- leighlee, on 07/23/2008, -3/+24Creeping like a communist, it's knocking at our doors
Turning all our children into hooligans and whores
Voraciously devouring the way things are today
Savagely deflowering the good ol' U.S.A.
It's Reefer Madness! Reefer Madness! - lucy22, on 07/23/2008, -3/+23This is terrible. Pain is so awful, I can't imagine the stress of being arrested.
- Trickybunny, on 07/24/2008, -1/+20Being drunk can bring out the worst in people - from crashing cars to hitting children alcohol has a way of destroying families/lives. Conversely, being high at worst makes people benign or indifferent and more often, makes people happy and giggly.
Im a professional web developer and I get high every few weeks. But I can honestly say I see nothing but good from it; I feel more balanced personally and I actually work better (in the after glow mind you; I can't program worth a damn when im actually in the state of high haha)
So maybe stoned people can be annoying and a mass populace of stoners probably isn't the best for our economy - okay, fine; agreed. But lets be real here - marijuana doesnt cause even a fraction of the damage to life or property that drunks (alcohol) cause. So why is alcohol is 50-states-legal and weed gets you thrown in jail?
I know this argument is pretty well worn territory but it doesn't make it any less true... - genezorz, on 07/24/2008, -1/+20A naturally occurring plant that improves fuel economy, clothing, emissions, paper and it's cousin that allows for pain reduction, nausea reduction, inspiration and safe self exploration with no addictive side effects?
If only it were less dangerous than alcohol, tobacco or any over the counter or prescription drug...
Wait...what? - natthew, on 07/24/2008, -1/+19I really want to know what is so goddamn awful about smoking pot.
- bpm2000, on 07/23/2008, -2/+18Fight the good fight Hiatt - Seattle (some of us) got your back!
- Slashered, on 07/24/2008, -1/+16People shouldn't be raided for smoking marijuana recreationally, let alone for medical purposes
- d4ktu, on 07/24/2008, -1/+15It's a damn shame that this man is a criminal on a federal level and a patient on a state level. What a country.
- angeladtao, on 07/24/2008, -2/+16He is truly one of our American heroes. It takes a special kind of bravery to face down the "establishment" day after day, year after year when you know that they will do you in if they can. I just don't understand this marijuana phobia. I'll bet those cops stopped by the local bar and threw back a couple'a brewskis while they congratulated each other on a job well done! Hypocrites!!!
- Tyrghast, on 07/24/2008, -1/+14The continued federal abuse of marijuana users is disgusting. We proclaim the wonders of civilization and go ***** up other countries in the name of democracy and freedom, yet all but the upper middle class and above live in fear of their government. After the Patriot Act and the recent executive order that allows anti-Bush people to be arrested, it is easy to see how we're living under a tyrannical government. The usurper King George the 3rd of the U.S. is giving us ample reason to revolt.
- alapoet, on 07/24/2008, -3/+15One of the many great things about Doug Hiatt is that if you're broke (as are many patients, due to medical bills and inability to work), he'll represent you for free.
Those who are interested in seeing/hearing Doug speak can watch the last 5 minutes or so of the YouTube video embedded in this blog post. His energy and passion are contagious!:
http://realitycatcher-alapoet.blogspot.com/2008/05 ... - Halsfield, on 07/24/2008, -1/+10did you read the article? the people that take opiate pain killers need marijuana to help with the nausea, same with AIDS and chemo patients for nausea. it also helps them cut their opiate doses in half or eliminate them altogether.
- FLarsen, on 07/24/2008, -0/+8There's so much hypocrisy, it's sad.
First they arrest you for alleviating pain with marijuana, then they want you to start using an opiate. - natthew, on 07/24/2008, -1/+9Why are extremely addictive and potentially deadly opiates okay? As bad of an idea as being stoned all of the time may be, it's better than getting addicted to Oxy.
- wunksta, on 07/24/2008, -1/+9How about the federal government keeping out of state affairs?
- natthew, on 07/24/2008, -0/+8No one said that marijuana is the only thing that helps. Sometimes, taking pills isn't an option if you're throwing up all the time. Sometimes, people really don't want to stab themselves with needles or get doctors to do it for them. If someone's dying and smoking pot will make them feel better, what's wrong with that? Opiates are more euphoric than marijuana, yet no one say that a terminal cancer patient on a morphine drip is just getting high.
