- halo969, on 11/29/2008, -2/+16Lab tests revealed I had a vitamin D deficiency a year ago and I've been taking 1000 UI daily ever since. I noticed that it helped improve my mood and alleviate pain I had in one knee. I read an article recently where they asked a handful of doctors what supplements they took daily and the only one that was consistent across the board was vitamin D. It seems to have many benefits.
- FI5HERMAN, on 11/29/2008, -0/+11I am no authority on vitamins as such yet I believe too many folks in the modern world rely on pills and quick fixes & the sun is more important to life in general than we all realise.
- orangederange, on 11/29/2008, -3/+13More and more doctors are recommending and prescribing Vitamin D supplements. I think we'll be hearing more news about Vitamin D in the future.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -0/+8Milk is NOT a good source of Vitamin D, especially from "Feed-lot cows". Think "free range" liver and herring for vitamin D. Michael Fox probably used sun-tan lotion to stop lines and wrinkles forming, which BLOCKS the Vitamin D-producing UVB rays.
- porygon111, on 11/29/2008, -1/+9I fell down a well, and the sun only reaches me directly for a few minutes each day. Should I be worried?
- inputoutput, on 11/29/2008, -0/+8Go outside more often. It can't hurt.
- JohnDo, on 11/29/2008, -0/+7They don't call it the Sunshine Vitamin for nothing.
- Culero, on 11/29/2008, -0/+6Vitamin D? Where we're going, we don't NEED Vitamin D.
- alex7575, on 11/29/2008, -0/+6That's true, but at the same time, one of the ingredients to creating vitamin D in our bodies are UV rays, which also happen to be incredibly damaging.
That said, I grew up without knowing what sunscreen was, we would just burn till purple and then let the melanin do the rest. One time it was so bad, I slept in the bathtub filled with water.
LOL, now we're all afraid of everything under the Sun. - psyduckie, on 11/29/2008, -0/+5My grandmom always said a little sunshine on your skin every day was good for ya. Of course, she was a nudist. lol
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -1/+6I have used NATURAL Vitamin D (as D3) 1000iu daily with Methylcobalamin (a form of B12) 1000mcg daily, to COMPLETELY REVERSE the nerve damage caused by my Multiple Sclerosis, another auto-immune disease.
It costs a few pennies every day, unlike the old regime of immunosuppressive drugs which cost thousands of pounds a year to treat me and had awful side effects into the bargain. However, remember that BIG PHARMA is not interested in cheap, natural treatments, NO MATTER HOW EFFECTIVE. - neilk85, on 11/29/2008, -0/+5yes they are but be careful on your dosing and regimen. Vit. D is a fat soluble vitamin (along with K, A, and E) so it builds up in your body and can become toxic if too much is built up (unlike vitamins B and C which are water soluble allowing excessive Vit. B and C to be lost through urination).
Btw another common vitamin to take is Vit. C as it helps in collagen synthesis (keeping your skin taut and warding away wrinkles) and makes a tremendous impact improving your immune system. And vit. C is water soluble so there is no danger in taking 500-1000mg daily to improve skin and immunity (fyi those Emergen-C drink mixes and other cold relief products often are nothing more than 1000mg of Vit C and other additives/herbs) - Charlotte_Web, on 11/29/2008, -0/+4At least you have internet down there, so you should be fine.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -0/+4yeah go get a tan you pale ass *****
you still owe me fifty - FOcast, on 11/29/2008, -1/+5"shown in studies to be important for a healthy immune system, preventing & even reversing cancer, as well as strong bones."
Vitamin D prevents and resists strong bones? Looks like someone meant to use a semicolon... - atomic811, on 11/29/2008, -0/+4Sun FTW!!
- spectecjr, on 11/29/2008, -0/+4This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Vitamin D has been shown to reduce your likelihood of catching flu viruses. Studies in Mice show that Influenza Type A, if it passes the blood-brain barrier, makes a beeline for the dopa nigra (the area of the brain which is broken in Parkinsons) and NUKES it. Ergo, if we join the dots, Vitamin D will help with Parkinsons because it's really the influenza that causes it. QED.
- megagram, on 11/29/2008, -1/+4Or hang out enough in the sun? He is kinda pale...
- alex7575, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3Vitamin D is the only vitamin produced by our own bodies, all other vitamins need to come from food sources. Vitamin D is produced by the skin.
Wiki Wiki Woah:
"...one form of vitamin D is synthesized in the skin with the help of the natural ultraviolet wavelength of sunlight. Humans can produce some vitamins from precursors they consume. Examples include vitamin A, produced from beta carotene, and niacin, from the amino acid tryptophan." - TigerStar337, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3The other day there was article on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/diet.fitness/11/13/ ... "Experts weigh in on which vitamins to toss back or toss out". All the "experts" take Vitamin D.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3Are your well climbing abilities and TV controlling abilities compromised?
