- inactive, on 12/27/2007, -8/+41It's not just STD's that is a threat.. more stupid people are born every day and in a decade or two they may end up everyone's problem.
- shredomatic, on 12/27/2007, -1/+28Nobody here at Digg cares, you can't get a STD from your hand.
- soil, on 12/27/2007, -1/+22Actually, STDs are spread by sex. See, they're sexually transmitted...
- repins, on 12/27/2007, -1/+18But, it is not America's responsibility to save the world...
- Grjemo, on 12/27/2007, -12/+29***** THE RIAA!
- spamfiltertest, on 12/27/2007, -3/+19"America could easily fund the contraceptive needs of the entire world, and the economic/financial hit would barely be a scratch on our fat ($) asses."
The problem is this - even in 3rd world countries where contraception is introduced, the usage is still low. This is due to poor education on how to use contraception... While it may seem like sex ed 101 to the US, it's not necessarily the same to other countries.
A proper Sex Ed campaign is needed as well. - stutimandal, on 12/27/2007, -0/+14If you think for a moment, the cause of STD is not condom-shortage but sex. Absence of condom only acts as a catalyst.
- mechanisma22, on 12/27/2007, -0/+12Or they could use the best defense against STD's and getting pregnant, be anti-social nerds. It's worked for me for years!
- Mockylock, on 12/27/2007, -0/+12Humans are sexually transmitted.
- didgital, on 12/27/2007, -1/+11When I was in Peru, I learned that the government was going to start a more progressive approach with condoms. Then the Catholic church threatened to eliminate funding for maintenance of the many cathedrals in the country. And so condom program was killed.
- RandoTheKing, on 12/27/2007, -1/+101 million a day? Doubt it.
- Godlike, on 12/27/2007, -0/+8Many of them also do not even understand how disease works, let alone modern preventative measures.
- brianez21, on 12/27/2007, -1/+9Just make sure to use a condom when you do that, you don't want to catch anything...
- Shippwreck87, on 12/27/2007, -0/+7Oh man, I better stock up on condoms for next time! ...bwahahahahaahahahahahahha...hahahaha....haha...ha.. oh I made myself feel bad :(
- Scrappy1850, on 12/27/2007, -1/+8i still jerk off with a condom to be safe
- satx, on 12/27/2007, -5/+12How do you say "wrap it before you tap it" in Swahili?
- akatherder, on 12/27/2007, -1/+8Those frickin cavemen had it easy. They never had to worry about condoms and global warming. Just mammoth attacks.
- Shawn4168, on 12/27/2007, -0/+71997 called, they want their...eh, forget it.
- CookieCutter, on 12/27/2007, -1/+7a million? *****!
- shcforward, on 12/27/2007, -3/+9Hakuna Matata?
- mannymix03, on 12/27/2007, -1/+7It may not be politically correct, but most of these AIDS cases are in Africa. These Africans are uneducated about sex, STDs and contraceptives and just have sex regularly. They are the problem.
- macgecko, on 12/27/2007, -0/+5I think he is glossing over another huge factor in third-world countries and that is ignorance. Many men still refuse to use a condom even if it's given to them free and they know it will help stop STD's. Why well there are the normal list:
It's not manly, it does not feel good, I can't get an STD because my local witch doctor gave me a some folk medicine and oh so many others. . . - tkocf821, on 12/27/2007, -2/+7More than 365 million people are infected with AIDs each year? Well i guess we only got 20-30 years as a planet so i guess global warming becomes irrelevant.
Somehow i think that number is exaggerated. - ProteinRage, on 12/27/2007, -1/+6How is it possible that "more than 1 million people are infected every day?" That number exceeds the combined birthrate of the world. That being said, 100% of the worlds population should be infected already. Another ***** statistic produced by the media as a scare tactic.
Condoms are important. But 1,000,000 people aren't infected every day. - inactive, on 12/27/2007, -0/+5http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2171/2141150889_8dd ...
