- SpeckledJim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It depends how long the blood is cut off for. TFA is very thin on details, but "modulated constriction" suggests it's designed to let some blood through - presumably enough to keep the limb alive without the casualty bleeding out.
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So what is the safe way of removing a tourniquet?
- timetrap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah it will work like that, but you should never take a tourniquet off of someone . . . it has something to do with the iron in your blood, you will basically posion the person.
- timetrap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Call the doctor.
- andyperfect, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"preventing loss of limb"? I didn't know using tourniquets could prevent losing an arm or leg while at the same time cutting off blood flow.
- Astaro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not the Iron, its sodium build-up.
In normal circulation its fine, but it tends to accumulate in a limb thats had a tourniquet on.
When you take the tourniquet off it stuff up the electrical signals that controll your heart, and can cause a heart attack
