- devbhatia, on 04/26/2009, -0/+43Haha, this is exactly what I was doing while reading this.
- RandomGorilla, on 04/26/2009, -0/+38Now how many of you immediately straitened your posture after reading the title?
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -0/+30At 1:37, he was a bit hesitant to admit he's a Digger. :(
- saxxymama, on 04/26/2009, -0/+25Who else immediately straightened out when they read this headline?
- TheBlueVulcan, on 04/26/2009, -0/+25So was my hand.
- aflaks, on 04/26/2009, -0/+24I was 12 when i discovered the internet. My posture was ruined by 13
- DavidTurnbull, on 04/26/2009, -0/+17Dammit. At least doing this made it easier to transition to a face palm.
- VeniceCA, on 04/26/2009, -0/+16One of the best things I ever did was raise my monitor a few inches, it forced me to look up instead of down, and a lot less neck fatigue as a result.
- greatcaffeine, on 04/26/2009, -1/+16I remember one day I looked around in my computer programming class, surveyed the room, and said out loud "You know, everyone in this room has really bad posture."
It's a nerd thing. - ligyron, on 04/26/2009, -0/+14Did he say he's working the Digg homepage all day? Is Micheal a power user?
- Richandler, on 04/26/2009, -0/+13I've been meaning to raise my desk about 4-inch for a year. I just did it after watching this video for some reason. So much more comfortable.
- springster, on 04/26/2009, -0/+12Dugg for side boob.
- dyl8n, on 04/26/2009, -1/+10Dugg because I read "the internet is killing you back" and got mildly scared
- blackopsfreak06, on 04/26/2009, -0/+9LOL. I was leaning forward, resting my chin in one hand when I read the headline. Dugg for extreme relevancy.
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -0/+7I need a setup like the guy in the movie "grandmas boy", my back hates me
- hiPpymIck, on 04/26/2009, -0/+7im using a cheap exercise ball - sitting on air is suprizingly comfortable
also its easy to roll back and forth - helps stop you being so glued to the screen - IamNomad, on 04/26/2009, -0/+7your forearms however doubled in size.
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -0/+7Well if they didn't make computer desks for midgets, i wouldn't have to slouch over and rest my face on my hand to see the damn screen.
- diggdong, on 04/26/2009, -0/+6My chair leans back - problem solved. Next topic carpal tunnel of the wrist.
- Shawno1, on 04/26/2009, -0/+6Ah man, i have bad posture. :(
- linagee, on 04/26/2009, -1/+7I'll sue the entire internet for back pain.
- zzzpoohzzz, on 04/26/2009, -0/+5as i'm actually lying down on my side with my laptop beside me...
its almost 4 am... gimme a break! - glendower, on 04/26/2009, -1/+6just blood clots
- NereidMeriel, on 04/26/2009, -0/+4hah, same here! Go team 'lying-on-our-sides'
- diggnidy, on 04/26/2009, -0/+4thank you, i do this all the time
- brentcee23, on 04/26/2009, -0/+4What ever you do, make sure you have a good posture! For the last 2 years my back has been ruined because of how I use to slump at computer. I now wear a BRO to help me sit up straight, also for some reason I haven't had a date in 2 years. hmmm bad 2 years :(
- Meocross, on 04/26/2009, -0/+4By 12 is when i really started using the internet way too often. by 15 i noticed my back felt less flexible.. by 16 i began to subconsciously walk while slumping, and this terribly straight kotatsu recline chair is not helping
- skippy562, on 04/26/2009, -0/+4yeah same here.
- BaconOclock, on 04/26/2009, -1/+4Yes but you will have more eye fatigue.
- grantmoore3d, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3What to do with old useless textbooks you bought and never read? Raise your monitor!!
- mitrovarr, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3I wonder which is better, a desktop or a laptop? On one hand, desktops have much larger monitors and those allow much less stringent head positioning, and you get a better keyboard you can freely reposition. On the other hand, you can lie down with a laptop, move it around, etc.