- mrboratsagdiev, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3There IS a DJ Vitamin D; been around since the mid-90s in Denver.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3just get 20 minutes of sunlight each day. or move to Hawaii. as long as it's not a sunburn, tanned skin is best.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3My chronic low back pain has gone, halo, and I have also noticed that I no longer have sensitive teeth (this can be a symptom of deficiency). It is involved in calcium and magnesium metabolism and helps prevent both osteomalacia (bone softening) and osteoporosis.
- earthnatures, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3its the first blessing we see, when we wake up
- TheMachine1, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3The 400 IU in milk is trivial compared to the 25,000 IU you could get from full body exposure to summer sun in 30 minutes.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2In an English winter, we don't see the sun for weeks on end :^( so I take Vit D supps., 1000iu daily, and never get a cold or flu, even though my co-workers go off sick every five minutes! It is also involved in mood elevation and cholesterol metabolism. No wonder the Scottish (who no longer eat their herring and oatmeal every day, preferring Deep-Fried Mars Bars), have the virtually the highest incidence of Coronary Artery Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Melanoma and Parkinsons Disease anywhere in the world.
- jcsoc, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2or eyes
- flangepiece, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2Yeah, what a choice. Cancer or brittle bones. We're doomed. DOOMED.
- alex7575, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2I'm not going to need vitamin D at Dirty Joe's?
- RealDealRick, on 11/30/2008, -0/+2Vitamin D insufficiency is also being investigated in MS as well as other Neuro disorders. Sorry, I have no references but if you Google I'm sure you'll find plenty.
- jhnsnp, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2so where can I invest in this, Vitamin D?
- earthnatures, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2its a practice in my country since i remember, and take a fresh air do some exercise, and i may consider here in china as well chinese people go out from 6 to 9 am,just to have a sunshine hugging their strong body, natural slmplicity of nature is very good for every human body,so try to discover and take good care of it
- beauley, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2For many centuries doctors or "medicine men" have treated some individuals with varying diseases of different severeties, some for most of their lives. Many were never cured of their ailment, probably due to improper medicines prescribed for their particular infirmity. There must be a better way.

Disease Prevention Is The Key - Amadeus2490, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_D
- mhelal2, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1Crap I suffer from sever lack of vitamin D.
- komink, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1for me.. just wake up in the morning and moring sunlight will create my vit D.. its true?
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1Why don't we need Vitamin D?
- wh3873, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1I'm reading a book by a Neuroscientist named Read Montague called why choose this book. The book is about computational theories of how the brain makes decisions. According to his and others research, dopamine acts as a critic signal to alert the brain when something is better than expected. In this way the brain can decide to act on the things that are better than expected for its goals. As it is explained in the book Parkinson's kills dopamine receptors and a lack of receptors causes all choices to have the same values. All things being equal the body makes the most efficient choice of not moving. I've not read anything that would explain how vitamin D would play a role in Parkinson's and this seems most likely to simply be a correlation to not being outside much (as stated in the end of the article). Ethier way I recommend picking up Dr. Montague's book.
on a side not fix the jumping text box it's killing me - kd4ttc, on 05/08/2009, -0/+0Hmm. I wonder how being a spiritual healer allows special understanding of viral etiologies. The viral spirit, no doubt.
- eRenee, on 11/28/2008, -9/+9Are you implying that Michael Fox didn't drink his milk?
- alex7575, on 11/29/2008, -2/+2Why do people capitalize vitamin? Throw in a title while you're at it. MC Vitamin B in da haus!
- GlobalHealer, on 12/19/2008, -0/+0As a Spiritual Healer, I have discovered about 10 years ago that, as you suggest, the likes of Parkinson's and Altzimer's appear to be caused by a virus similar to a DNA corrupting type such as Influenza.
- Chainheart2, on 11/29/2008, -3/+3And then the doctors from the other aisle tell you to avoid doing that..
- newms32, on 11/29/2008, -2/+1A huge number of researchers aren't involved with the pharmaceutical industry and they still haven't shown vitamin D to be a magical MS cure. Immunosuppressors however have been shown effective by many studies. It's not all some massive conspiracy to keep the sick people down, the evidence is out there.
- nextbrett, on 11/29/2008, -3/+2I think - it sounds like link bait to snake oil...
Why do these whack jobs use these channels to instill fear (Correlation is not causality!) and sell "natural" as something that's intrinsically better. (i.e. Check out their wonderful review on effective diet pills.... yeah right)
Get out now! and watch the door doesn't hit your ass! - newms32, on 11/29/2008, -3/+2More NaturalNews crap, how about we stop patronizing this fraud of a site? This article is benign but many other ones are dangerously wrong pseudoscience. The books they review and advertise are scams. Check it out, turns out the root cause of most disease is...dehydration:
