- skinneej, on 10/10/2007, -3/+31should read: this is about yoga.
- silverchrysalis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20lots of sex!
- swatward, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19Condensed version: Do yoga.
- DonutGuy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Walking and breathing daily is no secret.
- holygram, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Why isn't using my computer on the list?
- MODAT, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12its not a secret. Get your fatass up and stop eating like *****.
- DonutGuy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Learn to cook some fresh food, it's much tastier and actually satisfies hunger (and costs alot less too)
- JrGhoull, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9i am an american and if i'm not eating fast food, i'll be eating microwave dinners. i also travel alot, and i find that every time i go to a foreign country like china or india, i come back and discover that i've lost at least a few pounds. pisses me off to know that a simple change to just regular, just as tasty food, can make u loose weight. i really wish all those major food companies would make their stuff out of better quality products. they wont...but i wish they would
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10my routine:
1. don't eat ***** food
2. drink only water, tea, milk
3. walk to class every day
4. work out 3x weekly, 5 minute warm up, 40 min workout session.
It really works. - Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Excuse me but you are naive. Stop playing the 'genetics' card with health. Except for a few rare cases, almost everyone can at least not have a gut and be decently strong. Those few exceptions are the genetically obese and some pro bodybuilders, who simply have a disposition to build lots of muscle mass.
- JavertHolmes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I lose weight when traveling within my own country as well. I think it's the whole "not sitting on my ass 8 hours a day at a desk" thing that does it more than the food.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5masturbation doesn't count.
- TehG3rman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Secrets huh? Sounds like this guy does a lot of lying around and breathing.
- mattrobuck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5forgot to mention eating, that makes you healthy...
- DonutGuy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6But where does beer fit in?
- MattB123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Traveling by bike works well too. :P
- mal1964, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Why was this a secret?
- sardion2000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It isn't but you'd be amazed by how many just don't believe it'll work because they've been conditioned by the media's pop a pill culture.
- GT35R, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Im really surprised the article says nothing about a proper diet.
- dolemite5005, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Where does slamming 12 beers after work come into play?
- HamsterOfDeath, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This is a pretty awful article and the vast majority of people would experience significantly more benefit in significantly less time by using a real resistance training routine as opposed to the "deep breathing" BS routine in the article. The "use your body as resistance" is total BS, the foundation of strength building is progressive overload in both load and repetitions, which means you need to be adding weight or you will not see real results. Articles like this are the reason people avoid the real work they need to do to get in good physical condition.
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'd rather download hacks for it =/
JrGhoull, buy your own ingredients and make your own food. Make sure that if you buy, say, chicken, then on the ingredients it only says "CHICKEN" and not some random fancy chemicals like "sodium benzoate." - DonutGuy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sure anyone can keep their weight down with enough effort. I think infantrydude's point is, that effort isn't the same for everyone. Know what a somatotype is?
- plaing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2'gym guy' - clarifying your comments since 2000 ce
- coustoe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2People don't realize that weight training is the most beneficial exercise regime for these reasons:
1. it helps burn fat more efficiently
2. keeps your shape more defined
3. takes a fraction of the time aerobic exercise does
4. does not wear down your body
5. makes your body release growth hormones that repair damage to your body done to it throughout the day.
6. Its a easier lifestyle choice to make as it can be done anywhere practically (body weight resistance) most advanced bodybuilders will only workout 2 times a week for 20-30 mins (how easy is that?)
I guess its the years of Aerobic indoctrination you get when your growing up, Aerobic exercise is actually quite harmful to the body and will wear you body out (joints) faster, lead to immune deficiencies, cause a higher rate of free radical production leading to faster aging. - ellecon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Weight training gives you a nice shape and makes you strong, Yoga keeps you flexible and reduces stress, and Aerobic exercise pumps the heart and gives you energy. I've injured myself doing sports/dance(and other types of aerobic exercise) but I have so much fun I always go back to it. I'm also the person who goes on all the rides at the exhibition and is the first one up for bungee jumping/skydiving/hang gliding/etc. Life is a temporary condition so might as well make the most of it.
- blackoper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2some form of activities should be worked in there. It is a lot easier to stay healthy if you can do things like mountain bike, mountain climb, kayak, etc. I spend time in the gym but I'd rather be out doing something to stay fit instead.
