- Elsewhere42, on 07/19/2009, -14/+147Wow! I want that deal!
1. Create a mass public panic
2. Create the only "cure" for this panic
3. Sell "cure" with total immunity.
I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with this plan. - EMFK, on 07/19/2009, -3/+103FTA: "Vaccine makers and federal officials will be immune from lawsuits that result from any new swine flu vaccine."
Should have read:
Vaccine makers and federal officials will be the first tested for any new and upcoming swine flu vaccines.
Much better idea. - shmizer1, on 07/19/2009, -27/+84That's messed up, no accountability? Obama is morphing into Bush. First he okays wiretapping, now this...what's next mandatory vaccinations?
- MrBrotato, on 07/19/2009, -8/+60Just what those pharmaceutical guys need, protection from the law.
- NoQuarter, on 07/19/2009, -7/+40Governments are asking that this vaccine is made as quickly as possible. They want it out and in use asap at the cost of lengthy testing that a normal vaccine undergoes because on the balance of probabilities, that's probably better for the health of the wider population.
Why on earth should pharmaceutical companies release under those conditions if they could be sued for billions in the unlikely event of a problem? Hell, they've been sued plenty in the past for vaccines which were perfectly safe. - FluffyWolf, on 07/19/2009, -4/+374. Profit!!!
- kiwijam, on 07/19/2009, -4/+34Please tell me you're being sarcastic. This kind of thinking is beyond mindless. No one, not individuals, not governments, not corporations, should have legal immunity. This is so basic, that to ignore it, is toe a slippery slope into a society where the powers that be can do no wrong and therefore should not be questioned, nor checked.
- richmomz, on 07/19/2009, -3/+29Most people don't remember the first swine flu scare in 1976, when the government rushed to vaccinate over 20 million U.S. citizens. Lucky for the pharm. companies they were given legal immunity by the government, because their vaccinations ended up killing more people than the virus did!
"what's next mandatory vaccinations?" Probably. That already being planned in some countries (including the UK I think) - Presbyterian, on 07/19/2009, -13/+39^Bitter Obama voter.
- dukeeeey, on 07/19/2009, -6/+32"There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine thus far developed is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza. The producers of these vaccines know that they are worthless, but they go on selling them anyway." - Dr J Anthony Morris, former Chief Vaccine Control Officer and research virologist, US FDA
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -3/+25Just sell the people arsenic and laugh at the legality of mass murder. This is of course a sensationalist comment.
- pika2000, on 07/19/2009, -2/+23This is not new. Form the original article itself:
"Since the 1980s, the government has protected vaccine makers against lawsuits over the use of childhood vaccines. Instead, a federal court handles claims and decides who will be paid from a special fund.
The document signed by Sebelius last month grants immunity to those making a swine flu vaccine, under the provisions of a 2006 law for public health emergencies. It allows for a compensation fund, if needed."

Adam Curry is going to have a field day in No Agenda. - Mujokan, on 07/19/2009, -3/+23It's the same procedure as childhood vaccines. You have a situation where there is a great public interest in having as wide a take-up as possible. When that happens, inevitably there will be problems caused. But the moral calculation is that inaction is worse. To get companies to develop such widely-used and essential drugs you have to take on some of the risk for them. Especially with drugs against pandemic-potential fast-moving diseases where time is of the essence. So I agree that this makes sense, unless you have no concerns about pandemics.
Of course these days every second person is a conspiracy theorist. It gets kind of irritating. - skidork, on 07/19/2009, -21/+40Dear Schizo Digg community,
No one is forcing you to get this vaccine. In fact, you should not get it, so that those that want it can get it. Thank you.
With all honesty, here is what may happen this fall: The normal flu and the swine flu infect the same vector, recombine in said vector, and become resistant to all available vaccines. In that cases, the vaccinations will have been pointless. - enrq, on 07/19/2009, -1/+17he was right. the path to profiting is clear.
- Appox, on 07/19/2009, -7/+23That's sick. It's like they just thought, ***** it, can't be arsed with the complaints if this goes wrong.
