The easiest way to a great sleep: masturbate - Hipple, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37No backlit screens before bed? This explains so much...
Guess I need to start cutting myself off. - 13B1303, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29yeah but hookers get expensive
- DeusNova, on 11/08/2007, -1/+23Pffft. Sleep is for the weak!
- R75700, on 11/13/2007, -3/+25Top two ways to sleep better
1) Turn into a cat
2) Turn into a baby - purplehaze420, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22loose consciousness? you lose, at writing.
- chownrus, on 11/13/2007, -0/+14"I slept like a baby" == woke every 3 hours screaming because you ***** yourself.
- Renton, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9How the hell does number 3 help?
- 13B1303, on 10/13/2007, -0/+7I never should have bought the Orange Box....
- whoaohh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7You're giving Ron Paul and his digg articles a bad rep. Stop.
- zointax, on 11/13/2007, -0/+7Drugs are bad, m'kay.
- ZephyrNinety, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Masturbation?
- hardwareguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7and give the robots the opportunity to start something.... never.
- ninja0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6depends on who you are. some methods work for some people, others don't.
- Hoogs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7That lucid dreaming stuff really intrigues me, I'll need to try that out sometime.
- madm0nk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6bah .. I'll sleep when I'm dead
- ninja0, on 11/13/2007, -3/+8I have that problem. i think i have a big problem. i think that throughout my day, a good 80% of the time there is a screen infront of me =S
weather its an mp3 palyer LCD, my computer LCD, or TV =S - CMaff24, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6All these sleep stories on digg these days...
Maybe we should all just turn off the computer and close our eyes every now and then. - hardwareguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5its not a joke.
I work nights and sometimes have to take early classes or go to early meetings.
Once i get home i drink a full cup of coffee, and take a nap for 30 - 60 mins.
I wake up feeling like i've slept for 8 hours - Yibbon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4But then they hog the bedsheets!
- thecoolestguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"Of course, some particularly talented sleepers can program themselves to wake up before the alarm clock goes off naturally. (The rest of us hate you.)"
I'm good at this. I often find myself waking up 1 minute to the alarm. - cruzlee, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3Incidentally, I do find myself clicking through digg articles late at night, because I lack just that little extra discipline that I need to go brush my teeth and stuff. Not because I'm not tired, or because it is too early, just because I'm too lazy to go to bed. That is mostly the reason why I'm sleep deprived. And I don't think I'm the only one...
- jonnyeuchre, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3
All the ***** cuddling ruins it - logga0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Stopped reading at "10. Reduce Screen Time Before Bed"
- thecoolestguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3This is the best one IMO:
5. Solve Problems in Your Sleep
Wrestling with a tough decision, stuck in a creative rut or having a hard time solving a complex problem? Studies show that a little shut-eye can help you tackle problems and make tough decisions. - abec19, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Using a computer before you sleep is definitely a bad idea, especially if you're using a LCD monitor; test it out for yourself.
- shitthisfook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+380 is quite generous, I doubt it's that high.
- roberto_deneero, on 11/13/2007, -5/+811. Bang the neighbor's 18 year old daughter, sneak back in the bathroom window, and get some shut eye before your wife rolls over to "spoon" for the night.
- Gnasche, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I used to try figuring out exactly what I was thinking about when I fell asleep. Consciousness would re-emerge and I'd take note of what was going through my head. Then I'd try to trace back the string of thoughts that led to that. On a good night I could make it 3 or 4 thoughts, even though I usually didn't find a logical link between them. I use this often now when I have trouble falling asleep. I just take a simple thought and start a stream of consciousness until I'm asleep. Start with something like 'a basketball' - Harlem Globetrotters - cartoons - tv - couch, etc. It's not that I'm thinking of the words, just the imagery. Works well for me. My consciousness has to kick-start it at first, but it slowly becomes independent. Maybe this is #4, but the reverse engineering of it on myself let me know exactly how I commonly lose consciousness.
- NGNR, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah...the downside with sleep is that you can not multitask while sleeping.
- Jones82, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yes, very theraputic
- jaytea90, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3What's the PSP for then?!
- sleeknerve, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The spoon thing is EXACTLY what i do in my chemistry class, i hold my pencil with my hand over my arm, and then when i drop it, i wake up, a great tip
- Hoogs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah, I became lucid once, but it freaked the heck outta me and I pinched myself to wake up.
- inactive, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2What is this "sleep" you speak of?
- ps3udov3ctor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2this is easy. If you're not tired then read a book, watch TV, play a game, until you get tired. Trying to sleep when you're not tired enough can cause so much anxiety about it, you won't fall asleep for a while anyway.
Yes, you may only get two or less hours sleep, but just do it. Then go to work, you'll feel sluggish most of the day, but you'll probably get a second wind sometime in the afternoon. Go home, you'll be really tired. Do your best to stay awake until a normal bed time, you'll be so tired you'll fell asleep fast. Repeat daily until you get into a regular sleep pattern. - arjie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I never get up to the alarm, unless it's important. So I was late to school every day, but when I need to catch an early train or when on a schedule that matters I'll be up between 5-10 minutes before the alarm. Funny.
- cruzlee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Obviously you fall into the first category. :p
- SomaSynth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I stopped reading at "Top 10". It would keep me up all night wondering what #11 would have been.
- masterm1nd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2They have number five backwards. The way the put it, has nothing to do with making you sleep better. You are suppose to avoid thinking about tough decisions and important issues before sleeping.
And number six is just retarded. You would have to be an idiot to set up multiple alarm clocks to avoid the "soul-shattering alarm buzzer" for a minute. - Jones82, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Babies don't sleep this well
- EspressoNinja, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I used to have a hard time sleeping and woke up feeling just awful. Then I noticed I was drinking coffee at 8 pm. I switched to decaf and sleep much better. I'm surprised that simple tips like "don't consume caffeine in the evening" aren't part of that list.
- cruzlee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Put pen and paper within reach and do it next day.
- bigapple666, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh, the coffee and a nap is Brilliant! Does anyone else see a problem with that one? And am I the only one who feels like complete ***** unless I sleep for a minimum of two hours?
- toecutter169, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Instead of the two-alarm system, just get an alarm that uses a 'gentle wake' type alarm that gradually increases the volume of the buzzer/radio/CD. I have one from Philips I'm very happy with, Sony and other companies make them as well. You can get expensive alarms that use a light to simulate the rising sun, but a desklamp and a plug-in timer could do the same thing I suppose.
- ryanspahn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I love http://Sleep.FM :)
- capiCrimm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2If you follow the visualization technique in #4 long enough, you will achieve #1 (lucid dreaming). I always found getting a good lucid dream a reward factor for falling asleep(and a reason to not get up and do something else).
- PhoebusApollo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Didn't list one of my favorite methods, to play relaxing nature music. Not only does low volume music help lucid dreaming (it acts as a in-dream trigger), but if you get in the habit of starting it on a regular basis your body uses it as a trigger to start sleeping.
- Trkstr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i can never remain lucid long enough.
I always wake up when i realise i'm lucid :( -
