- BeShirtHappy, on 10/30/2008, -0/+16I've heard a lot of good stuff about pomegranates lately. I'll have to start eating more!
- adamtundak, on 10/31/2008, -0/+14if only it didn't take me at least 24 hours to take them apart and eat them
- Blinker1315, on 10/30/2008, -0/+11Also, like carrots, great for lowering cholesterol.
- inactive, on 10/30/2008, -1/+11pomegranate beer is great. fort collins brewing makes a great one
- sbcea, on 10/30/2008, -1/+11Interesting. I never knew that bit about Vitamin C.
- inactive, on 10/30/2008, -1/+7I can vouch for pomegranate beer -- Michelob makes one too. It's not very strong, but it's refreshing in the summer. I've been seeing the pomegranate fruit showing up in grocery stores a lot more often, it must finally be catching on in the U.S.
- bananasluggy, on 10/30/2008, -0/+5... .... .... *sniff*.... I'm allergic. :~(
- pantload, on 10/31/2008, -1/+6Courtesy of Martha Stewart:
Cut pomegranate in half. Hold one of the halves over a bowl, cut side down, in the palm of your hand. Gently squeeze and rotate fruit, keeping cut side down, facing bowl, and arils will start falling into bowl. Still holding fruit in same position, beat it with a wooden spoon or similar instrument (I just hold steak knife carefully by the blade and hit the fruit with the handle), rotating it, still with cut side facing bowl. Repeat squeezing and hitting while rotating fruit, and shortly most of the contents of the fruit will be in the bowl, a mix of arils and juice. Pick out whatever white pith falls in bowl and then do the other half of the fruit in the same manner. This is the fastest and best way to prepare pomegranate. - Azuroth, on 10/31/2008, -0/+4And a bowl of water. Score the fruit into sections and let it soak for a few minutes. Then break the sections apart and let it soak for a few more. Then the seeds will just fall out without much prompting.
- TJ11240, on 10/31/2008, -0/+4I'm kind of disappointed to learn that grenadine comes from such an awesome fruit. I can't stand that stuff.
- RudeTurnip, on 10/31/2008, -1/+5*facepalm*
- inactive, on 10/30/2008, -0/+3Love pomegranate juice, especially in a martini. Does that take away the health benefits? Actually do love them, great to throw in a salad.
- Bizarrkley, on 10/30/2008, -0/+3Ahhh *****! I've been missing out on all my vitamin C by drinking that POM crap. Scurrrrrvy here I come!
- cquinnd, on 10/31/2008, -0/+3My sympathies...
- dafragsta, on 10/31/2008, -0/+3Where can I find one of these... Pornegranates?
- burkish127, on 10/31/2008, -0/+3It also sound like the best way to slice your hand open.
- nobody98, on 10/31/2008, -1/+3Fruit is good for you? Who'd have thought!
- oda1, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2Yesterday I tried eating them with plain yogurt, it was pretty good.
- da233, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2If only you knew how to use a knife.
- WiLdRiCe, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2just avoid the over sweetened, watered down juice
- soopertoll, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2I had marshmallows.
- RudeTurnip, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2Wow, I wonder if she learned that in prison?
- soopertoll, on 10/31/2008, -1/+3Pom nom nom.
- retzed, on 10/31/2008, -1/+3I like turtles!
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1Why isn't someone concentrating it in a pill, patenting it, and making huge amounts of money off it? Because if there was any legitimacy to that they would.
- apophenic, on 10/31/2008, -1/+2I don't know why you're facepalming, RudeTurnip, algaeturd is absolutely right.
- mahadiga, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1Statistics show that drinking pomegranates juice every day will prevent cancer disease.
- vilago, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1pomegranate flavored alcoholic drinks are nasty
- JCEEZ, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1I love pomegranates. Nothing makes me blast out a fat log(s) like pomegranates. AND they are super tasty (pomegranates not my poo)
taking huge turds ftw - digigeek, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1Pomegranates are messy. Slurp.
- drunkenoaf, on 10/31/2008, -2/+3Ah, antioxidants. I'm sick of these "medical" claims that are based on very dodgy science, appearing on Digg's front page every day. This sh*t has everything to do with people wanting a quick fix for their unhealthy lifestyles, and nothing to do with actual medical benefit.
Pomegranates are healthy, in that you're eating fruit, not chocolate. You will feel healthier in mind and body if you swap out the candy for the fruit.
BUT!
Pomegranates are not going to magically cure you of anything, nor will they stop you from getting cancer or any of the wild claims made by people that sell antioxidant-containing pomegranate juice etc.

*sigh*. People, please educate yourself about badscience, just so you know what you're going to get for your money. - pantload, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I'm sure they have pomegranates in prison. Sheesh.
I think I remember she said she had an Iranian housekeeper who showed her this. - livenoob, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1mmmmmmm shirley temples!!@!$
- counterplex, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1I haven't tried soaking it in water - I'll try that today.
An additional tip: the seeds are heavier than water while the white "husk" is lighter than water. Try "shelling" the pomegranate over a bowl of water and let the seeds fall into the bowl. At the end you can just use a sieve or large spoon to skim all the small pieces of husk off the top of the water and filter out the water to get fresh clean seeds. - itsontheway, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1Article refuting the claim that pomegranates are healthy and are, in fact, unhealthy out next week!
- RealmDown, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1Turtle wax on; turtle wax off.
- Ogopogo, on 11/01/2008, -0/+1.. no, no, you've got to get a jug of mangosteen juice, or is it acia berry juice, or goji berry juice, or whatever exotic plant fluid is being promoted this month.
- lauraT1987, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1Hate the stupid things! Enjoyment is outweighed by effort required to eat them!
- joshuajargon, on 10/31/2008, -1/+2But surely you were glad for the quick lesson in etymology, talk about cocktail talk eh, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
- inajeep, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1Got two in the fridge right now. I love 'em but they are messy and a pain to eat.
- freeridstylee, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1Also take a look at who has funded all the pom research....
- inactive, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1They're a pain to eat. A seedless variety would be awesome.
- Kyora, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1I don't care how difficult they are to eat; pomegranates are ***** delicious.
- wigginz, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1drink the juice yo.
- jayrok, on 11/01/2008, -0/+1That's right. And the people probably most in need of these health benefits will be sure to purchase pomegranates on their next Kraft Dinner, Mr. Noodles and Pizza Pockets shopping trip.
- thespiff, on 11/02/2008, -0/+1I'm amused that somebody dugg down my breakfast.
- brettgian, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1The way which you are showing for health benefits is not possible for all. I think you should go thorough with these some tips also: http://healthbeautyproduct.blogspot.com/
- counterplex, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1These fruits are also of course in the greater middle east e.g. syria for figs, saudi arabia for dates, etc.