- hugolp, on 07/24/2008, -1/+8Why take an adictive opiate derivate that is not even half efective as marijuana? It doesnt make sense, unless you are the company that sell the inefective pills, and you have a lot of money to lobby.
- DiggRage, on 07/24/2008, -2/+9Yeah, because addictive prescription narcotics are so much better.
- Halsfield, on 07/24/2008, -1/+7yea its not like these people stubbed their toes, they have cancer and aids.damn criminal masterminds how dare they alleviate their mind blowing pain and nausea with something that doesnt kill people whereas people are allowed to drink and smoke which kills hundreds of thousands a year.
- Lynx55, on 07/24/2008, -1/+7HUH?? I don't know what your pain comes from, but I take methadone and Vicodin for pain ( methadone works better than Oxycontin and is stronger) and I still have pain every single day of my life. MJ does more than relieve pain...it gives relaxation which a person in pain never gets. Now...I am a 53 yr woman...would you like to tell me who is going to sell to me on the street?? HA ! I am disabled and homebound, just how would you like me to get it? Plus trading pot for meds is one helluva lot more of federal rap than getting busted for MJ! We need it legalized for people like me. Please THINK ...not everyone is like you. Try putting yourself in others shoes before you say things like this.
- notoneofus, on 07/24/2008, -1/+7These people do have prescriptions for legal painkillers...in their states. The federal government just disagrees that marijuana is a legal painkiller.
- PeppermintPig, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6For me, an aspirin often works over a drug intended to be a painkiller. For others, marijuana works. It's not harming anybody, so why not let these people be?
***** arrogance to tell others how to live their lives, what they can or cannot put in their bodies. - Lynx55, on 07/24/2008, -1/+7I'm one of those "people in pain" ( PIPS ??? ) :). But I live in WI...last year medical mairjuana got a thunbs down in our state congress. My pain mgt doctor says she would order it for me IF it were legal. Does me a helluva lotta good. My state rep will not even answer my emails anyore! It's the only thing that I ever found that gives that level of pain relief. But more, it gives relaxation that we in pain never get. I take methadone for pain, and Vicodin for breakthru pain and still I remain in some level of pain each day. But does MY measly opinion matter? Nooooo...but some moron in a business suit who has never experienced real pain can make the decision which affects my life and lives of other PIPS. Great plan....NOT.In other words, don't even get me started....
- alapoet, on 07/24/2008, -1/+6For more background information on the Martin Martinez case, in which a legal medical marijuana patient was raided, his wall knocked down, and his legal medicine stolen:
http://realitycatcher-alapoet.blogspot.com/2008/07 ... - hugolp, on 07/24/2008, -2/+7Guess you want to ban alcohol because people abuse it and get drunk.
- vinceislegend, on 07/24/2008, -1/+6Aw *****. I can't believe you've done this.
- grneye53, on 07/24/2008, -1/+6I tell you this that WEED is a lot better then the 13yrs of morphine they had me on for my medical problems and Feb. 13/2008 I had to stop the morphine they(they=V.A.hosp)♠ said because of the weed,So cold turkey it was while bring up 11yr old daughter (since she was 3)and I thank GOD for the weed because weed never did what morphine does when you quit.
- C0MF0RTABLYnumb, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5If people today in America actually knew the difference between hemp and marijuana things would be a lot better for the economy and the environment.
- scoottie, on 07/24/2008, -1/+5once again ....
As much as i support medical marijuana the answer to "How does the mere smell of (legal) pot make it "appropriate" to raid a medical marijuana patient, knock his wall down and unlawfully seize his medicine?" is that technically its still not legal since federal law overrides this state law.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supremacy_Clause
http://www.lectlaw.com/def2/s105.htm
now to the point of medical marijuana:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzales_v._Raich
even tho you might see...... "On December 16, 2003, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals granted a preliminary injunction to prevent the federal government from interfering with Raich and Monson. In their ruling, they declared: "We find that the appellants have demonstrated a strong likelihood of success on their claim that, as applied to them, the Controlled Substances Act is an unconstitutional exercise of Congress' Commerce Clause authority..." .... be aware that Gonzales v Raich was rules on in 2005 and in turn is what makes federal supremacy take effect.
