Learn the 10 Rules of Fat Burning. - TheFoshizzler, on 10/10/2007, -8/+25The "always looking for someone to blame" is a really good point. Every friggen fat person I know is NEVER at fault. At all. Ever.
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Don't make fun of my mom :(
- Darkhowling91, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Damn you Hot Pockets and long raiding nights with World of Warcraft. I gained 25+ pounds on my WoW addiction.
- BowieX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Problem is, that's NOT it! If you are fat, you also must VERY GRADUALLY reduce the total energy you consume AND the deficit between energy intake and output, otherwise your body will think there is a dangerous shortage of food around and (after temporary weight loss) will actually begin to store EVERYTHING POSSIBLE as fat, leaving you weak and instinctively unable to resist food.
Not only that, but, the point of the article was that to focus on doing this, you have to really WANT to do it, deep down, and for the right reasons -- long-term reasons.
If you are fat and unhappy, if you are addicted to WoW and hot pockets and get a buzz only when you play computer games or use the internet, then it will come back to haunt you majorly, and late-life depression will viciously exacerbate the problem. And it is your fault.
It took me so long to find the courage to say that my own body is my own fault. My lack of health is my fault.
Motivation is key. Why do you want to be healthy? Ask yourself. - Cravitar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12My favourites are the obese who claim its genetic. Somehow in the last 30 years a quarter of our population has evolved an obese gene. Its like bloody x-men around here.
- Ghoztt, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13What!? Eat right, exercise and actually lead a healthy lifestyle!? P-p-p-reposterous! I can shove Big Macs down my pie hole while sitting on this couch and lose weight! I mean pff, why do you think I ordered a DIET COKE!?
- MosaicM, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12I know a lot of people who hardly eat at all and are fat, obese fat even. Thats because they don't exercise enough and some DO have health problems. But it's never as easy as "Just stop feeding yourself like a pig", ff it were that easy, many people would.
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Blasphemy! You spew lies you heretic!
Bbuurrnnnn him! - gl77, on 03/31/2008, -0/+9hmmm i just ate 2 quad stackers and a large fry from burger king last night right before i went to sleep.........i burned it off by working out in my dreams.
- thephosphorbox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7As horribly formatted as that article is, the guy does have a point. I found out a few years ago that I couldn't lose weight and keep it off unless I changed my outlook on eating. I was one of those people who jumped on the Atkins bandwagon and lost about 50ish pounds, not really realizing that Atkins wasn't teaching me how to eat properly. Over the next couple years, I gained it all back, and then some.. I stood on the scale wondering why like an idiot.
I finally got fed up a few months ago. I knew I couldn't go back on Atkins again so I started looking for a new "miracle diet". Thankfully, a friend of mine caught wind of it and sat me down for a serious lecture. She didn't pull any punches and told me flat out that I would never be the weight I wanted to be unless I made some serious life-changes. As hard as they were to make, I had to do it. So here I am, 4 months later and 31 pounds lighter. Gone are the fast food and fatty desserts.. my life consists of portion-controlled low fat/high fiber foods with a lot less meat. Instead of a diet, I changed my lifestyle completely. I feel better, I look better, my mental state has changed. It was easily one of the best decisions I've ever made. I can easily maintain this lifestyle for the rest of my days and never feel like I'm missing out because now I know HOW to eat the things I want.
You CAN eat "non-healthy" foods.. but instead of eating a 10" x 10" square of lasagna, cut it down to a 2" x 2" :) - Trails123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8There are a myriad of medical excuses that people in the West use to explain being overweight or obese. Then, they demand some miracle pill to fix them. Funny, there doesn't seem to be an epidemic of thyroid disease in Biafra!
And now we have invented terms that make being overweight sound glamorous. She’s not fat; she’s a Big Beautiful Woman (BBW).
People just have it too easy in contemporary society. Modern inventions have substantially reduced the amount of calories one burns in the daily grind of life. I know people who drive three blocks to the local fast-food chain. Automation may have made life easier, however, there’s a down side; lowered activity = weight gain. All the more reason to exercise! This is not rocket science; take in more calories than you burn and you gain weight.
It kills me when people say I’m skinny, when in fact, my BMI suggests that I am about a pound away from being overweight. My solution to controlling weight gain is simply riding my bicycle as often as is possible. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10That was terrible.
It was written by a retard
with really... clunky... and weird formatting.
Like this. - 2reflective, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Remember the diet industry is not there to tell you how to loose weight - it's there to keep you endlessly searching for new, more expensive, dieting methods. My tip: Buy a good digital scale and weigh yourself every night before you goto bed. Once you can see the numbers rising and falling yourself, you'll quickly find the incentive to cut down when required.
- mbelleghem, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Incisive. Great read, thank you.
- MewTwo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I love chocolate
- rockefeller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Don't worry, it will catch up with you. And when it does, you'll wish you were back in your currect state where you could eat anything you want and not gain a pound.
But if you really want to put weight on, go get some protein drink mix and start lifting heavy weight at the gym. - Jozer99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Does this article remind anyone else of the article on bad IIRC personalities last night?

- SuckMyDigg, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9You insensitive clods. What about us guys that can't gain a pound no matter how many double quarter pounders and puddings we eat? How do you think we feel?
- Takfam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Nope, I'm fat as hell and its completely my fault. Its not because we live in a fast food society or today's foods have soooo much high fructose corn syrup (contributor yes, but not at fault) or because the $ per calorie ratio is skewed in America. I am not fat for any of those reasons. I'm fat because I love(d) to eat.
