- keysersoze9, on 10/11/2007, -1/+65Great, now I'm fat in two ways.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26"some doctors now think"..
WTF. its been known ever since the dark ages of anatomy.
its known as visceral fat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visceral_fat
and no i haven't RTFA. - schlurp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28yes, but it's not their fault - it's because of their genes.
- grantmiller, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27Interesting but basically rehashes the fact that sedentary is bad, and an active lifestyle is good:
"They eat too many fatty, sugary foods — and exercise too little to work it off...The good news is that internal fat can be easily burned off through exercise or even by improving your diet. Even if you don't see it on your bathroom scale, caloric restriction and physical exercise have an aggressive effect on visceral fat...if you want to actually be healthy, then exercise has to be an important component of your lifestyle."
Here is a quick guide to correct form, so you don't hurt yourself trying to reduce your internal fat:

- leoedin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16lol@article:
"Normal-weight persons who are sedentary and unfit are at much higher risk for mortality than obese persons who are active and fit,"
I personally think everyone is at a similar risk of mortality - 100%! - 5150photo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13But "Your momma's insides are so fat..." just doesn't have that ring to it.
- SamuraiPanda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13I know alot of diggers out there are the type of person that eats Wendy's and donuts all day and doesn't gain an ounce, and so they think that they're safe from all the problems fat people have. But don't fall into that trap, because that sure as hell isn't true. I even have an anecdote to prove it.
For my Senior project in high school I was shadowing an Indian cardiologist that was in practice for 20+ years, the kind of guy straight from India, meaning skinny as hell and wearing under armor in May because its too cold for him. I'm sure everyone here knows how your arteries get clogged from that ***** you eat, and it was this doctor's job to remove that clogging from the arteries. One day, he comes up to me holding a vial about the size of my ring finger, halfway filled with a long white thing that resembled a thin noodle. He says to me, "This is the most fat I've ever taken out of an artery in my life. And I took it out of this much of his leg," his thumb and forefinger were only the length of a quarter. While I was taken aback by how small the length of artery was, he finished his story with one hell of a punchline, "The man I took this out of was thinner than me. He is the kind of guy that eats burgers with bacon and extra cheese every day but thinks he's OK just because he didn't get fat."
Keep in mind, this cardiologist was one of the skinniest men I had ever seen, and you'll understand why this was such an eye-opener for me. - dchoi22, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16This needs to go beyond digg... There are people who really think they can stay "healthy" by controlling what they're eating and NOT exercising at all.
- catalysis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12My mom always told me "don't listen to the other kids, they're just fat on the inside." I guess she was right.
- paulbjensen, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12yeah, tell us how to be healthier so that we don't end up on their operating tables in the first place!
It's like that political cliche, "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime" - chipset, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Some people are actually worrying about that: they are called emo.
- Aliarse, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12@schlurp (#6647370)
Nah dude, they're just big boned. - psyonide, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Why is it that people talk about America as if it is the only country in the world with overweight people?
- rieom, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I get so tired with news every other day of why people are fat. They have done it to death.
- remccain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Reminds me of a tee-shirt I saw once;
"There's a skinny woman inside me screaming to get out... Chocolate usually shuts the bitch up."
and I thought immediately of Ab fab - "Are you sure it's just one dear?" - DexDoomsday, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Fat=*****
Skinny=*****
We are *****
But what else is new - Toast1185, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Yeah, you're right. I went ahead and RTFA and there wasn't anything remotely new in there. Slow news day perhaps?
- hydratedsquash, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Experts have long known that fat, active people can be healthier than their skinny, inactive counterparts. "Normal-weight persons who are sedentary and unfit are at much higher risk for mortality than obese persons who are active and fit," said Dr. Steven Blair, an obesity expert at the University of South Carolina.
Ah yes of course, obese, active and fit. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5While soy happens to be a godsend for alot of people, some of us with thyroid problems have to avoid it like the plague. It's not the solve-all solution for everything.
- BESTenemy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5New research is based on an assumption that thin people might have fat wallets.
- jesterace, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It's true. I have several friends who are this way. They call themselves "anorexic fatasses"...