The only thing that gives hope to medical marijuana is "In 2007, the Ninth Circuit decided against Angel Raich, when she renewed her litigation on substantive due process grounds. Judge Harry Pregerson, the author of the opinion, noted that only a minority of states legalized medical marijuana and it is not a recognized "fundamental right" under the due process clause. However, Pregerson also wrote that she could use medical necessity individually if she ever gets arrested for using medical marijuana."
Here is an interesting read:
http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.ht ... - starmanfalls, on 07/24/2008, -1/+5It is much cheaper to buy in larger quantities. It is pricey anyway, but the more you purchase the better the deal.
- alapoet, on 07/24/2008, -1/+5@jerrycurley:
You enjoy laughing at people in pain? Would you rather we be zombied out and befuddled on heavy narcotic opiates?
And you scorn us for preferring to be able to engage with life and talk with our families?
You, sir, are a colossal jerk. ***** even. - alapoet, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4Yes, I'm aware of the Latin legal term pro bono.
As a layman, I prefer the English "for free." Means the same thing. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. - PeppermintPig, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3That's government for ya.
- sk11, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Well you see....
* runs away very quickly *
Joking aside, it's very useful to criminalise a large percentage of the population. - nicktheawesome, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Thinking!? We don't do that here.
- Halsfield, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3jerry curley, the only idiot is you buddy, they were talking about people that were already using legal pain pills, and the marijuana was for nausea from the pain pills, read the article again like i told the guy that i responded to originally.
also, i never said or implied marijuana was the only thing that helped. it should be an allowed option for people undergoing chemo and people on multiple pain scripts if they need it. you apparently didnt read my post or the article and you should go back and read both again, or maybe it will be for the first time.
they have isolated the chemical in marijuana that helps and made it into a pill called marinol that you can get a script for, but it has many of its own problems. - Halsfield, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2did i say ban it? no i said it would get banned because of people that abuse it to get high instead of people like in the article that use it for medical purposes. open your mind.
- mattlohkamp, on 07/24/2008, -2/+4you mean that's big corporations - government policy is just a consequence of who's got the money.
- kults, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Opiates form addiction, you can't see why this is more profitable?

- sk11, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1In Britain, it's estimated that over a million violent incidents a year are fuelled by alcohol and that a further larger number go unreported (e.g. domestic violence). Doctors are all too quick to point out the many health problems related to alcohol. It is not unknown for people to die in their forties due to alcoholism.
I think there would be improvement if we weaned alcohol users onto cannabis instead, which does not carry the above mentioned problems. - angeladtao, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1You are unbelievable. Unless you have a pain disorder or an injury yourself, you don't know what living with pain is. Living with agonizing pain day in and day out is not the same as "a part of human existence". You show a complete lack of empathy which seems to be a thread that runs through all these arguments here against marijuana. It's easy to stand back with holier than thou attitude when it isn't you or yours that needs it. But when it's your turn to suffer, then the story changes. We are put on this earth to learn to love our fellow man and to learn to be of service to each other. Empathy is the first step toward this wisdom. I pray for you that a crack of daylight enters into your mind to enable you to start to empathize with others more. It is the beginning of the journey home. It is also the easy way.
I had to do things the hard way. I had to experience addiction/recovery, years of a pain disorder with no drugs at all that worked, and the loss of almost everything that was dear to me before I began to be able to put myself in my neighbor's shoes. Now, I can easily find compassion for those who still suffer, and I see how we are all connected on this whole earth. What is good for your neighbor will ultimately be good for you. That's how it works. Try looking at life like that for a while. Try helping someone else for a while. See if your satisfaction with life doesn't get better and the vituperation in your tone doesn't settle down a bit. Peace to your soul. - Echota, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1When the government decides how they can make a profit from it it will become legal!
It's all about the money folks! - WallyAnti, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I hope you are joking. They already sell opiates out of shops in California. These shops? Yeah, they're called drug stores.
- ejpusa, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1VERY SIMPLE:
If you give into marijuana, it means the hippies won. That's it in a nutshell. It's a very deep Freudian thing at the subconscious level of our conservative leaders. It gets down to control. - FLarsen, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Look up physical and psychological dependence
- tomarocco, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1No offense lady, but it sounds to me like you have a real drug problem. No matter what your unnamed disability is, we all live in pain one way or the other. It is part of human existence. Addiction is one of the most incredibly painful experiences a human being can endure, and it does nothing but exacerbate existing pain, both mental and physical.
