- robwhite1979, on 11/03/2009, -1/+83Even though H1N1 is totally over hyped right now it's still only polite to cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. If the other "lady" asked her politely to cover up the cougher is a totally disgusting human being for spitting on another person and I would have punched her in the face also if she had spit on me...well, maybe not punched her in the face given that I'm a giant man but I certainty made it very clear what I thought of her and told her exactly where she should go...
What's wrong with people??!?! - DjBearPDX, on 11/03/2009, -0/+63Two girls, one cough
- perrycarter, on 11/03/2009, -2/+55I like that they put "girl-on-girl" in the headline.
- yttrstein, on 11/03/2009, -2/+43Are you a giant man because you ate all the commas in the world?
- atroxodisse, on 11/03/2009, -1/+37Beause getting in a fist fight with someone will reduce your chance of getting a communicable disease.
- Igotamangina, on 11/03/2009, -0/+35"Girl-on-girl"? Really, NBC? REALLY?
- alexchiltonfan, on 11/03/2009, -1/+29Anyone who doesn't cover their mouth when they cough deserves a beat down. Same goes for not using your turn signal or forgetting to make me a sandwich...
- Verchiel77, on 11/03/2009, -6/+28Waiting for the WorldNut and Faux News crowd to claim this "social unrest" is all part of Obama's plan to undermine the country with swine flu.
- TeeBaagz, on 11/03/2009, -0/+19The woman who didn't cover her mouth is in the wrong. It's common sense and common etiquette to cover your mouth if you're coughing or sneezing, especially in a crowded public space like a train. I'd like to know how the fight transpired, but it seems like the lady refused to cover her mouth and then spit in the other lady's face. Real classy.
- DreKor, on 11/03/2009, -0/+19If you can't trump up business by scaring people with the flu, try porn instead.
- CAD420, on 11/03/2009, -3/+21Seriously? WTF does that have to do with anything?
I'm guessing you're Christian because you're going around shoving religion where it doesn't belong. - whosmav, on 11/03/2009, -5/+22People feel so powerless that they become indignant the first chance they get. The fact that its about swine flu is arbitrary.
- fxu1989, on 11/03/2009, -1/+17Atheism is not a religion.
- Samurai77, on 11/03/2009, -0/+15Ya but she spit on her, that is an assault, not an appropriate response to have been told to do something you were taught in preschool.
- FormerBabby, on 11/03/2009, -0/+13I want to punch people on the subway everyday, especially the ones who use their iPhones like a boombox. I DONT WANT TO HEAR YOUR SHAT MUSIC.
- jsauter, on 11/03/2009, -0/+12I saw a some vermin with his mother at a store telling her at the top of his lungs that he doesn't cover his mouth when he coughs or sneezes. She just laughed it off instead of trying to correct him.
Whether there is pandemic flu or not, it is rude and nasty to hack up your lungs on someone else. - 8fans, on 11/03/2009, -2/+13When parents fail to teach some manners, I kind of like the idea of random strangers helping out. Might be good for society as a whole. And yeah I know this person was old enough to know better but I still blame the parents.
- TeeBaagz, on 11/03/2009, -0/+11If I'm not mistaken, spitting on someone's face is also a crime (unless it's porn) in some places and I think NY is one of them. That bitch should be arrested.
- yttrstein, on 11/03/2009, -0/+10Niiiiice! Anyway, the D train only carries mutants. Fuggeddaboudit.
- Chompy, on 11/03/2009, -0/+10You should have saved room for an apostrophe.
- peestandingup, on 11/03/2009, -0/+8People who are generally nice for some reason become real ***** on crowded trains & other public transportation Ive noticed.
- stuffradio, on 11/03/2009, -0/+7I'm a Christian and your post is irrelevant. (My saying I'm a Christian is irrelevant too) but seriously, you don't need to bring religion into every post.
- altgeeky1, on 11/03/2009, -2/+9I'm sorry to burst your philosophical bubble, but coughing in a crowd and NOT covering it is stupid, offensive, risky and passive aggressive behavior.... and spitting in someone's face IS assault and you have a right to defend yourself.
And yes, I GET your philosophical statement and for less confrontational/ignorant scenarios, I'd probably agree. I don't think it applies here...
People don't have a choice when others around them *choose* to not have courtesy.
Seeing this article, I immediately thought of 2005 Korean 'Dog Poop Girl' who refused to clean up her dog's mess in the subway, even when people offered her towels. - CAD420, on 11/03/2009, -0/+7Obviously, you must be new here..
