- shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -5/+54i don't understand...juice is way better than soda, especially at breakfast time....
in Australia we have a sort of a hybrid (fizzy juice)... - SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37"... I'm in good shape though at least, well skinny but at least not a lard. :)"
Being skinny does not mean you're in good shape. You could still have high cholesterol, heart disease, etc.
As for having soda for breakfast...I like my teeth. I'll stick with OJ thank you very much. - ray901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32@SpacemanSpiff
"As for having soda for breakfast...I like my teeth. I'll stick with OJ thank you very much."
You should know that OJ has as much sugar in it as soda does. Check the side of the container tomorrow morning. - stiankarlsen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33***** that.. take care of yourselves and eat healthy, drink healty, work out - stay in shape.
- trer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Does anyone drink plain ol', reliable Water anymore?
- Zoctogon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27I haven't drunk soda in months. Next time you feel like drinking some, just try and visualize the heaps of sugar in the bottle. The only reason you are able to drink so much is because it's masked by the phosphoric acid. Without it, you'd puke it back up... Disgusting.
- kludger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Say hello to Coke's good friends, obesity and diabetes. Cripes.
- mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I used to drink several cans a day. I stopped drinking soda for about a year. I decided I'd let myself drink it again, but all that sugar and caffeine (and god knows what else) all at once makes me sick now. I can barely finish a can now.
I'm really glad I decided to abstain for a year............ although you can have my coffee when you pry it from my cold dead hand. - imsoclever, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19Whenever some one says Pop, it just sounds like it's straight out of another era.
Hey, you want to go steady with me? We could go down to Moe's and share a pop. It'll be swell! - matriculated, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Mmmmm. Coke and runny eggs!
- jocnnor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12If you're holding coffee, your hand will probably be warm. Unless you've been dead for a while, or have a well insulated cup. Either way, your coffee is mine.
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@MrSidnet
You're forgetting that almost all American Sodas don't use Cane sugar... They use "High Fructose Corn Syrup".
Disgusting stuff if you ask me. - underthelinux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10kegs n eggs.
- ohcoaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Also: sodas containing phosphoric acid like Coke also contribute to osteoporosis.

- troyounces, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I was in the US a few weeks ago, and I was amazed at how many little fat kids I saw at the mall. Something is wrong when an 8 year old kid is obese! I was thoroughly disgusted. The visible minorities are not the asians and the african-americans -- the visible minorities are the good looking slim people.
- raynar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9what's breakfast?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I used to mix OJ and 7up. Good stuff. But NO MORE! The wife got me a coffee pod machine for Christmas. :)
- capiCrimm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8sprite + OJ = wife haunting
Sprite + Orange Juice = screwdriver substitute
screwdriver = alcoholic
alcoholic = me
I don't even think they sell non-alcoholic drinks here in Milwaukee. As to the guy who pops a pill, they now have genetically engineered chickens that produce medicine instead of egg white. Maybe you can have your coke and rummy eggs after all. - Lane5slacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@mateo60
Yeah, same here. I stopped drinking pop a while ago. Now, I can't finished a cup of that stuff without my stomach hurting and me feeling like crap the rest of the day.
100% juice and water for me! - MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Just make sure you get the real juice, not "juice cocktail" which are mostly sugar and water.
Also note that the sugars in juices are natural; they are not bleached and refined like the sugars in pop.
And all the caffeine and other chemicals in soft drinks are often absent from "100% juices"
I should get a job selling juice. - JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8How long before this country decides that Homer's stick of butter wrapped with bacon is actually a genius breakfast item?
- sideshowRAHEEM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Water?......You mean you can drink that stuff that falls from the sky.
- lotuseater, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I can't imagine waking up in the morning and immediately drinking a can of Coke. Disgusting.
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I love fizzy juice... at least, catawba (sp?) juice or Tahitian Treat/Grape juice with a little Sprite mixed in.