- DPimp1262, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I understand that fat anywhere can be bad for you but I found it interesting that the article states several times that they don't really have proof that this internal fat can actually lead to health problems but that it might is the same as pretty much stating what said in the south park ***** out your mouth episode where the doctor states "so I conclude that eating out your butt can actually be healthier for you, and I base that on absolutely nothing."
Common, it's common knowledge that eating fast foods and too many sweets is bad for you but do we have to have this fear mongering that there are small amounts of internal fat around your organs that are so small that they don't even affect your weight but somehow are enough to cause health issues?
Eat right when you can. Exercise when you can, and for god sakes enjoy life a little. You can't spend all your damn time worrying about how your going to die or your never have a chance to enjoy yourself. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4So much for "inner beauty".
- IEatHamburgers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4How about "Yo mamma's arteries so clogged..."
- chipwar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I'd rather be thin than famous, but I'm fat!
---Jack Kerouac - slapthemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3hmmm....... fat are thin inside, if they are exercising. Yes, makes sense. If one is active , doing exercises rather than starving to death and being inactive, one is healthy.
- helinism, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8Skinny pepl have heart attacks too! And I still hate the gym, well gym instructor... Actually no, I hate those inanely absurdly health freak types even more!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Another false research promoted by the pharmaceutical industry to scare and make money off thin people....
What a Scam !!!! - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I wish they would just STFU already.
Not a single one of you monkeys are getting out of it alive........ - tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Not all fat is bad for you. I RTFA and I'm very skeptical of this. Of course, I am not a dietician.
- mt066, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3This is the stuff those evening news teasers are made of: "Find out being average height and weight......can KILL YOU. Tonight at 10."
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@grantmiller (#6638919)
I hate how people judge me. I may look thin on the outside, but deep down, I'm a lardass. - VeraLynn, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5.... and this is exactly why I get annoyed when people tell me, "But you're so skinny, it must be great to be able to eat whatever you want and not gain an ounce!"
Sure, but does it do any good for my internal organs to eat as many fatty and sugary foods as I want and not gain an ounce? NO!!!!
[RANT] Please stop blaming thin people with fast metabolisms when EVERYONE should eat healthy because either way, it's not good for anyone even if it doesn't show on the outside! [/RANT] - existent, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Resentment is a poison you take hoping the other person dies.
- rune420, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3It could also be about what you eat, not just excercise. I remember reading a study saying that rats who were fed casein (milk protein) got a fatty liver and higher cancer risk, while rats on soy protein had a healthy liver and lower body fat.
- RiverBelow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yay! More things to worry about!
- loganhid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2if i ppl were fat inside then would it not show outside????????
- GeneralKickass, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Ha ha. Reminds me of Homer Simpson's "All my life I've been an obese man trapped inside a fat man's body".
- androothebear, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Now anorexics have another obstacle to conquer...
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm putting that on a T-shirt.
- BESTenemy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 As if half of sychology wasn't already based on: "You're even more sick than when you think you're not. But don't worry! There's a pill!" This is a scam that is based on real fact blown out of proportion. A bunch of people sits at a board meeting trying to figure out how to tax stupidity. "We all have organs... hmm... let's go from there". How do we turn that into a need for treatment or a pill? Bingo!"
- orbit1979, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It is unavoidable....it is your destiny....
- goodoldharris, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Tell me you're ***** kidding? You just forgot to add the "/sarcasm", right?
- Miraa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I wonder if they are flatulent on the inside then.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No, I'm dead serious.
For more information watch this documentary from the BBC:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcXQK8oNOeE - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is propaganda for the pro-fat agenda. The people pushing this story (the pro-fat diggers and the liberal media) want to create moral equivalence between fat people and thin people. They want to cloud our minds with relativism so that we lose all sense of moral values and conclude that it's okay to do whatever we want--to just "be ourselves." The true believers and fatties do this because they believe it will create a new world, but the media is doing it so that corporations can then instruct us as to how best we can fulfill our uniqueness: by buying products and allowing others to manage our lives (giving us more time for the "important things"). Leftists are the useful idiots of capitalism. The end result is a fat, compliant, consumerist population.
