- vroom101, on 07/23/2008, -2/+54Is anyone developing a 100% effective male birth control pill? If so, who? If not, why?
- ironeus, on 08/01/2008, -0/+45I can't believe they used to be called: 'slash and yanks'! I don't think they'd have gained popularity under that name.
- Jhiaxuz, on 07/24/2008, -3/+45Being gay. I hear it's a pretty effective.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -2/+41Yay sterilization!!
I am going to start an adoption agency that will purchase unwanted babies, but part of the deal is mandatory sterilization (for the parents/sellers, not the baby). I'll offer free vasectomies, and tubal ligation, procedures to anyone who wants them. Perhaps a $100.00 Walmart gift certificate for every referral. Good times. - dood, on 07/24/2008, -0/+38My vasectomy was mostly painless. At one point I felt some pressure, and they gave me a little bit more numbing agent (I forget what it was, litocaine maybe?) and continued on. During the recovery, I had some dull aches, but nothing I would call "pain". The prescribed pain medication for post-op was a double dose of ibuprofen.
The main thing I remember from the procedure was the smell when they cauterized the vas. It was like burning hair mixed with a little bleach.
The dood recommends it to anyone that is sure they don't want (any more) children. - badfrog, on 07/24/2008, -2/+32What's so dumb about it?
- gavinhudson, on 07/24/2008, -1/+31I don't know. This take is all shock and awe, but it doesn't seem like a bad idea. Usually, men force women to get their tubes tied when men don't want children. That's a serious surgery. With men, this surgery is simple and it's something you could do in the doctor's office in 15 minutes. Plus, unless you have the tubes cauterized, it's sometimes a reversible procedure if you change your mind later.
- f4nt0m4s, on 07/24/2008, -4/+32Forget the snip.
I just pull out, ejaculate in her eye, and then kick her in the knee. - benroy, on 07/24/2008, -2/+30My natural male birth control is my own personality.
No sex=no children. - ashfish, on 07/24/2008, -10/+35This just seems like a bad idea all around. If you're worried about getting her pregnant ***** be responsible and wrap it up. It -is- possible to give up your parental rights if you don't want the kid. Its just mind boggling that these kids would want to limit their future relationships like this. I mean, I don't want to get pregnant either but you don't see me running off to get my tubes tied! I've consistently been on birth control for the past 7 years, but if there's ever a question my boyfriend and I use a condom. Jesus guys suck it up a little bit, I can tell you condoms aren't much fun from the other side either but you do what you have to. And really, the other issue here is STD's. Fine and dandy you aren't going to get her pregnant but when you're pissing fire from your crusty dick do not go crying to everyone then.
- Brandnaem, on 07/24/2008, -1/+23Do vasectomies keep you from getting the clap? Remember when your dipping your ladle in the syphilis crockpot that condoms aren't just to stop pregnancy.
- Cybrwolf, on 07/24/2008, -0/+21Hell yeah, baby! I got snipped, over a year ago, and I love not having to worry!
STDs aren't a problem cause I'm with my GF of over two years. Plus, let me tell you, she LOVES not having to deal with birth control pills, or other methods.
Kids?? Screw it! I never wanted them, and still don't! Too many damn humans on the planet, as is! - inactive, on 07/24/2008, -13/+34there's no male birth control pills because it's the woman's responsibility to prevent unwanted pregnancy. for christ sake he's already giving up one to two teaspoons of his own fluid after busily thrusting for seconds and minutes on end to please a woman. he's done enough. Have a little courtesy and do your part ladies.
- etherreal, on 07/24/2008, -2/+21I dont see why all you guys are such pussies about vasectomies. They are practically painless. They are cheap. They only take a few minutes. The upside is, sex is much improved, and no surprises. If you are concerned about "being a man", then definitely get one. Being a real man means taking fate into your own hands and claiming responsibility for your breeding. If you are such a pussy that you can handle a pair of scissors on your junk, then all you have to do is take the Valium that they prescribe you before the procedure, and everything is happy as daisies.
