People who are very nervous before a big speech are probably more likely to abstain from sex just before the speech, just because they don't feel like doing it. So maybe it's not that they're more nervous because they didn't have sex. It's that they didn't have sex because they were nervous. The only way to actually test the theory would be to randomly assign people to have sex or not have sex before their speeches.

The sex probably is a result of endorphins that are released that make you happier and more likely to be more calm and thus less anxious over the speech.
