- Araxen, on 11/30/2007, -6/+116Brothels should be legal throughout the United States. It's a woman or man's right to choose how they spend their money.
- zeromancer, on 11/30/2007, -6/+84i never understood why prostitution was illegal in the first place. i'm sick and ***** tired of laws being made on behalf of some peoples' morals. and i'm even more sick and tired of sex being such a cliche thing in america. if it wasn't, then 12 year old girls and boys wouldn't use it as a rebellious thing to do. we have such a problem with early teen pregnancy because kids know how much sex bothers their parents, so they do it to piss them off. same with drugs. american society pisses me off.
- epj3, on 11/30/2007, -1/+54Fact: Only Dwight Schrute talks like this. You never talk like this. Fact: You are drinking grape soda. You never drink grape soda.
- glmory, on 11/30/2007, -1/+42"There's been a lot of sex in Nevada for the past 20 years and still, the brothels have a 100% track record in preventing HIV. Put that up against the 2004 HIV outbreak in the porn industry where four actors tested positive. One of the four was a woman from Montreal who told the production that she would not perform anal scenes without a condom. Upon arrival to the set, she was told to leave or perform sans condom, with anal. Needing to pay a VISA bill, she went ahead and flew home to Canada HIV positive. "
So, one industry has infected 4 people, one zero... It sounds to me as if both industries have an amazing track record on this subject, considering the porn industry unsafe for 4 infections in many years is pushing things. The porn industry has quite good standards, and when they are followed correctly no one gets HIV. Compare this to the estimated 1 million Americans who picked up HIV, mostly by unprotected sex... - ApokalypseNow, on 11/30/2007, -0/+38And who they screw, as long as it is legally consensual!
- zeromancer, on 11/30/2007, -1/+37that has nothing to do with morals. that has everything to do with being a victim of a crime. tell me. who is the victim in prostitution? who is the victim in gambling? who is the victim when i get high? all of these things are regulated by government because people disagree with these acts based on their morals. and they are all victimless crimes.
- Bahimiron, on 11/30/2007, -2/+38...yet my porn star girlfriend is still pissed at me for all those Nevada whores I banged.
- fantasticFlan, on 11/30/2007, -1/+34And how they use their bodies
- pbaehr, on 11/30/2007, -1/+29Those laws are based on protection of another individuals rights. Victimless laws are a waste of time and often create additional problems by creating a black market.
- bwhite, on 11/30/2007, -1/+28Next stop ... Nevada
- WikiEasy, on 11/30/2007, -3/+30Digg is even safer...
- pintomp3, on 11/30/2007, -1/+23i would assume it's because condoms aren't always used in porn, and you don't have a lot of gangbangs in the brothels.
- DawningImage, on 11/30/2007, -1/+22The reason brothels are safer than porn movies, or even your average prostitute, is because (A) workers at brothels have to be tested monthly (bi monthly, once every two months, depending on the brothel) for STDs (making it safe for the consumer) and (B) condoms must be used at all times, the women are usually on some kind of birth control, and they aren't alone in an alley (making it safe for the worker). I don't understand why other states don't allow brothels. People are going to go out and buy sex no matter what they do. Why not make it legal and safer. It makes sense in my mind.
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -5/+26I don't think bukkake w/ 100 strangers is safe at all.
- svartgotik, on 11/30/2007, -0/+19You pay for sex regardless. Directly or indirectly, that ***** is never free.
- DMCer, on 11/30/2007, -0/+18Why is this surprising? Condom-mandatory brothels are safer than "drinking semen from someone's ass" porn sets? Who knew?!
- jexdawg, on 11/30/2007, -1/+19Rape and murder harm, prostitution does not.
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -3/+19This just in... stealing needles from the dumpsters of medical clinics are safer than sharing needles with homeless junkies. People everywhere react indifferently.
- mozzep, on 11/30/2007, -0/+16it's not strictly a matter of "choosing how to spend one's money," it's more a matter of victimless actions and consenting adults. What if I wanted to spend my money to hire a hitman? surely that should be illegal.
- satanatnmtedu, on 11/30/2007, -0/+14Go figure. Most, if not all, brothels require the use of a condom for all sex acts. The are more condoms used with coitus in porn, but I have yet to see on used for oral sex.
