- MrGaw, on 01/28/2009, -4/+130How many teens do you think actually fill out those surveys honestly?
Maybe this just shows rampant teenage dishonesty. - jarjarwang, on 01/28/2009, -1/+100It wasn't really that difficult for me to avoid promiscuity as a teen.
- ThatGeek, on 01/28/2009, -3/+69an epidemic of oral sex? why was a i not notified?
- zahirsai, on 01/28/2009, -2/+56Zero times three is still zero.
=( - thelastcivilian, on 01/28/2009, -5/+59The only way to get realistic data on this subject would be to secretly follow teenagers and spy on their bedroom behaviour, documenting it on video (for purposes of data verification).
The results of my study are thus far incomplete... More testing to be done. - inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+53Although that could work both ways. Sexually active teens may lie and say that they aren't, and non-sexually-active teens may lie and say that they are.
- michaelrsa, on 01/28/2009, -0/+41You're on Digg, that's a given.
- magamiako, on 01/28/2009, -3/+35Unfortunately, you have to look at the amount of people (particularly women) who don't count the following as "sex".
A. Oral Sex
B. Anal Sex
C. Guys they have a one-night stand with.
D. Hand Jobs - Thundercat1971, on 01/28/2009, -2/+31It all evens out in the end. When the woman gets married she won't do A, B, or D anyways.
- blackguard, on 01/28/2009, -11/+36MrGaw is right. I've known at least 10 teenage girls get pregnant in the past couple of years. And that's just unplanned pregnancies. It's uncommon to be a virgin as a junior now days.
- thelastcivilian, on 01/28/2009, -1/+23School ended at 3:00 pm for me. Parents worked 9 to 5.
- newfrickinshow, on 01/28/2009, -0/+21So you're saying that they lie today that's fine. Are you also saying teenagers didn't lie back in 1991? I would guess that the same percentage of lying versus honesty that went on back then compared today is probably about the same.
- MattB123, on 01/28/2009, -4/+25It looks like the increased pregnancy rates can be traced to policies like "abstinence only" education which is widely known to be ineffective. Maybe making contraception more available and realistic education policies can turn this around. The kids will be doing it to some extent regardless so why not empower them to be less risky if they choose to have sex?
- andarnold, on 01/28/2009, -6/+27Not many teens will actually admit to having sex, let alone getting pregnant or having an abortion.
I know I wouldn't. It's not a question of dishonesty, its a question of asking someone something personal, that really doesn't need to be know by others. - ulmedas, on 01/28/2009, -1/+22Your evidence is anecdotal at best. Your comment is in fact exactly the sort of thing they are discussing in the article. This idea of getting a gut feel for a large demographic based on one or two examples is absolutely ridiculous.
Also, they point out in the article that pregnancies have increased for the first time in a decade, but that sexual promiscuity has decreased. - inactive, on 01/28/2009, -1/+22I'm a virgin junior.
; - ; - buddyw, on 01/28/2009, -1/+20FT: I didn't laugh at your comment, but I did laugh when I saw that you were aptly named failtrain.
Also, hang in there Blanken. It's not a big deal, so don't make it into one. It will happen. - inactive, on 01/28/2009, -6/+25"today’s teenagers are more conservative about sex than previous generations"

- antime1, on 01/28/2009, -0/+16Ahaha awww what a tender moment between diggers. Dugg!
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -1/+15that's if your asking a girl.. if you ask a guy you divide by 3
- ringo380, on 01/28/2009, -0/+14It doesn't take a whole lot of space to have sex. Unless parents are on their asses 24/7 with zero privacy, which I think is less healthy than sex experimentation and may end up making your kids explode the second they break free, then they will find a way at some point. Closets, cars... cabinets?
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -2/+15yeah blah.. people always think everyone else is doing it more than them..
- thelastcivilian, on 01/28/2009, -0/+13X10 to the rescue!
I always knew those pop-ups served a real purpose. - AtomicTheory, on 01/28/2009, -1/+13All I know is when I'm trying to find a horny teeny to grind, they're nowhere to be found... and this is coming from someone who hangs out in high school parking lots!
...so I can totally agree with this article - endyminion, on 01/28/2009, -0/+12It's relevant when you have to deal with a breakout of genital herpes amongst the student population.
- FordSVT1, on 01/28/2009, -1/+13People have been ***** before marriage for all time. All the time. ***** ***** *****. Unless you come from some kind of religious cult community, the kids are going to *****. Always have, always will.
