- whoreable, on 04/04/2008, -2/+38Yes, sadly most people work out so they can post pics of themselves on Myspace.
- bobbysarcletti, on 04/04/2008, -0/+33it's amazing how often i've felt too tired to exercise but then afterwards feel completely energized because of it
- smitas, on 04/04/2008, -1/+24Nice write up on self improvement.
- JuiceofChampion, on 04/04/2008, -1/+23Great article, many people always forget about the long term benefits of taking care of your body. Working out is also a tremendous stress reliever and health benefit.
- n3demonic, on 04/04/2008, -1/+22I am the machine that works their inner thighs
- JLecker, on 04/04/2008, -2/+2311. Endorphins. I guess this would go with the "stress release" point, but it also helps when you're feeling blue.
12. Good-looking women in tight Spandex using that machine that works their inner thighs. I love the machine that works their inner thighs. - inactive, on 04/04/2008, -1/+20Reasons for working out that aren't for vanity are often overlooked. Thanks for posting this article!
- inactive, on 04/04/2008, -0/+18Dude stop dissing my dream!
- inactive, on 04/04/2008, -1/+16Anger management.
- dondara, on 04/04/2008, -0/+14Exercise fosters mental toughness. There is nothing you can't achieve when you are willing to get up at 5am just to go running every day rain or shine. It's about building good habits and making time to do what is good for you, not what's easy or comfortable.
- jessestorm, on 04/04/2008, -1/+15I started working out in my first year of University. Only this term (my 4th) have I really taken it seriously and have set myself a schedule that I stick to. Not only has my body improved, but I feel better about myself, I sleep better, I have more energy and I get sick less often. I haven't had a debilitating flu or cold since the beginning of this term (since Christmas basically), although everyone else in my family has. I feel a lot more comfortable talking to women, don't feel guilty about eating treats once in a while, and I even have increased my sales at my job.
Don't underestimate the benefits of working out! - TJ11240, on 04/04/2008, -1/+12Sweat builds up over time? First time I heard that one
- inactive, on 04/04/2008, -0/+9I've also noticed that if you eat healthy and have an active lifestyle. All you need is 30 mins a day which is nothing considering how much it improves your life. (starts work out)
- jcastillo81, on 04/04/2008, -0/+9I always hear "You don't need to work out/watch you eat you're so skinny!" as if the only reasons to work out or take care of yourself involve how you look.
- trogdor282, on 04/04/2008, -0/+8F that noise, just learn photoshop! ;)
http://www.officialdatingresource.com/dating/bewar ... - nyenyec, on 04/04/2008, -0/+6"your muscles produce testosterone"
I'm not an expert, but this is *****, so I stopped reading TFA. - StaticThunder, on 04/04/2008, -0/+5And let me add, I'm terribly sorry that you buy into pulp-marketing that says if a little testosterone is good, more must be better. Unless I was running short, which I'm not, I'd never want to produce more.
Testosterone is largely produced in the testes as a consequence of luteinizing hormone, released by the pituitary. Muscle tissue doesn't make testosterone in any comparable amount. Exercise can increase testosterone levels, through stimulating the usual pathway, but that, as I said, is a pretty sucky reason to exercise unless you're deficient. It stimulates cell division and increases your risk of various cancers, just like estrogens. - theneb29, on 04/04/2008, -0/+5I had the same question. Sweat does NOT build up, its a natural way to cool down body. I think what he was trying to say that sweat brings some of the toxins built up, esp those under the skin, out and it also clears the pores, giving you a fresh look.
- cambob76, on 04/04/2008, -0/+5I think he meant the crap in sweat. Sweating is a great way to get rid of excess salt in your body. Less salt = less bloatedness (you look skinnier).
- inactive, on 04/04/2008, -0/+5Admittedly, some people take it to obnoxious levels. But in general there's really nothing wrong with that. If it's hard to motivate yourself using health reasons, why not more "shallow" ones?
- DiggLive, on 04/04/2008, -3/+8I love mountain biking and I do it just for health, not for a body. I grew up always interested in exercise and Gym class was always my favorite time of day. That and after school Cross Country/Track practice. I never wanted to be what I saw in others, pure lack of energy and laziness. My parents were always saying things like, "You're going to bike ALL the way there?" and I simply said, "Yeah." Hah.
- TaintDeli, on 04/04/2008, -1/+6Good article. I'm gonna put down the mouse, close Digg, get out of this chair and go run a mile or five.
/yeahright - StaticThunder, on 04/04/2008, -0/+4Actually, I'm a molecular biologist. I think I have a passing knowledge, yes.
- stonklit, on 04/04/2008, -3/+7If "you will have a sexy body and can ***** whoever you want" isn't motivation enough, then all hope is lost.
