- itsbob, on 03/04/2008, -1/+23#8- Step away from Digg and do something
- Zoctogon, on 03/04/2008, -1/+18This article is simply common sense with anecdotes and pretty pictures. Nothing particularly new or interesting.
- florin, on 03/04/2008, -2/+17#0 Knowledge - without it, it's all worthless. Trust me, I've been there.
Here's a good site with lots of info:
http://t-nation.com/ - florin, on 03/04/2008, -0/+10Correct training, proper nutrition, lots of rest, plus just plain old stubbornness can overcome a lot of "bad genetics".
In fact, a lot of lazy people complain that their "genetics are bad". I'm not saying there is no such thing as "bad genetics", I'm just saying it's an overused excuse. - cygnus2112, on 03/04/2008, -2/+11You train chickens to exercise? Purely amazing!
How do you keep them from being peckers? - LynchBomb, on 03/04/2008, -1/+8Hey I don't know if you guys have heard about this new program out there that's really hot right now... It's like the Atkins diet but better. It's called "Eating Right and Exercising." Try it.
- frogman54, on 03/04/2008, -0/+7Maybe I should try this stuff instead of cocaine. That *****'s expensive.
- hotsexybaldness, on 03/04/2008, -2/+8Good article and makes a ton of sense.
- deadlift, on 03/04/2008, -1/+6LIGHTWEIGHT! Nothin' but a peanut!
- Sassmo, on 03/04/2008, -0/+5JB: Its where you ***** lay down flat on the ground.
KG: Yeah...
JB: And then you let your boner lift you up off the ground.
KG: N...no, that's, that'd be impossible. Your ***** can support your whole
weight?
JB: Well not at first...
KG: Yeah?
JB: But over time.
KG: Hmm...how many pushups can you do?
JB: ...***** pushups?
KG: Yeah...I guess, you could only do one really.
JB: Yeah, well one is all ya need - Pake, on 03/04/2008, -3/+8Why Digg.... why must everyone use "7 Habits of" in their self-help *****. Please, someone shoot Stephen Covey and free the world from his ridiculous crap and the ridiculous crap people base their articles off of.
- florin, on 03/04/2008, -0/+5The amount of ignorance on this topic is simply amazing.
- Gizza, on 03/04/2008, -0/+5That's what fat lazy people say.
- hazard99, on 03/04/2008, -0/+5I thought all this was common sense...
- gdixon, on 03/04/2008, -2/+6Didn't even have the stamina to get through that article:(
- philconow, on 03/04/2008, -0/+4How does going to the gym deprive you of pleasure? Personally I feel pleasure when I finish a good workout.
- steveoco, on 03/04/2008, -0/+4By far the most gains I have seen with regard to adding weight or losing weight have had to do with one rule... CONSISTENCY!
Working out big every now and then, or doing cardio every now and again will not get you the results you want. Keep it routine and your goals will be met. - Tweekster, on 03/04/2008, -0/+3Working out is quite pleasurable.
The postive health benefits are quite pleasureable. The sex appeal you create by becoming healthy looking is pleasureable. - Tweekster, on 03/04/2008, -0/+3Genetics, something that really doesnt matter to the average person.
Genetics only matter if you are planning on being an elite/pro athlete.
People that use genetics are just grasping at excuses for their total lack of dedication . - NoctemSaiyaku, on 03/04/2008, -0/+3Fact is no one will convince anyone to go to the gym. That person has to decide for themselves.
- Gizza, on 03/04/2008, -0/+3The thing about common sense is that it's not all that common.
- thailand1972, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2What is this "motivation" and "desire" the author speaks of?
- Fiestardi, on 03/04/2008, -1/+3Thank you Captain Obvious !
- dubdope, on 03/04/2008, -2/+4wow. great insight.
i can't wait for the next article where justaguything.com tells me that unhealthy food is bad for me. - florin, on 03/04/2008, -1/+3Put ass on couch, eat potato chips, repeat.
- Akaricloud, on 03/04/2008, -1/+3Jesus, I just read the article and got a few lines in of #7 and read
"The best way to motivate yourself in order to get out of the kind of slump I was in is to make a goal and focus on it 100%. My first goal was to lose fat, improve my cardiovascular fitness and look good in the mirror. Whenever I think about quitting (which is very rarely) I think back to how I looked in the mirror that evening and it keeps me going. You need to find whatever trigger you need to motivate you. It could be how you look, how someone you admire looks or how your girlfriend feels about your body."
This is 100% the worst thing possible. Working on "mirror muscles" is one of the worst things possible for your body. All you do is build up your chest, shoulders and biceps/triceps. Your lower back, thighs and calfs etc. All get ignored and as a result not only do you look like a chicken (no lower body, all upper body) it seriously jeopardises your long term well being, a weak lower back is one of the worst things long term speaking.