- alexanEmpire, on 11/30/2007, -1/+14Alright.....who let the mormon into Digg?
- psykiv, on 11/30/2007, -0/+12Leave it to digg to bring up microsoft windows in a discussion about STD's and prostitutes.
- ozid, on 11/30/2007, -1/+13to the bunnyranch! we riiiiiiiide!
- spyd3rweb, on 11/30/2007, -0/+11Registered Companions ftw!
- garf12, on 11/30/2007, -0/+9What do you mean how will they tax it? It will just be like any other legal company pays taxes. Stupid question.
- ScottyMcBaggs, on 11/30/2007, -1/+10Or cause it, you know, FEELS GOOD?
- chihsuanmen, on 11/30/2007, -0/+7Sex isn't a cliche thing in America, if it was then it wouldn't be such a rebellious thing to do. I think the word you're looking for is taboo. We can thank our Puritanical forefathers for that.

- shakestheclown, on 11/30/2007, -0/+7Spare me the Lifetime drama, Tori Spelling
- fantasticFlan, on 11/30/2007, -0/+7Just what happens in Vegas, everything else is filmed for private distribution.
- Pinkertinkle, on 11/30/2007, -0/+7Dr. Sharon Mitchell is one fake ass doctor.
- shakestheclown, on 11/30/2007, -0/+7watch out, your straw catches fire easy...
- dondara, on 11/30/2007, -1/+7Totally. There is 0% chance of catching any form of STD. I mean, what are you going to catch from a virgin?
- bigteebo, on 11/30/2007, -1/+7With the porn industry, you have a fixed # of people schtupping each other, all with regular disease testing. If everyone's disease free, no diseases get spread. If one infected person goes on a sctupping spree on sets, it spreads like the latest Windows vulnerability, naturally.
In brothels, it could be any John off the street with or without diseases, bringing in an X factor. But, there's condoms. - Xelseragoth, on 11/30/2007, -1/+7You need to spend more time with teens if you think they are just having sex to piss off their parents... Drugs I agree with a lot, occasionally sex, but for the most part they are doing it because of hormones/peer pressure (although I hate to use that term).
- Governator88, on 11/30/2007, -0/+6"The porn industry has quite good standards, and when they are followed correctly no one gets HIV."
True but they could still get one of the other 30 or so STDs by not using a condom. - dontaskagain, on 11/30/2007, -0/+6Not just in the USA either. There's well known brothels here in the UK which the police turn a blind eye to. They know it's better to have a subtle out of the way building supplying the demand than have women walking the streets (potential victims for nefarious people).
If they are to allow it here i wish they would make it legal if only to maintain the standard like in Nevada. - qualish, on 11/30/2007, -0/+6So we should legislate that decision for them?
- andregriffin, on 11/30/2007, -2/+7Shhh, what happens there, stays there...
- lydecker, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5A sore elbow?
- Zippo, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5"you diggers"
Keep in mind, you're also on digg, Mr. "nutsackninja". - inactive, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4Let them decide for themselves, shall we?
- 15thPD, on 11/30/2007, -1/+5You've been trying to convince your wife to use condoms? Sit down, we need to have a talk son.
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4Only people from Reno will get this bro... good try though.
- Gerz1219, on 11/30/2007, -1/+5If your community decides that black people have to sit in the back of the bus, does that make it moral? The individual's rights, which are concrete, trump those of "the community", which is a very nebulous and subjective concept.
- codered1322, on 11/30/2007, -2/+6No way, God would be sooooooo pissed.
- ellecon, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4Regulating prostitution protects prostitutes from contracting diseases, prevents Johns from spreading these diseases, takes money out of the pockets of organized crime, and stops underage girls from being pimped out on the street.
I feel sorrow for the prostitute who contracts a disease, but I feel worse for the wife who contracts the same disease unknowingly through her John husband. I may have an opinion on whether selling sex is a good choice for adult women, but it's safe to say that prostitution is definitely a bad choice for a 12 or 13 year old girl. I think most logical people would also agree that government-regulated industries provide safer working environments for their employees than criminal gangs or pimps.
People need to get over sex. Why be embarrassed about something that almost all adult human beings do in some form? Some people like it more than others, and some people want to sell or buy it. So what?
