wear a condom for ***** sake - spriggig, on 01/24/2009, -21/+119Women need to be taught from a young age to demand contraception from their partner.
Men need to be taught from a young age that resisting contraception is unacceptable.
We all need to get over our prudish attitude toward sex.
All forms of contraception should be provided free to anyone who asks for it. - ChristBehemoth, on 01/24/2009, -11/+94………………….._,,-~’’’¯¯¯’’~-,,

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/01/24/article- ...
"Official foreign looking gypsy Lucy Lanelly, 19, is destroying the moral fibre of this country. By unable to keep her filthy little gyppo legs shut, Lucy has been pregnant 4 times with four different men, each one living off benefits and unable to hold down a job. And everytime she murdered with the assistance of the money haemmoraging evil NHS. Despite this, she still claims housing benefits, from your hardworking taxes, and lives in the North, officially making her scum.
Reports suggest that she may also be the reason you may get cancer before the age of 90, your house is worth less than it was 5 years ago, why it's no longer the 1950's where people were moral and decent people, and may be linked to the death of the Queen of all our Hearts, Princess Diana." - inactive, on 01/24/2009, -13/+74DAMN YOU PEDOBEAR!!!
- Mejogid, on 01/24/2009, -12/+72I'm pro-choice in the sense I think a potential mother should be allowed an abortion when, for example, she has been raped, contraception failed or any other reason for an unexpected pregnancy. However I'm worried by the sort of culture of carelessness and disrespect for life that these figures seem to indicate - irrespective of what rights you consider a fetus to hold, I think it's crass at the very least to see abortion as an alternative to contraception.
While I think the bible-bashers against all forms of abortion are unrealistic and unsympathetic, people who are willing to kill someone/thing, which is at the very least living and related to them, without sufficient guilt to take a bit of thought before getting knocked up again should be sterelised. I realise that sounds extreme, but frankly anyone that callous and cold deserves it. - blackbeard42, on 01/24/2009, -15/+63Will people please stop listening to the Daily Fail
- Wade, on 01/24/2009, -3/+40A condom is the glass slipper for our generation. You slip one on when you meet a stranger. You dance all night, and then you throw it away. The condom, I mean, not the stranger.
- boxlight, on 01/24/2009, -3/+29pregnancy #1: "at 12 after a single encounter"
#2: "to busy seeing friends to think about [contraception]"
#3: "so drunk she didn't know what was happening"
#4: "boyfriend told her he was infertile"
Oh dear, what poor victim she is. Such excuses -- "it's not her fault!" Pathetic. - inactive, on 01/24/2009, -14/+39This is exactly what happens when people of faith get to decide the country's sexual education.
Pass out condoms to boys, and allow girls access to birth control pills. End of story. End of problem. - 029JO, on 01/24/2009, -9/+32Seriously: safe sex. At the very least people should be wearing a condom (not just for contaception, but also your own safety) and I just don't but it that you can be unlucky more than once or twice. It's not like we are living in the dark ages.
- KublaiKhan, on 01/24/2009, -4/+23If I may opine for a moment: kids don't have sex because it's forbidden and therefore "dangerous" or "cool" or whatever else. They have sex because they are instinctually inclined to do so, and because it feels good.
While I will certainly agree that education can only be a good thing, I have to disagree with the reasons: education won't make sex less common, but will simply incline kids to protect themselves better. It's not our "prudish attitudes" that leads kids to do the deed, but rather their own biological urges, and reviewing our attitudes will do nothing to affect the incidence of sexual activity. - BrandonEagan, on 01/24/2009, -8/+27Bradhart, you should take a biology class or at least read a dictionary before you start throwing around big words like "parasite."
- ElHeffe, on 01/24/2009, -2/+212 strikes and get your tubes tied!
- dlan4327, on 01/24/2009, -1/+19Wow. Nothing's too low for you, is it, Pedobear?
- btschul, on 01/24/2009, -0/+18Yes, because George Bush has a huge effect on sex ed in England.
- nzhamstar, on 01/24/2009, -2/+20i thought abortions were horrible to experience? Wouldn't that make one not want to have another one, and so be more careful...?
- Suricou, on 01/24/2009, -0/+16It depends on the timeing. The early abortion, first few weeks, is just mifepristone and prostaglandin - take pill, it's over. Up to two months is mifepristone followed by misoprostol - this is a rather less pleasant procedure, but still not hugely so - there is much discomfort and inconvenience, and some bleeding, but then it's over. Most abortions due to unwanted pregnency are done by that point - not all, there are many cases of women stalling for personal or family reasons, and even of women who remain in denial. After that it gets increasingly surgical - the infamous suction machine becomes involved. The longer the wait, the less pleasant it is.
