- geminitojanus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+51) You basically don't have to worry about this if you have properly functioning kidneys.
2) The only MRIs you need to worry about are ones with Gadolinium dyes, but it's not only MRIs you have to worry about. Gadolinium is used in special kinds of X-rays and CT scans, and PET scans.
3) This condition is rare: numbering in hundreds of cases in 10 years (out of billions of people, and hundreds of thousands of MRIs performed every year). The FDA has linked around 200 cases worldwide to Gadolinium-based dyes.
So that's where the science is now. It very well could be some kind of genetic intolerance to gadolinium, it could be a few batches of gadolinium dyes weren't as well screened as they should have been. Either way, this article is ultra-lame, as it's more-or-less an advertisement for a law firm, and fearmongering. You've got a better chance of winning the lotto than contracting this illness. - mitydog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What the heck?! How come all this always comes out after I just had my tests?
- everetts, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2This is only if they inject you with the Gadolinium (spelling?) dyes. If it's just a normal MRI without having that stuff injected into you then there is no danger. But still, this is a HUGE deal for the MRI industry and for anyone who needs one because NSF is some scary stuff.
- SAEJO, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2That's scary.
- Littlemomma, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I'm glad I don't neet one
- ganjadude4391, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Freezing joints is a good idea. It will keep them fresh until you are ready to enjoy it!
=D~~~~ ahhh - nopinkos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Adding to everetts' comment, it has also only been proven in cases where the patient had kidney problems. Still, pretty scary!
- noelabelle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Holy Crap. You don't read that on the consent form.
- JorgeHurtado, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0This is frightening!
- ComeByChance, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0I wonder how many doctors even know about it? Educate your doc if you have to get an MRI!