- richmomz, on 07/19/2009, -2/+17That or it will be just like the first swine flu scare in 1976 (where the vaccine killed more people than the virus).
- tgc1, on 07/19/2009, -4/+19I think it says something when someone from inside the FDA / Government comes out and decrees these vaccines as *****.
- mycutepetpics, on 07/19/2009, -1/+15"Vaccine makers and federal officials will be the first tested for any new and upcoming swine flu vaccines."
Wake me up when that day ever happens.
Lol - Fhwqhgads, on 07/19/2009, -2/+16Digg for kiwijam.
Someone knows what's really going on! - tgc1, on 07/19/2009, -8/+21This is further evidence of our Governments exhibiting tyrannical behavior. Acting without regard to repercussions or jeopardy to life. All in the name of profit.
The last president sought immunity for Telcos who were engaged in domestic spying operations. This president is seeking immunity for pharmaceutical enterprises engaged in who the ***** knows what. You can draw your own conclusions but to me if it were about saving lives due to the threat of some virus, they would be a lot quicker to inform us of just what is going on and how exactly this vaccine is going to combat that. Backed up with facts, scientific evidence, trials, etc. Not *****, excuses and misinformation. A move for immunity should set off a red alert. That is only something people who are intending to do something WHO NEED immunity -- ie. people who are about to do bad things for which they may be liable.
You really expect people to trust their government when they are up to this kind of activity? This is abhorrent. Absolutely disgusting behavior. Putting profit ahead of lives.
And to all of you who scream conspiracy nut and put on your tin-foil -- go ***** yourselves. People are dying over this sort of *****. We have EVERY RIGHT to know what is being injected into our bodies. Even if so much as ONE person is harmed from the use of a vaccine -- it should be held as suspect until proven safe. And last time I checked, the realm of science and medicine (based on science) does not discriminate facts. It does not label you a moron if you ask questions. It acknowledges them. If these matters cannot be held to the scrutiny of science then what they are practicing is not based on science and therefore should be suspect as an agenda of questionable intent. - B1665r, on 07/19/2009, -3/+16Put deadly flu virus in eggs, let the eggs rot, mix it up and inject it in people, what could go wrong?
- norman619, on 07/19/2009, -4/+17Wrong. They aren't mandatory. They are optional. If you want to put your child in PUBLIC school then you have the have them vaccinated. You have to option of not vaccinating and homeschooling or finding a private school which does not require children be vaccinated.
- fwertz, on 07/19/2009, -2/+15I do. Billy isn't around to plug it. :/
- verifex, on 07/19/2009, -3/+14Idle speculation here, but the reason for this immunity might be that the government is forcing the FDA to fast-track this vaccine through the approval process. They probably figure they need it ASAP and can't wait for the full round of testing that most drugs should have. Even still, this is terrible, who does the family of the person who dies from a completely untested drug go to for accountability?
- JCPahl, on 07/19/2009, -2/+12Norman619, you are also wrong. There are waiver forms to avoid vaccinating your children for public school.
- richmomz, on 07/19/2009, -3/+13It's happened before - there was a Swine Flu scare back in 1976 when the government rushed the creation of a vaccine and gave it to millions of people. Because of the rushed approval process, the vaccine ended up killing more people than the virus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swine_influenza#1976_ ...
Here's more interesting info on legal immunity for vaccine makers: http://www.prisonplanet.com/legal-immunity-set-for ...
And another interesting article about how Baxter (you may recall that they were in a scandal earlier this year when scientists found live avian and human flu mixed together in some of their vaccines) applied for a swine flu vaccine patent just 9 months ago (includes .pdf of the patent application itself): http://www.prisonplanet.com/baxter-files-swine-flu ... - Presbyterian, on 07/19/2009, -7/+17Source?.
- gsxraddict, on 07/19/2009, -20/+30Do not get this vaccine, it is worse for you then swine flu.
