- NikkiA, on 07/12/2008, -1/+33That only works for some forms of depression, certainly not severe clinical depression - in which case, y ou're more likely to start to feel that you're *more* of a failure because the people around you are able to cope with life, etc.
At least, that's been my experience. - jggube, on 07/12/2008, -5/+35Technically not a medicine, but I feel that surrounding yourself with good, positive people is also a good cure and can help you through the tough times. As with many of life's issues, a strong support system is key to recovery.
- lukas88, on 07/13/2008, -0/+25They left out exercise, one of the few treatments shown to decrease depression consistently across clinical trials.
Exercise has been more effective at relieving depression than even pharmaceuticals designed for that purpose. There is nothing safer (in most instances), more natural, and cheaper. And the side effects are actually beneficial (healthier heart, better shape, etc).
Of course, getting a depressed person to exercise is not easy and would probably require a therapist at first (or unleashed dobermans). - inactive, on 07/12/2008, -2/+27Sexual intercourse should be listed.
Good read Doc! - edebolt, on 07/13/2008, -2/+18best cure is regular strenuous exercise. Improve the diet and no problem with those supplements. Stop smoking weed !!! Any drugs like THC, caffeine etc changes the brain. Eventually these pleasurable drug effects exhaust the brains dopamine function, adrenal glands, kidneys and depression results. Yoga is good also as it detoxifies and improves energy/blood circulation.
- noelsusman, on 07/13/2008, -2/+18Combine with sex and you've got a perfect formula for happiness.
- ricksite, on 07/13/2008, -2/+16Saying that everyone experiences depression is like saying everyone experiences cancer. Feeling depressed and depression are two different things.
- MadMalc, on 07/12/2008, -3/+16Like and forgive yourself, don't beat yourself up or blame yourself.
- louiebaur, on 07/12/2008, -6/+18I found that using unnatural medication works a lot better for me like xanax:-)
- descrysis, on 07/13/2008, -3/+1311. Masturbation. (Once a day everyday, drives the pain away).
- Aeroboy, on 07/13/2008, -4/+13Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
- gahal, on 07/13/2008, -1/+10Good positive people just tend to piss me off.
- lohphat, on 07/13/2008, -0/+7You don't get it do you? Homeopathic "remedies" are so diluted there's not even ONE molecule in the entire box! This isn't medicine or science, it's marketing and the placebo effect.
- xpftw, on 07/13/2008, -2/+9forgot to mention sex
- System6, on 07/13/2008, -3/+10MIRROR! How depressing.....wait! Irony!

