- inactive, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6If you buy your illegal drugs in front of a security camera, you are doing it wrong.
- Zoojeff, on 11/25/2008, -1/+7Because:
1- because they don't put this on TV
2- If you didn't do something wrong, they probably dont give a ***** about your life - CapeKid, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6The audience is rooting for you to settle down with the kinda nerdy, yet cute in her own way chick over that self-obsessed Cindy anyway.
- JulyZerg, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5This is an actual condition. I know. My older sister experienced delusions that she was on reality TV several years ago.
Thankfully, she's doing better now. - S5S5S5, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5Oh yeah? How long before all reality is replaced by reality shows making reality unreal?
