- ipek, on 04/09/2008, -3/+137Had no idea the odds of dying from "Falling" are so high.
- pintomp3, on 04/09/2008, -3/+97it's not the falling, it's the stopping.
- inactive, on 04/09/2008, -4/+95So you have more of a chance of breaking the law to a degree that sees you sentenced to die, with all subsequent appeals denied, and being legally executed, than you do of being hit by lightning or fireworks, or dying in an earthquake or flood. Wow.
- Rotzooi, on 04/09/2008, -4/+80Lots of older people die from a simple fall. A fracture of the pelvis may hardly heal when you're 80+ and eventually be determined to be the main cause of death (while the direct cause will be blood poisoning, prolonged agony, etc). Hence, falling.
- rickygw, on 04/09/2008, -5/+75odds of dying are 100%. looks like my observation has been proven by this graphic...that despite all of our medical advances, modern medicine has not saved one person yet.

- drizzlelicious, on 04/09/2008, -2/+49Right before I die I'm going to ask somebody to kill me with fireworks discharge. Then I can say I died from the least common cause of death.
- pintomp3, on 04/09/2008, -2/+46buried for being dead.

- thelastcivilian, on 04/09/2008, -10/+36So then, fireworks can be considered safe? Excuse while I go get naked with some roman candles...
- catch22, on 04/09/2008, -1/+26What about death from being sucked into a black hole, the formation of which is caused by the Large Hadron Collider?
- oflaherty, on 04/09/2008, -5/+29I bet half of these are just made up
- D3koy, on 04/09/2008, -1/+24The odds of being hit by lightning while in a flood caused by an earthquake while playing with fireworks is staggering low
- stretch611, on 04/09/2008, -2/+25 egonSchiele, why did you digg up the zombie?
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -2/+24Which is why you should opt for Life Alert® brand services.

- Steyr47, on 04/09/2008, -5/+24http://digg.com/health/Your_Odds_of_Dying_Pic
One year ago. - FluffyWolf, on 04/09/2008, -1/+20People, learn how math works, it is not always hard.
First of all, the table says that it is 11 per 100000 for the average American, and 17.9 for men. But those numbers are per year. The average Joe/Jane lives for about 78 years, which means that the chance is 11*78= 878 per 100000 during a lifetime, or about 17.9*76=1360 per 100000 for males. Which give the odds 1 in 73 for men and 1 in 113 for "people". - unfinite, on 04/09/2008, -2/+21Motor vehicle accident 1 in 84
Motorcycle accident 1 in 1020
The odds of me dying on a motorcycle are much higher than 1 in 1020 because I ride a motorcycle; but the number doesn't take in account for that. On a personal level, these numbers would be very skewed. For example, I'm not going to die in a flood where I live. Also, a guy working in pyrotechnics has a much greater odd of dying in a fireworks discharge.
You have to take these statistics for what they are. Just kind of cool. - Exbzurq, on 04/09/2008, -0/+18This brings up the serious concern about the odds of dying from the zombie threat.
- laserblazer, on 04/09/2008, -6/+24In all fairness, they told us they were hardcore.
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -2/+20Not where I come from.
- stanleyford, on 04/09/2008, -3/+21Don't think you'll be saying much of anything, actually.
- postingbh, on 04/09/2008, -1/+18According to Rudy Giuliani, the odds of dying from terrorism are 9/11.
- izackcarson, on 04/09/2008, -11/+27Interesting how dying at the hands of the government is more probable than via flood, earthquake, or lightning.
- rspeed, on 04/09/2008, -2/+18It would be well off the end of the chart.
- Thugacation, on 04/09/2008, -2/+18Am I heartless for laughing every time that commercial comes on?
- kcirtap6075, on 04/09/2008, -0/+16i can't fly.. i dunno about you guys but i think i'm safe from that one
- inactive, on 04/09/2008, -5/+21I promise. I. WILL. NEVER. DIE.
- markh100, on 04/09/2008, -1/+16100 people drive a car for every person that drives a motorcycle. These are odds, that "you", the average person dies of said condition/behavior.
