- Lucas123, on 11/09/2009, -0/+39Halliburton and KBR (a former subsidiary of Halliburton) are at the heart of the lawsuit. Why am I not surprised?
- danconia, on 11/10/2009, -0/+26Corporatism at its finest.
- burrdugg, on 11/10/2009, -0/+14While questioned by reporters about the contractors pollution, Cheney accidentally shot his assistant in the face.
- ZaZ2137, on 11/10/2009, -0/+11I wouldn't doubt them exposing 'expendable assets' to all sorts of toxins and wanking off with the money they made doing it.
- Starsurfer56, on 11/10/2009, -0/+8Good thing they didn't get raped because then they can't sue the companies right republicans?
http://digg.com/d317euS - ALiberalMind, on 11/10/2009, -0/+7"I don't want to see a single war millionaire created in the United States as a result of this world disaster." --FDR. Halliburton should be tried for war criminals for profiteering over dead soldiers.
On another note there is a bill meant to address the issue, but it has no co-sponsors.
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111 ... - macmcraeart, on 11/10/2009, -1/+7we need to get the hell out of both of those ***** holes. we have wasted too many lives and too much money.
- algaeturd, on 11/10/2009, -0/+6Isn't this the hallmark of American conflicts?
Everyone is all gung-ho to support the troops until it means putting your money where your mouth is whether it's to ensure they get the care they need at the VA hospital to deal with post conflict injuries (mental or physical).
I was against the Iraq war from the very beginning but I find it sickening that people I know who supported the war seem to not have a care in the world about what happened to the men and women who went over there and came back with problems. - kolop1, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5When will they learn, Money comes first.
- pintomp3, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4Aren't you glad we keep privatizing more of the military functions?
- stlouispete, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4I would have thought this would go straight to arbitration
- MWeather, on 11/10/2009, -1/+5Because nobody else got to bid on the contract?
- dillonflynn, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3In a related claim, some soldiers are alleging that war zone contractors also exposed them to bullets.
- overridemymind, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3From your article:
"Editor's note, 9:57 p.m. EDT: The White House has issued the following response to this story, attributed to White House National Security Advisor James Jones:
'Reports that President Obama has made a decision about Afghanistan are absolutely false. He has not received final options for his consideration, he has not reviewed those options with his national security team, and he has not made any decisions about resources. Any reports to the contrary are completely untrue and come from uninformed sources.'"
So, still no official decision on the war yet. - Senorchili, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2***** retarded man
they shouldve shot the fatass business men - quirkopatra, on 11/10/2009, -1/+3Not sure if the soldiers have a case when it's the military determining the necessity of burn pits and where to put them.
- RentalCanoe, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2I wonder how much money Dick Cheney made off his Halliburton stock?
- jj101, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Really tough call to make. Always is when trying to handle another mans *****. Thinking long and hard can only be a good thing, especially seeing as it was complete lack of that that lead us here in the first place.
- Lefts, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Those unpatriotic bastards. How dare they question--
Oh, ***** wait a second. - Atario, on 11/15/2009, -0/+1I don't get why we keep calling them "contractors" and not "mercenaries".
- Nhmarine, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1If only there wasn't waste to burn.
- inactive, on 11/10/2009, -3/+4Obama is going to commit an additional 40K troops to Afghanistan.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/11/09/world/ma ... - jj101, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1The things is we made the play now, especially in Iraq. To leave the country so ***** when before we (and being from the UK I mean every country that supported this stupid war) got there it was so much better for the average citizen will just provide fuel to extemist fire forever more. We have to find a way to fix it, if its even possible.
Before anyone starts bitching about what a ***** Saddam was its worth noting that under him there were at least schools, hospitals, electricity, transport services, libraries etc. I'm sure the average Iraqi was a thousand times better off then. The whole country is now in the stone age, comparitively.
We did that. If we leave without making it right we will never be allowed to forget it. - theNazz, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1Now that Haliburton is based in the UAE instead of the USA good luck ever getting a full investigation completed.
Thanks Dick Cheney! You're a great American... *****. - katana0182, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1The sort of low-temperature combustion of military waste in burn pits that's going on here can easily create all sorts of really, really, really nasty stuff in the smoke coming off of it. Any time something with carbon and chlorine and and hydrogen gets burnt, the molecules get rearranged. Unfortunately, some of them get arranged into dioxins. Dioxins are not fun stuff at all.
But what can one do? The trash needs to be disposed of. Having some sort of incinerator that goes with a unit might make sense, even for now, an expedient sheet-metal contraption that has some sort of secondary air induction (e.g. a solar powered blower) to burn off the evolved volatiles and a stack height of 20 feet or so - or something like that - would be better than nothing. One could probably rig it up using scrap metal and some welding in any sort of encampment that's going to last more than a few days. Wouldn't cost much either.
Hopefully they'll find something, because the sort of junk that comes off burning chlorinated plastics is not what our soldiers should be breathing. - Nintendesert, on 11/10/2009, -1/+1I'm not sure if KBR etc. are the ones responsible for this, they are just the latest goat and the ones with the deep pockets. What the soldiers are claiming those is absolutely correct, the ***** burned in there is everything and anything in those burn pits.
They are rancid disgusting and scary things. Depending on the wind, the smoke can be pushed out over the camps. I had to drive through that ***** often in Iraq and tried to always hold my breath as long as possible when around the thickest parts of the smoke. It probably didn't do much good.
I'm sure we'll be seeing more health related problems from the smoke there in the years to come, when ever bird in a camp dies over night, there's something in the air. - zroy, on 11/10/2009, -2/+1Dugg for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
- Yage2006, on 11/10/2009, -3/+1Toxins in a warzone ?
