- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21maybe this explains why women seemingly age faster than men
9/10 women are stressed out spazz time bombs - KnightMareInc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10not surprising, too much stress is simply deadly.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Yeah, like you use your jewels more than your brain.
- Katen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Why do you equate crankiness with stress?
- stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Or, perhaps, instead of it.
- Araya213, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Then my brain must be fat and young. Even during the hardest times I am unable to get stressed, kinda like the guy on Office Space. It's a wonderfull life, ***** gets rough, just chill!
And no, I don't smoke pot :) - braingilbreath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4benefits: less food for zombies.
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well, whenever I'm in a stress I'll get my Brain Training out (aka Brain Age in US). ;)
- Opiuman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its important to note that the article indicates that exercise can prevent/reverse this process.
However, it doesn't say if it is due to exercises' relaxing effects (dopamine released after adrenaline) or some brain regenerative effects that I'm not aware of. - Katen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah, I noticed that to.
I also like the statement that "a combination of psychotherapy, cognitive behavior therapy and pharmaceuticals could actually change the brain and restore it." There isn't much left in the psychology cure-it toolbox after psychotherapy, cognitive behavior therapy and pharmaceuticals...but we'll down-play the exercise possibility.
I dugg this because it's an interesting article, but I wish someone would have cited it from somewhere other than TV news site. Reports are a little dumbed-down usually. And they cram too much information into a 500 word report. For example, the ends of chromosomes are called telomeres, and it would be nice to know more about the not-cited study about the "aging" immune systems of women. Is that the case in men too? (Which I suspect it is.) Or did they have some reason for only doing a study involving women? - dmoney22, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6liar.
- ellenweber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It often amazes me how few people ralize the genuine dangers of stress to the brain and the body. This new research will help to win more people to the power of a stress free mind - hopefully.
Brain Based Business - shitthisfook, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4This article directly conflicts with this one: http://digg.com/health/Older_and_Cranky_May_Mean_Smarter
Old and cranky = stress, yet it means smarter?
Stress = Shink and age your brain? - dagonweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well have a load of fun with a society based on stress. Plus how about a few hundred thousand combat vets ?
- fjacky66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Send more brain`s...
- MystyRayne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You got that backwards, Bucko. Men in fact age faster than women.
- oliviaguildford, on 04/10/2008, -0/+0Reading this article it really doesn't surprise me one bit that being consistently stressed can have such a negative impact upon the brain. I myself spent many years under severe stress and anxiety, and panic attacks. I'm blessed that I still had a big enough brain to think straight and get myself sorted before it shrank to the size of a wallnut, I guess!
For those looking for help on coping with severe stress, anxiety and panic attacks, I do have a website with some solid and practical information - the very same I used to drag myself out of my nightmare with. Anyway, you can view it at http://www.squidoo.com/coping-with-anxiety
Thanks for a good Digg, it's really opened my eyes to the true extent of the damage stress can cause! - lukrobin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hi, Another thing that counts is eating right,
http://digg.com/health/Tips_for_healthy_eating - Lutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This actually brings out an interesting subject, if stress is indeed dangerous for your brain, shouldn't weed be good for your brain since it decreases stress?
- nickhodge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1you guys know me too well :-)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Will stress help with my Brain Age game? I'm stuck at 29 years.
- KenMo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I blame Bush
- mc1123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1the first time I played that I got 80.
I'm really fourteen. - irrationalman, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0haha...i agree
- nickhodge, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Phew. I thought it might shrink the size of your "old fella"
Brain I can deal with. "Family Jewels" shrinkage is something I cannot afford.