I had mine over a year ago, I watched them do it. I was a little sore for a couple days, but nothing to complain about. I went to a LAN party the next day, no issue. Once I healed up, my wife "rewarded" me for not making her go through a painful surgery that would have had her laid up for a week. Taking this one "for the team" was definitely worth it. Breeding illegitimate children or making your woman go through the much more painful surgery is not "being a man". - DeathJux, on 07/24/2008, -1/+18Please stop adding to Digg's ruination.
- sbader, on 07/23/2008, -1/+18I've heard of a couple of companies who are or have tried to, sorry i can't remember who they are at the moment, and all of them seem to get stuck at testing for normal reasons or for lack of testers.
- kevisazombie, on 07/24/2008, -0/+16Why not Just freeze a bunch of sperm before getting this done. Then if you ever really wanna have kids you got some waiting.
- Cybrwolf, on 07/24/2008, -3/+19Epic fail? Why? Not every man, or woman wants kids. On top of that, spontaneous sex, without having to think: "oh, did I bring a condom," or "Crap, I forgot my pill," is fantastic!
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -3/+19Here's something that irritates me: guys thinking that every girl they sleep with is deliberately trying to get pregnant. Maybe you shouldn't be having sex with women you suspect of trying to "oops" you!
- antonio97b, on 07/24/2008, -2/+17no, that's the problem. It SHOULD be a privilege but unfortunatly, it's a right.
- redxii, on 07/24/2008, -0/+14Males don't give birth.
- scamper22, on 07/24/2008, -0/+14yes they are trying.. Mainly it involves doses of testorerone/pogesterone
I think they haven't had success yet, because its a lot more complicated to stop 1 billion sperm than to stop 1 egg. those sperm are sneaky basturds I would think. But this is just my guess. I think its also got to do with the fact that so much emphasis was put on women's right to birth control, society forgot about men... but we're being thought of now. I think it should be out in like 5-10 years.
To those who say, it's the girl's responsibility... yea... tell that to the judge when ur forking over 1/2 your paycheque. You'd be an idiot of a guy not to take a male birth control pill. Why not protect yourself instead of leaving it up to the women. Heck even if my girl was on the pill, I'd still use the male pill incase she forgot or got devious on me :P Protect yourself.
Yes, it won't stop STDs. Neither does the female pill. But they do prevent one thing you don't want happening. Assuming its a simple pill with no side effects... why wouldn't you take one. - Cybrwolf, on 07/24/2008, -0/+14Hopefully, you are mature enough to have that conversation before getting married!
- badfrog, on 07/24/2008, -0/+13I don't think the issue the guys have is about parental rights... It's the $$$...
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+14Spoke to my urologist about this. He reassured me that my vasectomy was going to be permanent, and no matter what I was going to be 100% sterile for the rest of my life, and that if my wife got pregnant I should get a paternity test. His vasectomies were not reversible natural or otherwise.
- kplo, on 04/01/2009, -4/+17eee ouch!
- antonio97b, on 07/24/2008, -2/+14A condom is only 95% effective. Seems like a lot, but thats 5 in 100 times you have sex. Quite a big precentage. Men don't have a say in if the woman decides to keep it or not. Even if they wrap it up the court will still make you pay.
- antonio97b, on 07/24/2008, -1/+13Who said you have to have kids when you get married? a social standard that needs to be stopped. You should only have kids if you want them. Not just "whoops, I'm pregnant but we're married now so I'll keep it I guess."
- TheLoneWolf071, on 07/24/2008, -3/+15Breeding is a privilege,not a right
- antonio97b, on 07/24/2008, -2/+14Simple answer. What is easier to stop? one egg a month or..... thousands of sperm a pop?
- TheThirdLevel, on 07/24/2008, -0/+11Angry Pirate!
- antonio97b, on 07/24/2008, -0/+11I usually just punch her in the kidney.
Am I doing it wrong? - Booooooooo, on 07/24/2008, -2/+13quite surprised there was not even a passing mention of STDs in the whole article. a bit irresponsible don't you think?
- TrevorBradley, on 07/24/2008, -0/+11Actually, being sterile is pretty awesome. I've already had all the kids I want to have, sex is easier and more spontaneous, and the worst thing about the 10-15 minute procedure was the bad humour from the doctor.
Unwanted pregnancies suck 100 times more, and not every woman is on birth control. Condoms aren't particularly effective on a long term basis. - EruditeGoof, on 07/24/2008, -0/+10There's a vas deferens between an abortion and a vasectomy.