I just read the rest of #7 and it said
"I like to think that my desire is strongest when I’m in the gym lifting weights. When I’m struggling to finish that 5th rep of 270lbs on the squat rack, there is nothing I want more in the entire world at that very moment than to complete my set. I purposely block out everything in my life for those few moments and focus all of my desire and energy on squeezing out one last rep."
Oh my dear god, nothing is worse short term then over doing it! motivation and pushing yourself is important, but if your just starting out and you push yourself like hes saying your going to do yourself an injury and then won't be able to work out for several weeks/months and as such BOOM. Not only there goes your motivation, but when your ready agian, you don't want to start back up because of fear of doing yourself an injury again. - nesibus, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2hmmm....push your muscles harder?
I guess I could try by possibly digging up a few more comments during the day. - Akaricloud, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2For me, I've found the website www.trickstutorials.com is one of the greatest resources for people both novice and expert (No I'm not affiliated with them in anyway)
Someone further up linked to the website www.t-nation.com It is a great resource (just turn off images if your like me and don't want to see half naked guys posing) Two of the best articles I've read are:
http://www.t-nation.com/readArticle.do?id=1764218
http://www.t-nation.com/readArticle.do?id=1765943
And although they focus more on muscle building a lot of it has to do with just fitness in general. - BlackJackJester, on 03/04/2008, -1/+3Yea, but in a country full of get-thin quick medications and miracle cures, someone needs to get out there and say the only way to get your ass in shape is to work out, and eat healthy. No, you cant' lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks and keep it off forever, you need to get your ass to the gym 5 days a week and never stop going.
- Akaricloud, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2Another retard who's trying to emulate 4 chan.
Heres the rule of thumb fozzy incase you thought this made you cool. Rick rolling and motivational posting is a newfag thing, it shows your new to 4chan and image boards in general. It's not wanted here on digg, so be sure to start googling for the 4chan rules and try to come back here and post one of them thinking it makes you awesome. - zzzpoohzzz, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2#8 change your workout periodically... your body gets used to doing the same thing over and over again
- solidcube, on 03/04/2008, -1/+3Captain Obvious blogs again. What in here isn't known by anyone who hasn't been either a complete couch potato their whole life or lived in a hole with no access to any media? The exercise industry is saturated with material and there are ever more personal trainers and yadda yadda than ever before. There is nothing new under the sun.
- threemagic, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1See.. genetics! :)
- threemagic, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1You release endorphins when you work out.. enough said.
- Clumber, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1How does one reach, though?
- tylerjames, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1I rather like
http://www.stronglifts.com - nhd4me, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1But I thought surfing was good cardio exercise ... oh I see ...
- Jaliyl, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1I am very lazy but not fat, I have a super high metabolism.
- webbua, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1So are you getting enough then?
- Clumber, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1You think the photos are pretty? :/
I have to disagree about the "is simply common sense..." While it may be, the very act of reading the ***** you already know (need to stop making excuse, get my ass to gym...) can help you retrain your lazy-ass brain to make excuses TO GO to the gym. If you let it. Of course, everyone's mileage varies, so what helps me get my lazy ass to the gym might not help you get yours there.
Now get off your ass and go for a walk. Digg will wait for you right here. Now git. No, not when you finish this thread - NOW. - jrignaci, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1Desire, by far, is the top priority for me. I personally believe everything else falls into place, including eating and the consistency. Hell, even just doing all of the common sense stuff the author mentioned will be there if you really want the workout to be part of your life.
- dropkickjoe, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1I agree with everything you posted, but it is way too much protein to have one gram for every pound of weight:
-The human body recycles 70 percent of its proteinaceous waste
-The human body loses only about 23 grams of protein a day
-Consuming more than the body requires places a heavy burden on the system as it tries to rid itself of this excess
*Protein is not built in the body by eating protein, it is built from the amino acids in food
*If you eat any fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, or sprouts on a regular basis, you are receiving all the amino acids necessary for your body to buid the protein it needs. - askewed, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1Get a 404 now and can't find the article on the site.
- JKAL, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1#00 Action - Without it, it's all worthless. Trust me, I am there. Knowledge and Action go hand in hand.
- cocoabear, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1It's with the beef.
- Akaricloud, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1http://www.t-nation.com/readArticle.do?id=1765943
Read that and scroll down to #6. It talks about how change is good, but within reason. Changing your routine every 2 or 3 weeks is really bad for you, however spicing things up and doing exercises you hate the most is really rewarding. Change = Good. But only limited change. - drksun, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1http://www.anabolicminds.com ftw
- atact88, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1It's probably one of those magic numbers that stick with people easily. It's not too few, it's not too many. Psychology has a lot to do with it. It's like giving a presentation, and grouping items into lists of 3 or 4 to make it easy for the audience to remember. 7 habits isn't so few that you blow it off, but not so many you just get overwhelmed by the list.