I've got no idea why some people think there was a time when everyone "waited". Never happened. - msimeth, on 01/28/2009, -5/+16FTA
"Teenagers with more parental supervision, who come from two-parent households and who are doing well in school are more likely to delay sex until their late teens or beyond."
Yes, far far beyond. - Hetman, on 01/28/2009, -0/+11Really? There is always going to be a home where parents are gone. I mean it could be because they are a single parent and they work or even two parents who are both working. That is not to mention the fact that if you have a car you can pretty much go anywhere and have sex if you really wanted to.
- Taiyoryu, on 01/28/2009, -2/+13Seems more like the same percentage of teens are still having sex as they were 10-15 years ago, but such exploits are more publicized in the media and discussed more openly amongst their peers. So you're getting a rise in the buzz and somehow that translates to an "epidemic". Parents, your teenage children are no more likely to have sex or fool around than you were, you're just more likely to hear about it.
- dienaked, on 01/28/2009, -1/+12If this is true, then judging by the conversations I hear teens having where I work, they must also be the biggest liars on the planet.
- 3tcp, on 01/28/2009, -1/+12With the all the information and pornography on the internet teenagers don't have to experience sex themselves to learn about it. Middle schoolers today probably know more about sex than high schoolers did 20 years ago.
- hitkaiser, on 01/28/2009, -0/+10Many diggers are teenagers themselves.
- calcm, on 01/28/2009, -0/+10I _wanted_ to have sex very much in high school. But I was way too much of a conservative freaky geek to get laid. I was way to up tight and my self-esteem was at rock bottom. I couldn't ask out a girl if my life depended on it. I was a self-imposed outsider who dreamed of getting laid. But my lack of self-confidence never allowed it to happen. Good thing I am much more easy going now.
- IphtashuFitz, on 01/28/2009, -1/+10No kidding. Over the summer there was a big stink over 17 girls at Gloucester High School here in Massachusetts who were all pregnant, all 16 years old or younger. It got lots of press at the time:

I have a son and a daughter. I'm not really concerned about it. Now something tells me that you're probably going to try to make a comment about how horrible of a parent I am, blah blah blah.
@toekneebullard
Raise them right, and by the time they're 15, they'll be mature enough to handle most of it. Raise them wrong you'll end up with a 40 year old kid eventually. I think most parents are somewhere in between. - Akairenn, on 01/28/2009, -0/+9Indoctrination.
It's the same reason why people think the Middle Ages were glorious and full of chivalry, instead of the reality of utter ***** hell for 90% of the population. The same reason people think our founding fathers were all about Christianity and Pope-love. The same reason people think Saddam Hussein had anything to do with 9/11.
Repeat ***** long enough, and the public will start believing it. - magamiako, on 01/28/2009, -1/+10Other way around.
- skipdog172, on 01/28/2009, -0/+9I disagree with your assessment that teens lie on surveys and don't admit they have sex.
I'm not sure why so many people believe your comment. When you do an anonymous survey, you don't fake answers. They didn't interview teens for these statistics....there is no reason for any teen to lie on these anonymous surveys and I can't imagine why any of them would. - ulmedas, on 01/28/2009, -0/+9Did you do the survey yourself? Did you administer the virginity tests to all of the women?
Ugh...I really dislike made up statistics based on you gut feeling about the situation. - Hetman, on 01/28/2009, -1/+10I will agree with people that it is hard to tell if these kids are lying or not. However It is still good that from the 50s until now there has been a decline in teen pregnancies. Even if that has spiked a little recently.
- mogebier, on 01/28/2009, -2/+10They might not be having intercourse, but the girls give out Blow Jobs at the drop of a hat instead.
- Kolbeck10, on 01/28/2009, -0/+8No
- EricAnderton, on 01/28/2009, -2/+10I see what you did there.
- richmomz, on 01/28/2009, -1/+9You must have been home-schooled.
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -1/+9chill dude. I didn't lose it till i was 22. Just make sure you train yourself to not blow your load in less then 3 minutes and know where the damn ***** is and you will be fine once the moment of truth arrive.
- UselessTrivia, on 01/28/2009, -0/+8Did this kid study at the Wilt Chamberlain School of Sexual Math?
- rockgoddess99x, on 01/28/2009, -1/+8Yeah because those "promiscuous" girls don't have male partners helping them out or anything. They're sure as hell not having sex with themselves.
Buried. - Hetman, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7Well they should but in a lot of places they still do not or even more ridicilous is that in some places you have to be 18 to get it.