- tgc1, on 07/19/2009, -4/+13Mercury does not absorb quite as readily through the skin as it does being injected right into your blood stream.
Also, the damage from mercury is cumulative. Meaning it never leaves your system. Sure, one or two small exposures might not screw you up -- but over time you'll really screw yourself when the levels of mercury in your body reach damaging levels. - dukeeeey, on 07/19/2009, -8/+17hows this one for you
Dr. David Ayoub, Assistant Prof. of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and Medical Director of Prairie Collaborative, an immunization watchdog organization in Springfield says the mercury contained in one dose of the flu vaccine exceeds both the EPA's and CDC's adult toxicity limits for organic mercury exposure and could be considered a toxic waste. "For mercury level to be defined as toxic waste level is 200 parts per billion. What is contained in a mercury vaccine vial is 50,000 parts per billion, so if you were to drop a vaccine vial, you would have to call hazmat. I mean that's a toxic hazard and we are injecting toxic waste levels of mercury into people and that's unimaginable." - enrq, on 07/19/2009, -0/+8why concentrate? diluted yields higher profits.
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -5/+13"Of course these days every second person is a conspiracy theorist. It gets kind of irritating."
Amen to that. The idiots that refuse their children vaccinations are the cause of more death than governments and their non existent conspiracies ever have been. These loons like to fixate on imagined plots and dangers rather than see the blatantly obvious risks right in front of them. I guess that living in a fantasy world where they're the hero protagonist in a titanic struggle with the 'leviathan' of government, is more preferable to living in the real world where they are not special at all and there is no grand conspiracy.
You only have to look at all the mis-guided 'slippery slope' fallacies being trotted out by them on this thread. - LenBaird, on 07/19/2009, -5/+13The vaccine will cause more harm than the flu. I also think that they are fully aware of this, and this is an attempt to cover their asses when people realize it.
- WolfHook, on 07/19/2009, -6/+13Take the shot then, crack on lad and see what damaging effects it has on you and yours.
I haven't had any kind of shot for over 20 years and I do alright, I think I will take my chances with the good old immune system than gamble on this ***** you *****!
Overall though I do wonder about people like you and how you choose to believe everything is all OK, trust government, big pharma and the likes. That fact that the American government is giving them total immunity (how apt!), from any kind of legal accountability whatsoever, does that not actually strike any alarm bells off in your head? - inactive, on 07/19/2009, -5/+12does anyone trust government? this is why i am libertarian, at least the private sector does not have the power to make itself immune from lawsuits, only govenment has that power. ***** unbelievable.
- Petestreet, on 07/19/2009, -2/+9Pssst. Dude, want some swine flue vaccine?
Five bucks. This *****'s legit. I made it myself. - ismhmr, on 07/19/2009, -4/+11You would have to be completely insane to take these vaccines.
- revkult, on 07/19/2009, -1/+7influenza changes from year to year. Swine flu is a form of influenza. Time is not on our side when creating new vaccinations for a virus that is constantly changing. It makes perfect sense to me that a pharmaceutical company, when asked by our government to rush out a vaccine against a deadly virus, that they should want immunity themselves.
We live in a capitalist government. Your "Big Pharma" is in this to make a profit and not to be sued out of existence. If we didn't live in a capitalist society you would probably be complaining about how "Big socialist government" isn't developing a vaccine fast enough.
You also have the right in the US to not take the vaccine. Remember, wash your hands and don't touch your face. - DankBuddz, on 07/19/2009, -3/+9@eatasandwich
Yeah, because there weren't thousands of people who were left paralyzed with brain damage in the 70s when they rushed the swine flu vaccine back then. Perfectly safe. You won't read that in your "history for dummies" text book, you'd have to actually look into investigative reporting for that.
Good luck though, that would require you to look deeper than the 3 different news channels you flip between on your TV. - katieface, on 07/19/2009, -1/+7Well, this looks safe.
/s - B1665r, on 07/19/2009, -3/+9Read the novel, "World War Z". That book had everything. It has been a better prediction of modern times than anything else in science fiction. For that reason, I for one welcome our future zombie overlords.
