- TotalHalibut, on 01/05/2009, -2/+36Buried for Daily Fail. Stop digging this ***** please, it's a horrible tabloid.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -3/+27The Daily Mail is a sensationalist snot-rag, unworthy of your diggs.
- rikwakefield, on 01/05/2009, -2/+22Buried for Daily Mail.
- TopSlacker, on 01/05/2009, -0/+18Amen, it makes me laugh how the digg hive mind attacks fox news one minute but diggs the hell out of the Daily Mail the next.
For those of you which are unaware, the Daily Mail is the most right wing of the british papers which is full of sensationalist rubbish and it's editors supported the facists in the 30s and continue to publicise their racist anti-immigrant propoganda.
Don't put up with it on digg. Bury it! - jayrokk, on 01/05/2009, -1/+17Daily Mail = Buried
- Ragarnok, on 01/04/2009, -2/+18"Can you call my cell? I can't find it"
- dermoth, on 01/05/2009, -0/+15As with all anti-NHS stories in the media, readers should be aware that in the UK, the private health sector is almost completely unregulated, and is not required to publish any statistics on ANYTHING.
This has pissed me off for years, as I used to work in one of London's top private hospitals (frequented by sports stars, celebrities, and the odd minor royal), and the place was ***** RIDDLED with MRSA. But whenever "superbugs" were under the media spotlight, the reporting gave the impression that these things only existed in the NHS; "superbugs" presumably being far too proletarian to afford to hang out in private hospitals.
Again - the only reason why you don't hear these stories about the private sector in the UK is because the private sector is not obliged to disclose any information regarding it's *****. Don't get fooled, folks. - SealHammer, on 01/05/2009, -1/+15Daily Mail gets anti-digg.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+10I'll reiterate my point about the Daily Mail; PLEASE DON'T SUBMIT IT TO DIGG!
It's a slanderous, hate filled piece of *****, that has the notable distinction of being the most hypocritical paper in Europe, thanks to it simultaneously, thanks to it "defending" children from paedophiles and child abusers, whilst lying about the MMR vaccine. Thanks to the Daily Mail's campaign about the untrue and unfounded allegations that the MMR vaccine would cause autism, vaccination rates dropped to below 80%, well below the recommended 98.5% for measles. As a result, there was an epidemic in Britain, and at least 50 children died. And by visiting, or submitting the site, you are generating income for these *****. So please, don't let the Daily Mail get on Digg. - TopSlacker, on 01/05/2009, -0/+9I love our NHS, Americans which are against any sort of national health care service just don't know what they're missing and spend far too much time listening to Fox informing them it's 'socialism', like that's some kind of swear word. Ugh.
- Deschain420, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8I'm willing to chance it for free health care.
- cloudberries, on 01/05/2009, -1/+9Yeah, god damn those doctors. Everyone would live longer if they'd just stop trying to operate on people.
- cloudberries, on 01/05/2009, -1/+9Two million people can't be wrong! Unless they're Daily Mail readers.
- cloudberries, on 01/05/2009, -0/+7"How can a doctor leave "packaging material" inside a patient? What does that even mean??"
It means that the doctor left packaging material inside a patient. Or maybe it doesn't mean that, it is extremely vague. - smallanditalian, on 01/04/2009, -2/+9Doctor, I've had this odd off and on ringing in my ears since I had brain surgery 2 weeks ago.... but it sounds like the Mexican Hat Dance.... should I be concerned?
- Lavarock, on 01/04/2009, -3/+9Oh, it's in my butt. DON'T hang up. DON'T HANG UP........ Damnit.... went to voicemail.
- Fuckmypooplease, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6No..Two million people aren't informed.
- Zalian, on 01/04/2009, -2/+8Now that's a lot of surgeons needing to take memory pills.
- warriorscot, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6Because it doesn't happen in the private US health system.
Oh wait it does. All the time. People just get more money for it over there. - Angostura, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6"Doctors are like the 2nd? or 3rd biggest cause of death"
[citation needed] - maccoup, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6After coming home from an abdominal operation i noticed that quite a large lump had developed,i was rushed back into hospital where to the NON surprise of the surgeon 3 illeagle immigrants that had once been posing as fully qualified medical staff jumped out of my abdomen wealding huge lumps of MRSA and asking for political asylum,a 6 bed mansion paid for by the tax payer and a job that you cant get fired from nomatter how incompetant you are in the government with an index linked pension.
