- Barackalypse, on 11/09/2009, -0/+12Great, now my employment is a pre-existing condition!
- LPhilM, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10We needed a study to discover this?
- growvideos, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10I should have my supervisor read this.
- elijahyossie, on 11/09/2009, -0/+9I have a problem, I can't refuse to meet the boss. She's a total bitch, but I'm self-employed.
- numberneal, on 11/09/2009, -0/+9so now you could refuse to meet with your boss on the grounds that your are bad for my health.
- removesstains, on 11/09/2009, -0/+6If your boss has Narcissistic personality disorder like my boss does. Having him read this article isn't going to change anything. Which is why i just avoid mine when i can and never laugh at his jokes.
- blackinthmiddle, on 11/09/2009, -0/+6I'm surprised they needed a study for this.
About seven years ago I worked for a large pharmaceutical company and had the absolute boss from hell. I'm a programmer and she was a director who somehow got her job although she could scarcely add an attachment to an email. What's more, she *knew* she didn't know her ***** and therefore compensated by being a super bitch. The ***** she did was legendary.
o I didn't see this one personally, but my direct manager told me about a meeting where she was stressing out a guy so much that his nose started to bleed right there!
o Another worker in another department (we used to go to lunch all the time, so I knew him) used to be an amateur bodybuilder. He even showed us pics of him competing. He was transferred to her department. Within three months of working for her, he was on blood pressure medication for the first time in his life.
o She once deducted money from a *salaried* employee for showing up late. When this same employee (the manager in the first bullet point) mentioned to her that during that same period there were two days that she worked over 14 hours, the bitch (and I *rarely* call women bitches, but she more than deserved it) responded, "But you're a salaried worker. You don't get paid overtime." (!!!)
o The guy I was taking over for (who was extremely smart) landed up getting an ulcer working for her.
There are more stories like this, but I'll cut it here. Long story short, I was fired after only six months because I actually challenged this bitch. It was the best thing that could have happened to me all things considered because it got to the point where I could feel the constant stress of the poisonous environment affecting me. - theOster, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5take a lesson from Office Space - "it's not that i'm lazy, bob. it's that i just don't care"
- taibo, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5Anyone could've told you this. Bad bosses = more stress, and stress = heart problems.
- GothAlice, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3I can confirm this. I was recently brought to emergency with arrhythmia due to work related stresses (made more profound by my… wonderful employer) catching up with me. It took nearly a week of bed rest (while I was hacking away on my computer) for my heart to return to normal.
- winmywii, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3This sounds like every salaried job I've ever had.
- SuperStromboli, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3And unfortunately, still not covered.
- VsAcesoVer, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2Just ask Stanley Hudson
- growvideos, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2You are so right... I wonder if we work for the same company!

anything that increases stress, increases cortisol, and reduces immune response.

And guess what: Cortisol may also be in the food you eat if the animal was treated poorly. - bonertime, on 11/09/2009, -1/+2Then work for a rich boss instead.
- pyromcr, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1look at united airlines...
- zbeast, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1Bad bosses can kill, be that via stress... I had a co-worker go home and blow his brains out over this job stress.
I had a summer job that I quit. in 1week... the last person who had the job died of a Heart attract.
Most middle managers will who have bad upper level bosses usually drink themselves to death...
A friend of mine had a boss who OD'ed on Cocaine trying to dealing with the stress from his directory. - teamgwho, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1MILF - Manager I'd Like to Fire
- bagelmaster, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1Haha I have told my boss this on several occasions. It's funny to see his reaction usually he just manages to say "yeah...well...you should."
- wertach, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1Ditto, Poor Bosses in the title sucks. It should be ***** bosses.
- RK5000, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1No,no, no, you will not die, Stanley! Stanley you will not die! Stanley! Stanley! Barack is president! You are black Stanley!
- thurows, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1File this under "Really".
- iptunnell, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1This is a bit overblown. Outside of the few extreme cases, stress is generally a derivative of how a person responds to different situations based on their previous experiences. Yes, a boss can contribute to your stress... I've had more than my fair share of bad ones (some REALLY bad). However, I've learned through their mistakes that I should not let them dictate how I feel about anything they do. Just assess the situation, decide what to do about it and move on with a good attitude. Take all situations and look at them as learning opportunities, whether good or bad, and you'll find that your life is much less stressful.
- Saprta, on 11/09/2009, -0/+0If this is the case, I would have been dead long ago.
- appleseed1234, on 11/10/2009, -1/+1Bad news for all of the douche bags who go to business or law school when they realized they don't have any other special skills.
- BossKey, on 11/10/2009, -1/+1"Study Finds Poor Bosses Cause Heart Attacks, Sickness"
This must be why corporate America insists on making sure our bosses are unusually rich.