- theutopian, on 07/24/2008, -1/+10Yeah, not every woman is a manipulative whore that wants to destroy your life.
You reap what you sow. Keep good company and form solid relationships with the opposite sex based on trust and respect. Then ***** like crazy. - kplo, on 04/01/2009, -2/+11lol! yeah, you figure men wouldn't exactly line up for those...
- liquisoft, on 07/24/2008, -0/+9Some men know they shouldn't be fathers. I applaud them for ensuring they don't.
- lisaawesome, on 07/24/2008, -1/+10That kinda bugs me too. I realize there are some crazies out there but most ladies are not out trying to get knocked up to collect child support especially during a one night stand. Being a single mom isn't typically what we aspire to. And yeah maybe you should reevaluate who you are sleeping with if you think they might do that to you.
- MaTT2011, on 07/24/2008, -2/+11jesus christ, i just LOVE the hilarious assumption that "wrapping it up" is actually effective and reliable. 95% is good; but not good enough given the possible 18 YEAR consequence. And while you CAN give up parental responsibilities you still have a FINANCIAL responsibility, FOR 18 YEARS, if your condom plan goes awry and she whips out the "oops! accidents happen even though i knowingly was not on birth control! TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE! I'm catholic! I'm (insert some ***** stupid excuse to ruin lives here)"
The problem with the female perspective here is that girls think we don't "like" wearing condoms because they "dont feel good" or some kind of immature, mentally retarded, line of logic like that when in reality its because if its the ONLY birth control being used between the two parties involved that it is then grossly unreliable. Its not just the man's responsibility; Women have a TREMENDOUS amount of options, men have 1. ONE. And if that fails we have no say despite any "well good we both don't want to have kids anytime soon" conversation that may have happened.
Forget the STD stuff too; don't confuse the issue because the issue here is pregnancy and the fact that men are powerless to its life destroying, spirit crushing consequences.
Leykis 101, boys; learn it, live it, love it. - AWBoy666, on 07/24/2008, -0/+9I think a lot of the stigma comes from the fact that when animals are castrated, their personality changes (stallion vs. gelding for example). Men are scared that they'll lose their manliness if they get the snip.
Personally, after I've had all of my children, I can't wait to get them snipped. Just be a lot easier for me and the (future) wifey. - kevisazombie, on 07/24/2008, -0/+8Thank you for turning the boat around.
- AWBoy666, on 07/24/2008, -0/+8Agreed. I don't know why any men would have a problem with them.
- DelayedEraser, on 07/24/2008, -1/+9if "giving up one or two teaspoons of his own fluid" didn't tip you off that reastydirtstar is being sarcastic/trolling, then her digg profile will.
- mllawso, on 07/24/2008, -0/+8Yeah, there's hormone based male birth control pills in testing. Side effects include enjoying reruns of little house on the prairie, and cravings for cookie-dough icecream.
- rhapsodisiac, on 07/24/2008, -0/+8No, DeathJux. If you do NOTHING valid to prevent pregnancy and don't want a child, THEN it's irresponsible to continue to have sex. There's nothing irresponsible about getting a vasectomy.
- waynetheman, on 07/24/2008, -2/+10Aaaaaaand cue the "I told you so" chorus.
This has been in the making for years, decades even. We men have seen the bias and unfairness in the courts, and this is the logical result of such insane policies and attitudes. Some of us warned you, and no one listened. Now we see the consequences. Congrats all around!
Volunteer sperm to a lesbian friend, with the understanding of no responsibility, only to have her sue you for child support later? No more of that!
Your significant other sleeps around and has a kid with someone else, but pretends it yours? No more of that!
Women claim they have exclusive right to determine if your unborn child lives or dies? Fine honey, how about NO KIDS WITH ME AT ALL--EVER?
"We told you so." - InfiniteNothing, on 07/24/2008, -1/+9Wooosh.
- NinjaDolemite, on 07/24/2008, -1/+9This is the way to go! I'm a young professional and I don't have time to raise kids. Is that so weird? Time spent wiping up poopoo and spoon feeding a kid is time I can't play halo or draw pictures of ninjas. Getting this procedure is the responsible thing to do.