That connection is a stretch at best...besides, who wouldn't want to see a video of two chicks fighting? - DCstewieG, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6You lost me at "Brawl".
- Alli3388, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6I think anyone who doesn't cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze deserve to be punched. Let alone spitting on people. What did this coughing lady say?? "***** you! I'm not gonna cover my mouth when I cough!!"... I mean, really??? Talk about letting your stubbornness get in the way of logic.
- Mujokan, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6The fact that it was on the NY subway probably isn't arbitrary.
- whosmav, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5Zing!
- 3arth, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5Hey BRIAN RIES, why the hell are you using a SARS photo for your damn article? .
- Quaterni0n, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5You're not necessarily correct with your assumption. I think he just wanted to see some girl on girl action.
- Mujokan, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/obamas ...
- iBleeedOrange, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5I always thought they had rules against that. On the buses I ride to campus they have a sign that states no music playing devices without headphones.
- altgeeky1, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4From actually reading the article, it sure sounds like the cougher is the one who initiated violence:
1) Instead of apologizing for exposing everyone around her, she started a shouting match
2) Then just as her stop came up, she escalated things by SPITTING on the complainer.
You do have a point that it is "unsanitary" to defend yourself against assault, but that's a very unorthodox point of view. My personal preference would be to BURN THE TYPHOID BITCH... but I'm kind of old-fashioned that way. - anotherjack, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4Spitting on a person is legally considered assault.
- JackOpfor, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4I was on the train and this kid was all zonked out with his hoodie pulled over his head. Every minute or so he would raise his head to cough on his fellow passengers than cover his head again. it was classic.
but I really dugg for the girl on girl headline :P - BrewBeau, on 11/03/2009, -1/+5Well, there is the slim chance that person might cover their mouth next time.
- anotherjack, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4Mom Judo may be in effect. Sometimes a mother knows her son is trying to start a fight. She knows to laugh at him rather than engage. If she react like he expects, it's on, and suddenly he's hucking loogies just to prove his independence. Teenagers, man. You gotta be a zen master just to get through a day of shopping.
- Shanks0711, on 11/03/2009, -1/+5I object to the misleading use of "girl-on-girl"
- DankBuddz, on 11/03/2009, -1/+5Who do you blame after that? The grandparents?
Blaming the parents only goes so far. - TeeBaagz, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4ORLY??!
- altgeeky1, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4Fox News is only campaigning against the swine flu vaccine, so that they can trumpet how the government did not do enough.
Or perhaps Fox would just rather see "densely populated urban areas" cleansed of H1N1 using "fire". - diemunkiesdie, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3Not punching a woman just because you are a man is sexist. Equal rights! Punch her in the mouth!
- altgeeky1, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3>Why fight someone because they spit on you? Its silly and it will get you arrested.
It's not like this woman coughed on others, then someone hit her.
No, she coughed on others then CONTINUED TO DO SO after being asked to cover her mouth. That IS assault right there.
Even that was not enough... she had to spit on someone then run for the train door. That's a second assault.
Perhaps she's mentally ill and not fit to be out unsupervised... because you just can't go around assaulting people with disease. That's ludicrous.
Unless you commit other crimes, I can pretty much guarantee that responding to assault with violence is NOT a convict-able offense in most places, including the US. There's also a possibility for civil action. - Cyberdropping, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3CATFIGHT!!!!
- Rsulliv1, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3nor should it be tolerated.
- jshhmr, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3How could people act like......OH! New York? Carry on then.
- altgeeky1, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4>yet implied white by saying her hair was dyed blond.
You must live in a very culturally conservative area:
Go to ANY city, and you'll see fake blonde hair... and their skin may be white, blonde, or black. - wassamatta, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3You stand on the subway and let someone cough all over you during flu season. Tell me how you feel when you have a fever a few days later. People should not be taking public transportation when sick (or showing up for work). What it it was worse than flu? I don't know.. ..pick one:
Ahh tuberculosis:
Contagious by droplet?: Yes
Contagious airborne?: Yes
Damned right I would deck someone for coughing on me after I asked him/her to cover up. Of course I would be wearing gloves :-) - Rhendal, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3Yeah because spitting, physical contact and the possibility of bloodshed is way more sanitary than coughing without covering your mouth.
- whosmav, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2Haha...nice