- ripple123, on 01/24/2009, -2/+18You, sir, win the thread.
- Mejogid, on 01/24/2009, -2/+18@wallace321, bradhart2
What you said might make some sort of sense if it wasn't for the fact that the mother's body creates the "parasite", with part of its own DNA, and then adapts to pass nutrients into it through an umbilical cord. Alien wasn't a documentary and you don't sound intelligent. - Wade, on 01/24/2009, -0/+15It's from ***** Fight Club, man.
- seanovan, on 01/24/2009, -5/+20Alcohol parties? Where the hell are you from? "Many" men are not rapists.
- warriorscot, on 01/24/2009, -1/+15I always thought they were free? Hell they give them out by the shopping bag at the health centre.
Doesn't really add much burden to the manufacturer or the government the things are ridiculously cheap to make its a case of pennies each if that. The cost of one abortion buys a whole crapload of condoms. - jamesmcm, on 01/24/2009, -13/+27It's the Daily Mail - they're a very conservative UK tabloid and so probably Pro-Life. They're worse than Fox News.
- AdmiralJimbob, on 01/24/2009, -3/+17I (UK) know more than a couple of girls who've dismissed the risk of pregnancy with "eh, if I get pregnant I'll just get an abortion". In those words. And in a completely casual, disinterested tone.
I'm as "pro-choice" as anyone, and it sickens me that the option of termination is being abused by people with such a complete disregard for... well, what they're actually doing. I don't know what should be done - I wouldn't want any child born to a mother like that - but steps should be taken to stop, as you say, abortion being used as a method of contraception. - ripple123, on 01/24/2009, -9/+22we dont have a problem with this. its the trivialising of the reasons why girls have abortions, by calling it a "lifestyle reason" reason that is the problem. But then, I guess Daily Mail readers are used to trivialising women.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 01/24/2009, -1/+14Perfectly accurate analogy? You're a moron. It's not a parasite. It's the very, very early stages of a new person. Period. Don't bicker about "Well, maybe not SCIENTIFICALLY..." and that *****. A tumor? Are you a total retard? How often do tumors become people? We're talking about the natural process of reproduction, fa chrissake! That "tumor" or "parasite" is a means of continuing the species!
I don't think abortion should be illegal, but this kind of ***** just smacks of a very revolting justification for why it's perfectly okay. - dn11, on 01/24/2009, -6/+18can some UK residents please explain to the dumb ass Americans that continue to digg the daily mail what a piece of garbage it really is please? my fellow Americans seem to think it is a real news source, seeing as how it continuously gets front page status... I highly doubt it is due to loyal British readership
- KarlH, on 01/24/2009, -7/+18Obligatory tasteless Digg comment: "OMG! It didn't die the first time! Kill it with fire!!"
- bubba24689, on 01/24/2009, -1/+12That is unbelievable. You didn't even read the article did you? Idiot.
- Goombellaofgoom, on 01/24/2009, -0/+11Then, when you want to find that man you met at a party last night, just go around to all the guests and make them try it on...
Eeeeew. I don't like this analogy. - IRaphy, on 01/24/2009, -1/+11Well, to be honest this story isn't suprising. The CDC here in America released a report last march that showed 1 in 4 teenage girls in America have an STD. I would only assume rates like that would be similiar in the UK and pregnancies would naturally be on the rise as well.
Very sad and I would only suspect that its only accelerating, we haven't been teaching these young girls that they are responsible for themselves and having abortions are despicable and should only be considered when life or health is on the line but instead we teach do whatever you want without fear of consequence or shame.
Shame and fear or consequence are very important and misunderstood (shame when you fail a test because u didn't study is great feeling because it helps you re-prioritize and change bad behavior) - irjamby, on 01/24/2009, -10/+20Someone needs to tie these girls' tubes.
- Irishsmurf, on 01/24/2009, -1/+11What. The. *****.
- TheBigSquid, on 01/24/2009, -5/+14If pro-choicers believe abortion is not murder then why do they have a problem with this? This might sound like flame bait but I swear it's not. I'm really asking.
- covertbadger, on 01/24/2009, -0/+9There's no such thing as 'reverse Darwinism'. You're assuming that 'smart people' should be selected for. That's your opinion - but natural selection has no such bias.