- Angostura, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5My guess would be that, for example there was a plastic cover over a scapel blade designed to keep it sterile until use. It would be quite possible to remove and then drop it.
- thecosmicpope, on 01/05/2009, -1/+6Seems I gave Diggers too much credit. The Daily Mail? Come on! You guys are better than that.
- roddack, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4I bet this happens a lot less in Africa too...what the hell is your point?
- Ursad, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4Wait till you go to a airport and walk though the metal detector..
"Sir why is your chest beeping?" - TopSlacker, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4This article is about the British NHS, not the Canadian one. Don't confuse the two.
Fine by me if you want to pay thousands of dollars for your healthcare, I love the free NHS :D. - benhasek219, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3I don't get why we americans are so against socialized medicine. Our current system sucks...maybe time for something new???
- EyeDoc, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4This is nothing new! Why does this rag report it?
But any opportunity to recommend a classic!

[citation given] or do a google search - LukeBeaumont, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4Get off your moral high horse. People make mistakes, whether they are insignificant or big.
- babylonian, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Hahaha, the article reminded me immediately of this ***** amazing scene from The Ten:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtcbVUNO1NY - tavallai, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3I dunno about in the UK, but in the US, the small towels used by surgeons are woven with metal so that they show up in X-rays. Why? Because they're so often left inside the patient.
This is nothing new, and I rather the patient/provider incur the cost/inconvenience of having the second surgery than never being able to get the care in the first place. - Hefelumpman, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Your satire was ruined by your awful spelling and punctuation.
Sorry. - jbmcb, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2I saw a surgery on one of those Discovery Health shows, at the beginning and end they counted all the instruments, towels, bandages, etc... to make sure they didn't leave anything inside. I'm not sure if it's standard procedure, but sounds like a good idea.
- 3Den, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Ever leave a tool sitting somewhere in the engine compartment of your car because you forgot? Perhaps it fell and you didnt' see it?
Now.. instead of a car, it's soft tissue with lots of folds. There are multiple people with their hands in there.. and going poking around just to see if you left anything could kill the patient.
it's entirely understandable that mistakes are made. - Charlesbian, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2so why dont you grab a spare receptionist, and have her sit in the operating theater with a whiteboard keeping track of what you put in the patient, and cross em off when you take them back out. pay her 20$ an hour. 100$ extra a major surgery isn't going to cripple a hospital, and much better than a 2mil lawsuit. Hell even make the receptionist get a certificate or some "degree" for it so all the liability rests on her if ***** does happen.
- mwalker05, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2you would think they would keep a tally of the tools and things they are using. 5 clamps in, 5 clamps out, etc.
- TheAuditor, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2"Well if it isn't my old friend Mr. McGregg — with a leg for an arm and an arm for a leg!"
- daridave, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Bah. I'd deal my surgeon, pretend to forget something in me, I give you 25% ...
- filovirus, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Someone can't count.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3Ignorantized Comment
- idontlikeyou2, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1Those researchers aren't dumb enough to know the difference between negligence and natural cause death. Are you sure that your flashy webpages never gave anyone seizures ?
- notadiggtard, on 01/05/2009, -2/+3That's why Canadians flock to the US for procedures constantly. There are more MRI machines in Cincinnati than all of Canada. Two year wait for hip replacement.Ours can be improved(and it does need it)without going socialist.
- Barackalypse, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2As a taxpayer I'd rather they pay for it themselves both times.
- idontlikeyou2, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2That wasn't my point. We're technological advance enough to take some major steps in health care technologically that can remove or at least minimize the "human" error factor. But There are research studies that find the majority of GP don't practice clinical evidence, so yeah, you statement have some truth to it.
- scamper22, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1checklists are beneath doctors. As is hand washing.
- waspbr, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1sorry to brake it to ya, but this happens pretty much everywhere, socialized medicine or private.
- scamper22, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1What moral high horse?
What's next, a person accidently fires a nuclear weapon is just a mistake? No, there's a reason why it doesn't happen. People take the right precautions and process to make sure it doesn't happen.
There is 0... and I mean 0 excuse to leave surgical equipment in a patient. It is not an accident, it is brute negligence. A simple checklist taking 1 minute to complete would solve this problem. - TonyTheTerrible, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2operating theatres...