- mycutepetpics, on 07/19/2009, -1/+7"Bright highlights the fact that Baxter is currently facing criminal charges for producing contaminated "bird flu" vaccine that date back to February of this year when it became known that the company had sent out 72 kilos of live "bird flu" virus supplied by the World Health Organization in the winter of 2009 to 16 laboratories in four countries. These charges were filed by journalist Jane Burgermeister of Austria and were exclusively reported by Natural News"
Makes this story more interesting- http://www.naturalnews.com/026503_pandemic_swine_f ...
I'm also pretty sure there is a news video out there concerning one country, that's already considering making these shots mandatory for all of their citizens. I'll try and locate it and post it back here - odigity, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6This panic is total *****: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlIiP40_rvI
- BrapAllgood, on 07/19/2009, -1/+7"NUREMBERG CODE
1. The voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential. This means that the person involved should have legal capacity to give consent; should be so situated as to be able to exercise free power of choice, without the intervention of any element of force, fraud, deceit, duress, over-reaching, or other ulterior form of constraint or coercion; and should have sufficient knowledge and comprehension of the elements of the subject matter involved as to enable him to make an understanding and enlightened decision. This latter element requires that before the acceptance of an affirmative decision by the experimental subject there should be made known to him the nature, duration, and purpose of the experiment; the method and means by which it is to be conducted; all inconveniences and hazards reasonable to be expected; and the effects upon his health or person which may possibly come from his participation in the experiment.
The duty and responsibility for ascertaining the quality of the consent rests upon each individual who initiates, directs or engages in the experiment. It is a personal duty and responsibility which may not be delegated to another with impunity.
2. The experiment should be such as to yield fruitful results for the good of society, unprocurable by other methods or means of study, and not random and unnecessary in nature.
3. The experiment should be so designed and based on the results of animal experimentation and a knowledge of the natural history of the disease or other problem under study that the anticipated results will justify the performance of the experiment.
4. The experiment should be so conducted as to avoid all unnecessary physical and mental suffering and injury.
5. No experiment should be conducted where there is an a priori reason to believe that death or disabling injury will occur; except, perhaps, in those experiments where the experimental physicians also serve as subjects.
6. The degree of risk to be taken should never exceed that determined by the humanitarian importance of the problem to be solved by the experiment.
7. Proper preparations should be made and adequate facilities provided to protect the experimental subject against even remote possibilities of injury, disability, or death.
8. The experiment should be conducted only by scientifically qualified persons. The highest degree of skill and care should be required through all stages of the experiment of those who conduct or engage in the experiment.
9. During the course of the experiment the human subject should be at liberty to bring the experiment to an end if he has reached the physical or mental state where continuation of the experiment seems to him to be impossible.
10. During the course of the experiment the scientist in charge must be prepared to terminate the experiment at any stage, if he has probable cause to believe, in the exercise of the good faith, superior skill and careful judgment required of him that a continuation of the experiment is likely to result in injury, disability, or death to the experimental subject."

I call shenanigans. Big 'uns. - DankBuddz, on 07/19/2009, -4/+9Learn from the past. Retard.
"That's right; the last time we had to create a vaccine quickly and immunise people en-masse, the government got hammered with ***** of lawsuits from every ***** idiot who's read some drivel on the web and thinks vaccines are poison."
Actually there were thousands of cases involving paralysis and brain damage. You wouldn't know this though, because you're a mainstream media retard.
Feel free to enlighten yourself by reading 'richmomz' comment below. - inactive, on 07/19/2009, -7/+12Take off the tin-foil hat dude.
- Fhwqhgads, on 07/19/2009, -11/+16Mandatory vaccinations isn't NEXT it's NOW. It's all done when you're a child.
Just not mandatory for swine flu... yet. - 69fezz96, on 07/19/2009, -3/+8Yeh, come work for us and you'll never get sued. I'm quite certain the quality of health care will go up in those conditions.