***** LOL @ "sweat builds up over time" - no it doesn't. Sweat can't "build up" - it's what your body does when it needs to cool down. What kinda ***** is this? - Timmaay, on 04/04/2008, -0/+4Get a bit fat.
Start to hate the way I look.
Hit the gym with a vengeance for a few weeks.
Start to look noticeably better.
Smugly enjoy my new found vanity.
Lose motivation and stop working out for a few weeks.
Repeat from beginning.
That's something I can relate to unfortunetly.. - redhead82, on 04/04/2008, -1/+5Im naked for a living, so working out is essential...
- Narbo, on 04/04/2008, -0/+3I feel that being strong, fast and looking good naked are attributes that everyone should strive for.
- robeph, on 04/04/2008, -4/+7*sigh* seriously, when will people stop posting this nonsense "toxins" buildup *****. TOXINS DO NOT BUILD UP IN THE BODY, save for some heavy metals, but then you don't exercise and get rid of them, the body just doesn't work that way, seriously, only the homeopathic fools and that clown looking fruit cake klee irwin really believe that crap. The other reasons are valid however, and exercise is still good.
- chipperrocks10, on 04/04/2008, -0/+3You're doing a lousy job.
- nardo510, on 04/04/2008, -0/+3looking good is a good extra to though. You have better self confidence and people will most likely hire good looking people(if they have the same degrees) over ugly. Exercise is just good period.
- forgiste, on 04/04/2008, -2/+5along with a healthy diet you don't necessarily have to work out daily. You can do basic leg exercises twice a week and lower your cholesterol by as much as 40%. That's at least better than no workout at all.
- bmalnad, on 04/04/2008, -2/+5He's full of crap on that one. The overall message in the article is still good.
- cambob76, on 04/04/2008, -0/+3"Testosterone affects sexual features and development. In men, it is made in large amounts by the testicles. In both men and women, testosterone is made in small amounts by the adrenal glands" - WEBMD
- h4k0r, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2You sound like an uneducated buffoon
- tomtuts, on 04/04/2008, -1/+3Your bikini is my motivation too
- Kelpesh, on 04/04/2008, -0/+230 minutes a day of Batleth practice will provide you with a life time of success!
- sgvprelude, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2You don't need to workout. You just need lots of plastic surgery.
- StaticThunder, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2"I'd rather be an educated pompous ass than an uneducated buffoon." -- h4k0r
LOL, okay then. I didn't know you were complimenting me. - bubbadoo989, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2Nope, the amount of sweat you produce has more to do with hydration than the amount of time spent sweating. Let's say you have a strenuous workout in the morning, building up a good sweat. If you don't replace the fluids lost, you will not have much sweat later in the day, say during an evening bike ride up the canyon. You will be dehydrated.
Another commenter made a good point: perhaps the writer is talking about the build-up of toxins that are eliminated in your sweat. Not sure about that one though. - imLissy, on 04/04/2008, -1/+3I exercise every day because if I don't, I turn into crazy hormonal crying/screaming girl. That's my motivation :) That and my bikini.
- frogman54, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2For some reason, I read that headline and now I have Right Said Fred singing in my head. Crap. I hate when that happens.
- BabyWookie, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2Really? You think so? Did you actually learn any thing new from this article? I sure as hell did not. Then again, I have yet to read a self-help/improvement article that wasn't completely banal and obvious (to me).
- DoubtingThomas, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2WTF? "When you lift weights and gradually increase the level of resistance, your muscles produce testosterone. "
AFAIK only glands produce hormones, and testosterone is a hormone and muscles ARE NOT glands. Testosterone is produced in the male testes and to a much lesser degree in the female ovaries (and in small quantities, by the adrenal glands). Sorry, but I stopped reading right there. If you aren't going to bother to research the statements you make in an article, why should I even bother reading it. - StaticThunder, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2Chop chop! That cellulite ain't going to burn itself off!
- StaticThunder, on 04/04/2008, -1/+3Pics or it didn't happen.
- MWeather, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2"There is nothing you can't achieve when you are willing to get up at 5am just to go running every day rain or shine."
Well, nothing except sleeping in. - StaticThunder, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2How is saying increased testosterone in a healthy person is a negative thing elitist?
I really AM a molecular biologist. I'm only saying that because somebody called me an idiot. Getting a Ph.D. in this stuff takes work, so I think I've got some basic knowledge in endocrinology.
Why are you so insecure?
OF COURSE naturally produced testosterone causes baldness and prostate problems. Why the hell do you think men get them? More testosterone can only accelerate the process, just like taking inhibitors of testosterone production are treatments for both prostate enlargement and hair loss. - MWeather, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2You sound like a pompous ass. But that has nothing to do with the subject at hand.