- crazymaster16, on 01/24/2009, -3/+12It's better to use contraceptives - its safer
- asbjorno, on 01/24/2009, -4/+13I agree with Hobbes24!
Unless you are an extremist, the world isn't black or white.
If you don't consider the fetus to be a complete human being, just try considering it as life. By today's laws you are allowed to kill most form of life for whatever reason. However, should you kill life just because you feel like it or don't care? It's like roadkilling animals just because you're to lazy and careless to take the foot off the gas. I think you can at least compare it to that, regardless if you consider it human or not. - inactive, on 01/24/2009, -1/+9The UK has a pretty well developed (and non abstinence) based sexual education system.
- azureskies88, on 01/24/2009, -7/+15I'll downmod him for grammar, but there's truth to what he (aces) says. These girls are not getting abortions because they are responsible (yes, there are rare exceptions).
Also, I'm as pro-choice as anyone, but the OP is right. - Stavrosian, on 01/24/2009, -3/+11The Daily Mail is nothing more than a fear-mongering pile of lies and exaggerations. They have a dartboard on the wall which rather than the numbers 1-20 features topics for their "journalists" to write about:
1. Vague moral decline.
2. Evil drugs.
3. Immigrants taking our jobs.
4. Immigrants claiming benefits (always make unrealistic cases out to be the norm so that your readership will believe that all asylum seekers, who actually live off less than £20 a week, are living in government mansions and being paid £100k a year)
5. Princess Diana.
6. Gun crime from black people.
7. Knife crime from white teenagers.
8. Token story about racism to make it seem like they care, and attempt to make people forget that this was the newspaper that supported the Nazis (I'm not lying, they really did).
9. "What's wrong with these kids today?"
10. Princess Diana.
11. Vague outrage about the government.
12. Disavowal of experts on any subject in favour of unsubstantiated reactionary tripe.
13. Charles and Camilla
14. Editorial about why Margaret Thatcher is the greatest human being ever to live.
15. Princess Diana.
16. Violent crime on the rise (even when it isn't).
17. Made-up story about all children in schools being given A's to shield them from disappointment
18. Editorial about the Spirit of the Blitz and how the country needs national service back to keep the young toe-rags in line and defend us should we face another evil like the Nazis (quietly ignore paper's own Nazi history again, nobody will notice)
19. THEY TOOK OUR JOBS!
20. Celebrity fluff about society types, girfriends of Harry and William, footballers' wives.
Bullseye: Immigrants wearing princess Diana costumes funded by the state stealing overmarked exams from underperforming schools and selling them to knife-wielding kids in order to buy drugs from gun-wielding blacks who are ignoring our national culture.
Ignore it all. - narlilah, on 01/24/2009, -3/+11I agree, my friends get so drunk they don't remember who the slept with let alone if they used a condom. Binge drinking with teens is a really big problem here in Australia ,not sure about the UK.
- samhale, on 01/24/2009, -2/+10Completely right.
The Americans have an excuse not to know what Racist Right-wing propoganda this is.
The problem is that millions of Britons believe it. - DrummerDudeXT, on 01/24/2009, -0/+8On the issue of rape:
"I, having lived through rape, and also having raised a child “conceived in rape,” feel personally assaulted and insulted every time I hear that abortion should be legal because of rape and incest. I feel that we're being used by proabortionists to further the abortion issue, even though we've not been asked to tell our side."
- Kathleen DeZeeuw - Vash3001, on 01/24/2009, -4/+11Give an inch and they take a mile.
- covertbadger, on 01/24/2009, -3/+10How will you distinguish between 'genuine accidents' and apathy? At what point do you get suspicious? 2nd abortion? 3rd? Are you willing to withhold treatment from someone who was 'genuinely unlucky' 4 times because you don't believe them?
You might want to impose your morality on others, but fortunately you're not in power. If abortion should be legal (and yes, it should) then it must be unrestricted. - inactive, on 01/24/2009, -0/+7He would, but the first rule is you're not supposed to talk about it.
- number11, on 01/24/2009, -0/+7well my view on the daily mail is that sometimes they are right,
and most other times they get very little data on a certain topic and then blow it all out of proportion, sometimes they think they are talking the moral high ground when they are the ringleaders of hate,
It's not as reliable as the Guardian, Independant or even The Times, I prefer reading The Metro than the Daily Mail - pintomp3, on 01/24/2009, -1/+8This messenger is often a liar.
