    The emergence of the pig flu is a natural occurrence and it is the product of the pig being simultaneously being infected with the bird and human flu at the same time. This leads to genetic reassortment and it produces new strains of the flu. From just a random mutation, it resulted in this flu being able to infect humans. Usually swine flus don't.

  • inactive, on 04/26/2009, -1/+8No, I just saw that 3 news report and as per usual, it wasn't true. "Swine Flu confirmed in NZ" they said. "10 cases confirmed" they said but then the expert said no, infact 10 cases of influenza were confirmed, that's NOT to say they're Swine Flu.

    It's also winter here, they just got off a flight from a warm climate (Mexico) - Thousands of people get flu and flu-like symptoms after long flights between hemispheres. Flying from 30 degree C heat to 10C cold seriously ***** your immune system up. Chances are it's nothing special at all. Of course anyone entering the country from Mexico with a runny nose is going to be considered a candidate

In Mexico, many people are not as educated in terms of what illnesses are (microscopic fauna) and how they mutate and propagate, particularly in poorer regions. It is common practice to eat a pig that has died of illness as well, so that may be a factor.