- andycr512, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Exactly. I took a 4 week trip and by the end I had lost a huge amount of weight. It was probably the combination of excersize (walking around constantly - travel by car does that to you), less eating (no snacks in between meals, though I kept my main food groups of caffeine, grease, sugar and salt), and lugging around a 20 pound bag everywhere I went (well, OK, I took only the 8 pound laptop some places, but it was ALWAYS one or the other...)
Got back home, resumed my previous diet, back to my normal weight... Sigh. - whatthejish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yoga much?
- ArmandoM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Soy juice?
- ellecon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Depends what you do,who you are and what kind of beer you are drinking. A 250lb drywaller in his 20's working 10 hour shifts and drinking American beer will fare better than a 125lb receptionist in her 40's downing Guinness.
- RobotBuddha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Like commenting on digg?
- coustoe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think what youre trying to say is that body building is a better alternative timewise if you want to look good for the rest of your life, then wasting hours and hours doing aerobic exercise.
- QuintinTheBot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I do 1,2 and 4, eh good enough.
- realclark, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2awesome article.....there really is no secret to being in great shape.....its all in your head, if you want to get a great body you can get it
- sardion2000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Losing weight is easy. Just eat lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. If you're excercisizing make sure you GET YOUR CARBS! If you get the right amount you'll notice that your excersize routines become much easier. A good way to make sure you have enough fuel is to carry low salt, low fat prezels with you. Sports Drinks help as well but they have toons of sugar in em...
A good way to stay full and not stuff almost all day is to go on a 5 meal a day diet. Here is a sample from my diet that I'm on to gain weight(muscle mass mostly).
Thurday: This day is an Aerobic day(I Rollarblade or do the Cycle at the gym)
Breakfast 7ish in the mourning EST
Small Bowl of Cereal with Skim Milk
Two pieces of Whole Weat Texas Toast with salted butter.
Small Glass of Orange Juice
Brunch
Four pieces of Texas Toast
Chocolate Milk
Lunch
Tuna Salad Samwidge Half Can
Glass of Skim Milk
Afternoon Snack
Chocolate Bar
5 Hour Energy Drink
Dinner
Double Burger with Ketchup
Skimmed Chocolate Milk
Supper
Small Plate of Pasta
1 Beer or 1 Glass of Red Wine
Please note that this is meant to fuel my body for 30+ KM blade sessions at a decent pace. Portion yourself to eat only until you are full and eat every 3 hours 5 times a day to make sure you're never stuffed and never starved. Keep active and you will achieve your ideal body weight and maybe even more. - LopsidedZebra, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5*Generic comment on how exercise articles are irrelevant on Digg.*
- coustoe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hate these Generic Articles, been done to death no new information here.
Is this site trying to get traffic or something? - eightyd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1how many times do people really need to see this? I mean honestly, we are all computer/game nerds, and we've all seen this before
- andycr512, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Crap, I can eat all that stuff? Nice. Is 30 minutes of walking a day enough exercise?
- wassim2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sounds good except for the milk. You should switch to soy milk.
- silverchrysalis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1or you could just settle down with one person, like my husband and i, and keep it interesting, passionate, and often!
- Infantrydude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Nice feel good article but luck and good genetics has more to do with health. Of course a serious crack habit can overcome the best genes.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0S P O R T will heal us all
Amen brothers and sisters - salinemist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Ok, eat veggies, fruit, and get lots of lean protein. Drink alcohol and coffee in moderation.
- grazie, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Dude who the hell has time for all that crap. Better things to do.
- xxFelixDCatxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Exactly, yoga has it's place in the initial stages of a workout, but honestly it's much better to convert your mass into something that literally eats fat.
- xxFelixDCatxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0This is okay if you're looking to burn fat, or lose weight quick, but the only way to make something like this stick is to
A) do it for the rest of your life (who can honestly say they have the will power for that)
or
B) build muscle, muscle building of any kind increases your body's metabolism, when combined with fewer calories you'll watch the waistline trim.
Yoga doesn't offer enough resistance workout to build muscle mass, it does burn plenty of energy though. - OpCzar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1What the hell is the point of yoga?
- Tweekster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0The thing that really gets me about these "body resistance" programs is they dont even use your damn body, how about dips, chins ups, pull ups, or pushups.
Body weight programs are not bad, but if they dont incorporate variations of those 4 things they are useless -