I don't love to eat anymore, but my pet peeve now is these ***** people that simply say "Just lose the weight, just take the fork out of your mouth." I'm doing that already, *****! It took the better part of 20 years for me to reach this weight, don't think that taking the fork out for a few months is going to drop me any more than about 20lbs. Real, constant weight loss that sticks for life is a process you think in terms of months and years, not days and weeks. I'm responsible for being fat, I'm going to be responsible for losing fat, but if you're breathing down my neck about it every goddamn day I'm also going to be responsible for your broken nose. - Chordinator, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I see what you're implying there.. You think I'm fat, and that offends me.
Well, I do have a party in 4 days so I'll be visiting www.thinin4.com if anyone needs me. - bubba9999, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5That article was painful to read because he couldn't get to the point soon enough. Here's a one sentence synopsis: Change your attitude to lose weight.
- fprintf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Need a medical solution? Is that the answer for everything?
If we look at the rates of obesity over the years/centuries we would discover that it is a relatively recent trend. This means that it is not a disease brought on by nature. It is instead, the changes in our environment - whether that it what we eat, mostly processed foods, the exercise we get, typically very little, and to some degree who we know, those who hang out with fat people tend not to have as much motivation to change.
If we look back to the late 19th century and early 20th century most people worked fairly physical jobs, had to walk a considerable distance each day, and due to the expense (either physical or monetary) of getting food ate relatively little. If we go further back before the industrial revolution look at the work a woman had to do -- laundry by hand on a rough board, manually preparing food, walking to the well to haul back water, stooping to gather eggs from the chickens etc. So I say it is 99% our own doing.
So the solution is clear to me. Reduce the intake of food and get more exercise. If you are too fat already to exercise the weight off, see a Doctor as they have some pretty good programs (not surgery!) for gradually taken the weight off that you took years and years to put on. Some people who are somewhat lighter weight, but still quite heavy for their height (200+ pounds), have committed to a low impact exercise regime - cycling. You can read how these hundreds of people are thoroughly enjoying their fitness program, though not necessarily the diet, by visiting the Clydesdale/Athena forum at http://www.bikeforums.net -- direct link: http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=248 - IllBeBack, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7"Just stop feeding yourself like a pig." If it were that easy, many would do that. Obviously, you have never had to do something that completely changed your lifestyle. I am certain that you would experience a high degree of difficulty "just doing it." You should try having some empathy instead of defaulting to hatred.
- Promantarius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You might just be underestimating how much energy you consume in a day. The metabolism video here shows some confusion between people where they thought they ate the same amount and were different sizes, when in fact they were eating different amounts of food: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/humanbody/truthaboutfood/flashapp/nonflash.shtml
- jstrahn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It is a shame that fat people are so guillable. They've made people like Atkins and Jenny Craig rich. These people all know that it's about eating less and exercising but instead they sell you ***** gimmicks and you fall for it.
- LowRentDiggs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You really think quarter pounders and pudding is the way to gain weight?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3hey, i'm 85 kilos/1.90 m and I know what I'm talking 'bout :)
though I must agree that motivation is highly important, simple things like "eat less/move more" are still working - fieldmill, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Dugg down for stating the bleeding obvious in the tone of a self help guru.
- Tweekster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3muscle does not break down to fat.
that is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. - hollismb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Dugg for "The sooner we stop getting in shape for 'events' (weddings, birthdays, reunions, parties) and start getting in shape for life... the sooner we'll start to see forever results." Because it's true that a lot of people think that way.
- YourMom1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why the hell aren't you running ad-block?
- roberto_deneero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You don't have to give up eating, dude. Just stop eating so much at once and make better choices.
- tracker1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I would say I'm about 85% to blame for my size.. the rest is a combination of hereditary traits (bad knees etc., unable to get sufficient exercise).
- ripple123, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Dont insult our intelligence. Of course we bloody know that. Just because its simple doesn't mean its easy.
- HarryBauzonia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It can get you laid.
- Trails123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Don't worry, even you can loose weight if you try! lol
- IllBeBack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually, many have tried this, and it has been proven to be entirely ineffective.
- sv650touring, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Oh, I work my tool alright. So why am I still a fatty?
- rockefeller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I agree with the BMI comment. At 5' 10", to be in the middle of the normal range, I need to be about 150. I'm about 160 now and starting to resemble a holocaust survivor. I used to be about 180.
I've exercised with many people who say they can't lose weight and the problem is that they don't push themselves like they should. If you want to lose weight, you need to push hard. If you feel a little pain in your knees, keep going. You're body will adapt. But it won't be easy. - JAG731, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Apparently. Google --> ddr +cardio
- catala99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That we are lazy and look for our less-effort way of living it is just natural. Tell to your dog or your cat to eat less. We are just a little bit more intelligent, but our animal instics still play a basic role.
It is like if you want to fight agains your sexuality. - LowRentDiggs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That's easy to say but a lot of people dont' understand why they eat like pigs. It's all science and, once you understand it, it's a lot easier to eat well.
- SuckMyDigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Okay, so google ads have caught up with the TV and radio ads. The next step is to actually provide relevant WORKING products for people who would want/need them.
- dacheetah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm 72kg and 1.97m tall, and I assure you I take in more energy than I burn. (I'm pretty sure I have developed a physical addiction to chocolate for a start.) Metabolism plays an immense role, and I happen to have a very fast metabolism. People with a very slow metabolism can eat healthy, excercise plenty and still put on weight. Getting to a point where they have a balanced intake/output of energy, while at a healthy weight is not exactly an easy thing.
- ronaldinho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You have to say that either the fitness industry is smart in cashing on people's impatience, or people are too dumb to realize that most things take time. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A MIRACLE PILL!
- ChoclatOverlord, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2eat less. exercise more.
