- AeroZeppelin, on 07/19/2009, -1/+49I was expecting every major city in Utah to be the top-ten sober.
- insomniasystems, on 07/19/2009, -1/+38Based on "Treatment Centers".... Buried as inaccurate....
- snobrder218, on 07/19/2009, -1/+29Wow, I'm surprised that Madison and/or Milwaukee isn't on the top 10. *shrug* O well. *cracks open another beer*.
- cire84117, on 07/19/2009, -1/+27Why do you take two Mormons with you when you go fishing?
If you only take one, he will drink all your beer. - sutherbj, on 07/19/2009, -1/+25Obviously said writer has not been to Wisconsin.
- DarkLance, on 07/18/2009, -2/+2497.2% of Fayetteville, N.C. is sober?? There's no way that could be true, Fort Brag IS Fayetteville, aka Fayettenam. There is no such thing as a dry Army Base on US soil...
- method7670, on 07/19/2009, -0/+22who is surprised by Provo?
- Saiyanz, on 07/19/2009, -0/+21Holy ***** I didn't have to click through 20 pages!
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -0/+20quitting is for losers.
- chris1234, on 07/18/2009, -4/+23Drinking is fun. That's why we do it.
- Eurynom0s, on 07/19/2009, -0/+13I guess they weren't allowed to put an entire state on the list.
- radialturkey, on 07/18/2009, -3/+14ATX FTW
- ace429k, on 07/19/2009, -0/+11I can drink to that.
- joshuaer, on 07/19/2009, -1/+11I had to digg this one down after looking into the article sources.
Alcohol Consumption: Heavy drinkers (adult men having more than two drinks per day and adult women having more than one drink per day)
What the hell yup if you have a beer on your lunch break or after work and 1 more beer later that night you are a heavy drinker? WTF really when did 1 beer for woman and 2 beers for men become heavy drinky? What happened to 1 glass of wine a day for health well to bad if you are a woman and have 1 glass of wine a day you are a heavy drinker!.
Here is the source with more cities listed
http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/BRFSS-SMART/ListMMSAQuest ... - SACubeMonkey, on 07/19/2009, -0/+8My city is on the list and I'm proud to be part of the problem.
- ZenMojo, on 07/19/2009, -1/+9Texas. Doing its best to keep you clean and ***** you up in the same road trip.
- thelostviking22, on 07/19/2009, -0/+8hell yeah! 6th street! lake travis!
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -2/+9Odd, I would have thought that Washington DC was the place to get *****, given all the lobbying.
- ace429k, on 07/19/2009, -0/+7man....Michigan never gets to be on any cool lists.
- WiskyBadger, on 07/19/2009, -1/+7Shrugs..Oh well, we always have next year WI
- rowbot, on 07/19/2009, -1/+7Utah thingy wasn't a surprise.
- eMximeR, on 07/19/2009, -1/+7Provo (top of the sober list) is where BYU is located
Man, I hate BYU - protogenxl, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6Well apparently since they have a federal grant for drinking it disqualifies them because of an unfair advantage.
- ace429k, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6No body likes a quitter.
- natpatben, on 07/19/2009, -2/+7No New Orleans???
- dpknc84, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5I'm inclined to agree as I'm from there, this list doesn't make sense.
- srt4b, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5The people in Raleigh & Fayetteville are LYING
- dafragsta, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5Somehow I knew Austin would be high on this list. I've never met a more highly functioning group of alcoholic and drug using nerds in any concentration anywhere else in the world. I ***** love this town. Any day of the week is appropriate for a work happy hour here. However, it's also a really ***** ridiculously expensive place to drink, so you usually want to get a head start if you aren't driving. When I moved here from Oklahoma, $6 for a Maker's and Coke seemed astronomical. Now, that's a good deal.
Incidentally, it's also an extremely dangerous place to be driving at any time of the day if you're from out of town.
Protip: Tailgating, is paradoxically safer than not tailgating and people don't get too pissed about it because they all know the real truth. If you leave more than three feet between you and the car in front of you, someone will try to extend that to a full carlength in less than 5 seconds time. - hardtoconfuse, on 07/19/2009, -1/+6I'm a bit shocked myself. But no proof to disagree. (no pun intended)
- itsbob, on 07/19/2009, -3/+8WTF no New Orleans or Las Vegas?
- thelostviking22, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4i would say the same with austin, but even without the university, it's still a huge drink and smoke spot.
- CptCulpepper, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4Also having lived in Fayetteville I'm not in total belief of this study. However, they might not consider Fort Brag, Fayetteville.
- thadjudkins, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4The Provo-Orem trifecta was interesting if you clicked the related links at the bottom. On of the least drinking, least smoking but highest exercising cities out there.
- beloitpiper, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4People who are surprised about Milwaukee/Madison being left off the list, remember: Wisconsin has a different definition for "heavy drinking" than the rest of the country.
- JoeB4ever, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4except the ones about the economy
- Eurynom0s, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4I don't care if this is only about the USA, the entire country of Saudi Arabia still ought to be #1 on the sober list.
Also if two drinks a day makes you a heavy drinker then I guess I'm a raging alcoholic! - Elpants, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4Ah, Living in Idaho Falls.....sucks.
- beloitpiper, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4Minnesota? With your 3.2 water? ***** off.
Sincerely,
Wisconsin - Visual77, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4I think this is based on residents, not tourists.
- thelostviking22, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4being a texas resident, mcallen and austin don't surprise me. i've lived in both. but brownsville, being so close to mexico and south padre island (a huge spring break spot), did.
- eMximeR, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3Provo is the capital of Mormon Country
- aywwts4, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3If a 10% alcoholism rate is something to write home about, the average Wisconsin village has enough asses in barstools to accommodate half the town.
Our high school and middle school kids beat Reno any day of the week. - chosenone-, on 07/19/2009, -1/+4Grr, this should mention it's only American cities in the title!
- robmilmel, on 07/19/2009, -2/+5Salt Lake City is the island of liberalism (as it were) in the sea of Mormomania. The Mormons are only about 45% of the population here.
- mikesorrentino, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3I live in Cape Coral, Florida and I'm not sure how this is true because 99% of the population is retired
- stevgex, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3Having lived in Fayettenam for for 10 years, I'm totally not buying it
- wmuldoon, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3hope so. cause i do it everyday. just got back from lunch, its 11:15, had a beer that was brewed down the street.
Im bummed that Juneau, Ak wasn't up there. I think all we do is drink and come up with horrible/awesome/horrible ideas. for christ's sake Sarah Palin's official residence is here, thats enough of an excuse to drink. - wrestlingnrj, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3Lol @ Riverside and all the 9-ballers out there. Those who live in SoCal know exactly what I'm talking about.
- Xingularity, on 07/19/2009, -1/+4Second this. :)