Still, I think the laptop is far more likely to put you in the hunched over position. I'm leaning back comfortably right now on my desktop, but I couldn't do that if I was using most laptops - the small monitor and attached keyboard make it difficult. I can only do it on the desktop because the chair is low, the desk is high, and the monitor is a decent size (24") so you can read it from a fair distance away. - JFitzpatrick, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3damn! beat to the joke!
- lolmax, on 04/26/2009, -1/+4Good posture is definitely important and encouraged. Visiting a chiropractor is not!!
Maybe slightly off topic...I've visited many chiropractors in my day from a gymnastics injury and wish I had known better back then....most doctors who call themselves chiropractors and have their own office are complete frauds that do nothing more than give you those ***** "adjustments" and keep you coming back week after week without really solving your problems in the least.
I finally saw a REAL back doctor at a specialized spine care clinic. He didnt do a single one of those typical "adjustments", and helped me more than I could have imagined through careful range of motion movements, exercises and instruction on correct posture during everyday life.
Watch the penn and teller's ***** episode on chiropractors...its an eye opener. - inactive, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3this is why i switched away from using a laptop screen full time.
- WildBil, on 04/26/2009, -1/+4Personally I'm against all this sex on the Internet and TV.
It's killing my Back. - tomg025, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3Would you ask Tom Petty that question?
- rabidmonk, on 04/26/2009, -0/+2Can anyone else crick their spine by sitting down and twisting?
It feels sooo good yet is probably sooo bad for you. - blipblopblip, on 04/26/2009, -0/+2How many others just sat up straight when they saw this?
- BobCFC, on 04/26/2009, -0/+2I think I might get one of those big bouncy balls to sit on.
- freebot, on 04/26/2009, -0/+2I had that problem, but then bought a ergonomic seat and problem solved. I use the Swooper, which not only forces good posture, but also exercises the back and abs.muscles. The price is a bit steep, but the results are well worth it.
- AngelaQ, on 04/26/2009, -0/+2I recline in bed with a pile of pillows behind me and one under my knees, looking at the monitor which is on the bedtable next to me.
- JFitzpatrick, on 04/26/2009, -0/+2I don't understand the "raise the monitor" advice. I find low monitors way more comfortable.
I mean... isn't it easier to sit with good posture and relax your eyes, looking down... than it is to force your eyes and neck up to look higher than normal?
Maybe I'm missing something. Anyone remember the desks that were popular in the mid 90s where you put the monitor inside the desk so you looked down on it like an old school arcade game? Those were so damn comfortable. - Mozmonkey, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1Perfect timing. I injured my back a month and a half ago and have been trying to figure how what I can do to my posture to make it feel better.
- Frisbinator, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1No, Chiropractors give you excellent adjustments leading to instantaneous relief. Unfortunately, they are short-lived, leading to dependency on the Chiropractor and an eventual laxity of the supporting structures. While there are some good Chiropractors out there today, their origin and history is full of fraudulent unscientific claims. While this particular Chiropractor gave some excellent advice on posture, he also spent a significant amount of time "advertising" himself. Physical Therapy origins are legitimate and I've never heard of them claiming to cure Diabetes or Cancer in their history. I personally would trust those movement experts any day of the week over a Chiropractor.
- kcp12304, on 04/26/2009, -0/+1I just tried to sit upright and my entire upper body just cracked
- maroger, on 04/26/2009, -0/+1They work well. I also use an antique stool used in old factories. It's a round oak top with no back. It sits loosely on a pinnacle- so it moves constantly when you sit on it but only so much. I've never had a backache from sitting on it. When factories and factory furniture were designed to increase productivity by increasing worker comfort, such things were common.

- Myztry, on 04/26/2009, -0/+1What's wrong with you people? Get a decent reclining office chair, and put those feet up on the desk.
I suspect it's giving me thrombosis in the legs due to pressure points, but my neck is absolutely fine. - stuffradio, on 04/26/2009, -0/+1same
