- MaxIsBored, on 08/28/2008, -1/+14With a massive Snoog tees ad right beside my comment, I must admit that breast cancer is amongst the worst of all.
- bmagill, on 08/29/2008, -0/+8My best friend is battling breast cancer at the moment, thank you for this info. I will pass it on to her!
- grmclaren, on 08/29/2008, -0/+6I am cutting and pasting the last sentence for those people who can't make it through the entire page.
"These are important but early results in mice - it will be interesting to see whether this can one day help the outcome of people affected by cancer." - PicklesNCheese, on 08/29/2008, -0/+5This makes me wonder if the implication of non-tumor tissue means that more women will opt for masectomies in the future?

- ginestony, on 08/29/2008, -2/+5digg users will never get cancer apparently. There's a new cure every week just about.
- Michiko280, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3I highly recommend the book: The China Study to everyone interested in preventing breast cancer.
- Thayer75, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2Um..if you read the article you'd see that the author is talking about a scientist who discovered a new mechanism through which breast cancer can relapse. By better understanding the mechanisms of pathology, researchers are better able to come up with ways to combat the disease. There is no talk of a magical cure. That's not the point of the article.
- atchon, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2some people are so ***** retarded.
- UbIwerks, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2Great to hear this stuff. My mom battled breast cancer twice when I was a kid. She's doing great now, but man, what an awful disease.

The No-Dairy Breast Cancer Prevention Program: How One Scientist's Discovery Helped Her Defeat Her Cancer by DR.Jane Plant
A scientist diagnosed with breast cancer saves her own life by reading scientific literature on her own. The upshot is she saved her life by giving up dairy and eating more soy - jagermeistr, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Another victory for second base

- Humpasaur, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1They relapse because they relapsed?
There is no information in this article at all. - ieee, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1One of the scientific theories about why soy reduces cancer risk is precisely because of the phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens look like real estrogens but are much weaker. They bond to the same receptor sites, thus blocking stronger real estrogens and blocking MUCH STRONGER estrogen like pollutants like insecticide.
Both books are written by research scientists. You can't judge the opinions written in the books until you read them. Just posting an anti-soy link is almost like doing that. No offense.
Nobody, not even vegans need to eat soy. It is very easy to get by without it. The important thing for avoiding sex hormone related cancers is to stop using dairy products.
You also need to be aware that soy is starting to compete with dairy and meat products........big money players. Both sides have a lot of money and are trying to confuse people with studies they pay for.
FWIW, I know people with relatives in Japan. It is a myth that they don't eat as much soy as Western vegans and only eat whole soy, low tech foods. They eat tons of processed soy and have been since WWII. - talltree, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1Radiation and chemotherapy both cause cancer, try finding another "cure" that doesn't involvve scorched earth tactics. Also people get cancer for a reason if they don't stop that reason they will get it again.
- ChesapeakeBaybe, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1While I have not read either book, I am very leery of soy. It is a plant-based estrogen and a suspected endocrine disruptor. It has been linked to infertility, food allergies, digestive problems and estrogen-based cancers.
Keep in mind that Asian cultures eat fermented soy. Most of the soy in the US is processed food and lacks the same nutritional benefits. Please, please be care.
See: http://www.utne.com/2007-07-01/TheDarkSideofSoy.as ... - ChesapeakeBaybe, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1Cancer represents a breakdown in the immune system and frequently the treatments, while preventing the disease, often weaken the immune system further. Survivors need to be especially careful of their diet and exposure to toxins. Would love to see some studies on the anti-cancer diet and it's effect on relapse and/or prevention.
- groo68, on 08/29/2008, -1/+1I was about to do that. I was just trying to think of a way to make it original.

- wavellan, on 08/29/2008, -6/+0CANCER IS A FUNGUS. JUST USE SODIUM BICARBONATE. That is the cure to Cancer. Ignore the "We are searching for a cure" BS and do what half the world already knows.
http://www.cancerisafungus.com/
From the book:
"At the moment, sodium bicarbonate (in a solution of 5% or 8.4%) is the only remedy capable of making the tumours disappear completely. In order to get the maximum of damaging effect, the sodium bicarbonate should be brought into direct contact with the tissue. This can be done by bringing a special catheter into the arteries that go to different organs, or by using the conventional endoscopic methods."