- thesonofdarwin, on 12/27/2007, -0/+5Although I agree, condoms can't solve this problem and may only exacerbate it. Smart people will wear condoms - not the right time for kids, don't want STDs from an untested partner, etc. - while stupid people just don't care. In effect, they act as a way to devolve (de-evolve?) our species. Increase procreation of the stupid, limit procreation of the smart. I fully support the use of condoms, but I'm always a little cautious about the longterm effects on our society by the current usage patterns. If we started teaching condom use to the youth at all public education institutions, made them more readily accessible (at the school's nurses office, for example), and stopped governmental rewarding of unwanted pregnancies the problem could start to be rectified.
- atmenterprises, on 12/27/2007, -1/+6I don't know why people just can't stop having sex. Maybe Diggers should be employed to help these people understand abstinence programs. After all, it's Diggers that know best.
- dannyapplesauce, on 12/27/2007, -2/+6America should try to fix itself up first. we are in bad shape heading into the future, and stds have nothing to do with it. our government is a ***** pile.
- cawfee, on 12/27/2007, -11/+15Me father sells rubbers to Walmart,
Me mum pokes the holes with a pin,
Me sister performs the abortions,
Me God, how the money rolls in!
Rolls in, rolls in, me God how the money rolls in!!
Rolls in, rolls in, me God how the money rolls in!!
/dodge - Shawn4168, on 12/27/2007, -0/+4Logic? Here on Digg? What the hell?
- shredomatic, on 12/27/2007, -1/+5You can use them twice if you turn them inside out.
- AdamFromMyspace, on 12/27/2007, -2/+6At this rate, in 16.4 years every human in the world will have STDs!
- woohhaa, on 12/27/2007, -0/+4Click click click click click tap pooop click.
- abooth413, on 12/27/2007, -1/+5In this case.. it isn't the media.. it is the original poster.
The article linked does not say anything about 1 million people are infected every day.
1 million people are subjected to hyperbole on the internet every day! That one might be an under-estimate. - whorunbartertwn, on 12/27/2007, -0/+3A BS made up statistic if I ever heard one. Kinda like when the UN said "oops" and revised the number of people in India with AIDS from 5.7 million to 2.5 million.... I mean come on stats like this are pulling numbers out of their uh air.
- SocialPoison, on 12/27/2007, -7/+10Didn't get laid much in college, did you?
- AllYourBase3, on 12/27/2007, -4/+7Maybe people should quit having sex?
- thefirelane, on 12/27/2007, -4/+7"Humans ARE meants to be monogamous beings, and the existence of STDs is proof of that."
Ummm... what? Seriously, just think about what you said for one second.
"Humans are solitary animals, Polio/Lice/The Flu is proof of that" - inactive, on 12/27/2007, -1/+4No matter what the "ignorant christians" think, abstinence works 100% of the time. NO one ever got pregnant or caught an STD when practicing abstinence. Only problem is that people are too weak to go that route. It's a matter of self control. The older you get, the more control you should have.
- sgtawol, on 12/27/2007, -5/+8May end up?
Overweight people increase health care, stupid drivers increase car insurance, etc... This may make me Capt Obvious but they already ARE everyone's problem. Personal responsibility is dead. - superkendall, on 12/27/2007, -0/+2The current Iraq government is a secular one. Al Quida was trying to impose sharia, but when you tell Iraqi's they cannot smoke or drink, it appears they get riled up and kick your ass.
- ilves7, on 12/27/2007, -0/+2better than jamie lynn
- KingCook, on 12/27/2007, -0/+2All I could think off was damn a milion a day that's a lot of f*cking thats like 11 people getting STD's every second?
- toxicshok, on 12/27/2007, -1/+3so its our problem now? We help, they complain. We don't help, they complain.
- inactive, on 12/27/2007, -1/+3Excellent. I now have the perfect excuse for hittin' it raw.
- tomis, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1First we need decent Sex Ed in America. The real hinderance to this are those Christian "Abstinence Only" fools who only confuse the message and take money away from real education on the subject.
- ProteinRage, on 12/27/2007, -0/+1I have seen a Trojan Condom ad very similar to this. With a black background and white text that also uses this ***** statistic.
- eatbeefjerky, on 12/27/2007, -2/+3When the only people who bother to go over and "help' these people are missionaries who tell them condoms are bad... can you REALLY blame them?
- kenvsryu, on 12/27/2007, -1/+2The Pope does not care about people.
