- njb444, on 11/04/2009, -2/+17Pfft, science...I'll stick with prayer. /s
- inactive, on 11/04/2009, -1/+8Big Pharma didn't make the breakthrough, the Georgia Institute of Technology did. RTFA.
- nekokyu, on 11/04/2009, -0/+6WHY ARENT WE FUNDING THIS?
- Manguskahn, on 11/04/2009, -0/+6I wonder if this kind of enzyme could be used to treat MS patients. Scar tissue in nerves are what cause the paralysis and numbness associated with Multiple Sclerosis, and though it wouldn't exactly solve the auto-immune aspect of the disease, it may help more than conventional drugs.
- homer524, on 11/04/2009, -0/+6tell me more about this 'prayer'... it sounds amazing.
- njb444, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5It's this process by which lazy people try to get what they want by thinking about it really hard.
- Laminarcissus, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5Wow, the research that needs to go into jokes these days...
- sputnikv, on 11/04/2009, -2/+6there's plenty of real things to be afraid of... like super aids. that's right, a new form of aids resistant to drugs. just one teaspoon of super aids in your butt and you'll be dead in 3 years
- rossisdead, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3Don't worry, I got your joke
- Shiftyeyedgoat, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3I was a biomedical engineer '07 at Georgia Tech, and was taught by Dr. Bellamkonda.
Very cool to see him in the news for his research. - Nubli, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2lame, I was hoping for the jar of marmalade instead.
- fasda, on 11/04/2009, -1/+3who do you think gave the professor the grant money for the research it's sure as hell not the university, I'd bet there's some government money (I'll bet on DARPA) but bio technology companies and pharmaceutical companies probably gave a lot of money too.
- Laminarcissus, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2I am never making a joke on Digg again.
"Laminarcissus, it was difficult to determine at whom your parodic prose was aimed, but were you to again attempt to contribute I would implore, nay beg, you to consider the assumptions under which you construct your comedic premise..."
You people...Christ Almighty. - jmdwinter, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Amen, brother njb444. These heathens will all die painful, Godless deaths as they worship at the altar of their false deity, 'medicine'. Repent ye sinners!
- inactive, on 11/04/2009, -1/+2@fasda: Big pharmaceutical companies probably did help fund this, it doesn't mean they were the ones who made the breakthrough. By that logic, I could put in five bucks to fund the LHC and then say I was directly responsible for discovering (or disproving, or neither) the Higgs Boson.
@Larminarcissus: It was hard to tell whether you were making fun of Big Pharma or healthcare reform; but either way, it gave the impression that some massive pharmaceutical company came up with this on their own. People seem to think that pharmaceutical companies come up with all these medical breakthroughs; when (from the little news about such things I've seen, at least) much of the time they just commercialize the discoveries of the academic community. - mattsull, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1The Secret?
- Nubli, on 11/04/2009, -1/+2is it like the super devil?
- anonymousmedic, on 11/04/2009, -1/+2No, he just forces you to commit adultry.
- iknockindeboots, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
- Gir53457, on 11/04/2009, -1/+1lol i troll u
- hoodedrobin, on 11/04/2009, -1/+1its "repent all ye sinners" and im pretty sure its from the Devine comedy.
- damnshoes, on 11/04/2009, -2/+1Science 1123483573 and GOD 0
- bkurilko, on 11/04/2009, -5/+2Meanwhile, scab-eating 8 year olds still not helping anyone.
- Laminarcissus, on 11/04/2009, -14/+5Once again, Big Pharma cynically cashes in on the sick by making medical breakthroughs that may cure spinal cord injuries in our lifetime.
Someone should tell them that the sick can't just be bought off with cures!
Socialism!