I haven't had soda in months either. I think that digg story from a while back about the effects of a can of coke on your body only added to my hatred for soda, so I have sworn it off entirely.
I only drink fresh OJ (Nice to live in Florida) in the morning. No milk or coffee either. All this food propaganda is getting to me... but I can attest to the fact I feel way better overall, don't gain any weight, and wake up much easier in the morning without all that sugar and caffeine in my system. - cyn0sure, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Yeah, this is just gross. I'm not a crazy health nut or anything, but the thought of putting some rot-gut sugary carbonated Coke in my stomach first thing in the morning just doesn't sound right.
- boberto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@ray
Looks like you are right...

http://www.dietfacts.com/images/nutrition-facts/2/24129.gif - therippa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6High-fructose corn syrup. Read about it. It'll kill you.
- Spikito, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Bawls ftw!!
- theturnmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6you know what is better than juice and coke? Water!
hooray for being healthy. - ksponge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah aspartame isn't good stuff.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I know somebody that drank nothing but soda since he was about 5 years old. One day he started puking in the car and had something wrong with his kidneys or livers. The doctor told him one of the biggest causes was his addiction to soda. He stayed off of sodas for about a week, but then started drinking them again, even though the doctor strongly recommended that he didn't.
- zanestone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Tea is a good alternative, iced or hot.
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I don't get it. Usually in the morning coffee > soda. On a hot summer morning juice/water > soda. On a hangover morning lots and lots of water > soda. Every single drink is better in the morning than soda.
- jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Many mothers skip the milk or juice for infants and go straight to sprite. I've known todlers as young as two who drink only sprite. Single mothers who had single mothers who worked all day probably isn't the best system to train children.
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5...not just sugar but high fructose corn syrup which is actually worse for you than sugar. In most countries not named the USA they use sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I used to drink a few cans of soda per day, and recently I stopped. Once in a while I'll have a Sprite or something, but after a few months of no soda, Coke, Mountain Dew (my fav) don't taste the same. I haven't noticed any improvement or felt any better, but hopefully in the long run I chose the right thing.
- vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Because it's got electrolytes...
- johnham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Soda and Juice both have very high amounts of sugar. Juice has more nutrients, but in terms of making people fat they're basically the same.
The donuts and bacon do that for you. - RationalBeaver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Sugar related deaths. I'm picturing someone sprawled on the floor, tongue stained a blueish-green, surrounded by empty Pixy Stix straws and spilled packs of FunDip...
- milhouse007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The last 5 months or so, I've been drinking green tea for breakfast, I get my caffeine without any sugars, and I started feeling better after doing it for a couple of weeks
- sigsegfalt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"My breakfast often involves two 16oz diet Rock Stars and a 20oz coffee."
Holy crap. You might actually be less of a morning person than me. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5yes, white sugar is bleached. if you want natural/raw sugar, look for turbinado sugar (which is tan-colored):
"Raw sugar has a yellow to brown colour. If a white product is desired, sulfur dioxide may be bubbled through the cane juice before evaporation; this chemical bleaches many color-forming impurities into colourless ones. Sugar bleached white by this sulfitation process is called "mill white," "plantation white," and "crystal sugar." This form of sugar is the form most commonly consumed in sugarcane-producing countries."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_cane - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Really, get a life. Don't define yourself as a "Diet Coker"...I'm sure you have more to offer then an addiction to a chemical known to have wicked bad side effects. Why not tout fen-fen while you are at it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My parents wouldn't allow me drink any soft drinks until I was 13 or 14. Besides milk and water, we were only allowed fruit juice (no "sugar juice"). Since then, I hardly ever consume them because I find the sugary taste disgusting. The only one I can really drink is Diet Coke, and then only at the movie theatre.
I cringe everytime I see a parent feeding their young children Sunny D, Pepsi, Orange Crush, fruit punch, and all the rest. - sfrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Calorically speaking, the various types of sugar in any food are equal (soda, fruit, milk, breads).
However, chemically: fructose != sucrose != glucose
Each sugar has it's own unique purpose, and biochemically, these sugars are not the same thing. Fructose, while sweeter than glucose, has a lower glycemic index, which results in a smoother, more regulated blood sugar level. Sucrose is a completely different animal in that it is even different chemically, and will be broken into fructose and glucose by the body, through hydrolysis.