- MortalynFlux, on 07/13/2008, -1/+7Avocados block estrogen and regulate insulin levels. This is good for regulating moods. It also lowers cholesterol, which can lower blood pressure. Also, a balanced, nutritious diet with calorie deficiency will optimize your body, nervous system, and brain functioning. Aside from vitamin D, most people don't get enough vitamin A, K, C, and E. You can vitamin A and K from Kale, Broccoli, and Spinach. You can get vitamin C from grape juice and onions. You can get vitamin E from wheat germ oil. As far as the B vitamins, clams, oysters, and mollusks are a great source of B12 while being low-calorie. Brewer's Yest, Mushrooms, Lentils, and Quinoa are great sources of the other B vitamins while being low in calories and very healthy and good for you..
- tobikow, on 07/13/2008, -4/+10#1: The placebo effect.
Actually, never mind that. - inactive, on 07/12/2008, -3/+8this list was not depressing at all. Good stuff.
- Cate320, on 07/13/2008, -2/+7"Be sure, however, that you are not iron deficient if you are depressed, as a public health study saw a correlation between iron deficiency anemia and depression in young women."
Very interesting. I never knew that. I am usually iron deficient but didn't think it really had any effect on my mood (other than making me tired). I guess I should start taking my supplements again *groan*. - fruscianteisgod, on 07/13/2008, -2/+711 kief bowl?
- lohphat, on 07/13/2008, -4/+9Homeopathy is for morons who failed grade school math.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWE1tH93G9U - tobikow, on 07/13/2008, -0/+5I think what he meant was that being diagnosed with depression and feeling depressed are two different things. Everyone feels a little blue once and a while.
- chrissku, on 07/13/2008, -1/+5I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. And gosh darnet people like me.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+4Yeah it's already covered exclusively by the rest of the list.
- Gotar, on 07/13/2008, -0/+4I'm sorry but I can't help but look at that thumbnail and laugh at the strategically placed melons.
- BevansDesign, on 07/13/2008, -0/+4No, homeopathy really is 100% scam. It's a placebo at best. Watch the video. Please.
- talkingwires, on 07/13/2008, -2/+6"Visitors, we are sorry, however, this site is experiencing difficulties at this time. Please return later."
Well, so much for that. The server was so depressed, it killed itself. - jcorn1, on 07/12/2008, -4/+8I really enjoyed reading this one. Thanks for letting me know about it.
- nowsamsara, on 07/13/2008, -3/+7St. John’s wort and the B-Complex! Glad to see they were listed! WTG Doc!
- BevansDesign, on 07/13/2008, -0/+3"...or a big fat placebo. It's all the same crap!"
- BevansDesign, on 07/13/2008, -0/+3"Feeling down" and "depression" are two very different things.
- Hetman, on 07/13/2008, -5/+8The occasional mushroom always seems to give me a brighter perspective on the world around me also.
- bnsullivan, on 07/12/2008, -4/+7Well done, Nicole.
- omyard, on 07/13/2008, -0/+33 times a days causes pain...
- parallax7d, on 07/13/2008, -6/+9stop reading digg would help too
- MrZee, on 07/13/2008, -1/+4I wouldn't go so far as to say "stop smoking weed". I think the changes you described would only occur if you smoked it everyday, all day. As with almost everything else in life, moderation is the key.
- Niightwitch, on 07/13/2008, -0/+3Xanax isn't a good choice for depression, sure it's a feel good medication, but it's very addictive and you have to keep taking higher and higher doses to get the same effect. You end up with more problems than you started with.
- noseeme, on 07/13/2008, -4/+7I can't believe you ***** are digging this. Homeopathy? FOR ***** SAKE!!!!
That's almost as stupid as trying to cure severe paranoid schizophrenia with a bunch of random multivitamins and an E-Meter. - akula89, on 07/13/2008, -0/+3Failed to Connect

depressing. - tobikow, on 07/13/2008, -1/+4Because most diggers are also stoners.
New here? Than light up a bowl!
- tobikow, on 07/13/2008, -0/+3I somehow read that as "tiger attacks."
I lol'd. - Sroek, on 07/13/2008, -0/+3Alcohol is a depressant.
- Jacare, on 07/13/2008, -0/+2walk it off
- BevansDesign, on 07/13/2008, -2/+4There's no such thing as "alternative medicine". There's medicine, and then there's ***** that doesn't work. If it works, it gets used. If it doesn't, it gets tossed aside, and then the scumbags come along and try to sell it as a "miracle drug" that "THEY" don't want you to know about.
- Kingster, on 07/13/2008, -0/+2Yahoo cached it:

In a word, yes. In more than a word: I have been clinically depressed for 6 years. I took medication for awhile, and ended up addicted to Xanax. In moderation, smoking pot calmed my nerves and relieved my depression symptoms. Smoking made me more sociable, but in a more aware type of way (unlike alcohol which makes you more social in a falling down the stairs and going home with a stranger kind of way) which in turn made me happier, because when I was depressed, I rarely wanted to socialize. - spinur, on 07/13/2008, -0/+2Nicely done. I was getting ready to post a comment criticizing the use of natural products for a potentially very serious medical condition, but the author did it herself. Very well written, scientifically and very well balanced. It presents both risk and benefits without bias. Digg should post more articles like this.
- TheKillDoctor, on 07/13/2008, -0/+2combine sex with psilocybe cubensis and you have a cure.
