- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -3/+69$25,000 bond. Human life is so ***** cheap. Let this bitch survive at 43 lbs while she rots in jail. And she did this to her own kid. Disgusting.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4443 pounds is like, what a 5 year old weighs.. revolting.
- CanadianAviator, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38Maddonkey, you have some serious issues.
- Propapanda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Anyone else find it cute when people try to play Grammar-Nazi like the grownups and fail miserably?
- bbrosemer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25That is terrible...
- davidjunit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27"Developmentally disabled" woman was unable to feed herself because illegals "took 'er jobbbb".
So is "RETARDED" a bad word now? If the kids at school start randomly calling each other "developmentally disabled" will we have to create a new more PC term for the condition? rofles - lazydrumhead, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23first definition of "weigh" on google:
to have a certain weight.
therefore, "weighing" is not only correct, it is super-correct. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15This whole world deserves to go to hell in a hand basket!
In the last six months a read how
1.children are being molested, while people watch on the internet.(that happens all the time)
2.a mother killing her baby by microwave
3.a mother grabbing her baby by the legs and hitting her boyfriend with the baby, cracking the babies skull.
4.a mother putting her baby in a box and throwing it in a lake
5.a mother putting her baby up on ebay
6.parents leaving there baby in a car with the windows up,killing the baby.
It goes on and on.....what the hell is wrong with the world? - Carbito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1543 pounds = 19.5044719 kilograms
...for those of us outside the US - Craga89, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16If that were true then most of the worlds events, including what you just typed, _never_ happened.
- MasterChi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13If you want to see pics just look at a recent pic of Paris Hilton, she's about 50 to 60 pounds so it gives you a rough idea of what this girl looked like.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9this is just disgusting.
also, how on earth is she still actually alive if she weighs only 43 pounds? I mean, you see people die from anorexia that weigh around 80 pounds, which is dangerously light of a weight. At 80 pounds, your heart muscle begins to get so thin that you usually die from that. I can't understand how this woman could weigh 43 pounds and still be alive.
But, regardless of that, hopefully she can make a recovery and hopefully she will never have to see her torturer of a mother ever again - Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I heard this on my local news here in Michigan this morning. The woman was also wearing soiled diapers, though my local news failed to mention that she had any issues mentally.
- manifestdata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I seriously hope the prosecutor for this case has a soft spot for developmentally challenged people like I do and goes after this woman. How anyone could do this to a person, especially one who is not fully aware of their terrible situation.
- InternetUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9or 3stone for those in the uk.
- flameboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@sahaskatta:
pics are always good. they help complete the story - xutopia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Any word on wether the 43 year old might have had mental problems of her own? This sounds so one sided and we only have one side of the story. Yes hearing this sounds appaling but do we know the whole story?
- 0zzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8How tall is she? (Not trying to be funny or anything, but just wondering what the situation is.)
- Craga89, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Here here. For all we know the mother could have a medical condition which makes her want to starve her only child to death.
- diggtard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"charged with second degree abuse"
what does it take for 1st degree!!?
the girl is probably retarded in the first place from her mother snorting coke while pregnant - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"The woman was wearing only a T-shirt and four soiled diapers on a mattress stained with urine and feces, The Flint Journal reported Saturday. "
Nice,, anyone want to see the future of home care and care of the elderly? - Beaver6813, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You don't sound very sincere...
- PuyoDead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Don't forget the guy that "popped" (quoted) his 18 month old (give or take a few months, I don't remember exactly) in the face, killing her, because she tripped on his xbox cord.
- sephorous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This reminds me of the Genie case where a girl was locked up in a room for 13 years chained to a toilet during the day and bound in a sleeping bag during the night. Her unstable parents thought she was mentally retarded and tried to "protect" her by keeping her isolated from any type of stimulation.
When they found her, she was severely underdeveloped weighing only 59 pounds and 4.5 feet at age 13.

I agree with TheDiggPig... What is this world coming to? - ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Sounds to me like someone who just hasn't been on the internet too long. Half my family's emails would come across as sarcasm if I didn't know better.
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Most? You mean 99.999999999 of everything that has happened since the world was formed hasn't happened.
- gabeN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8"She was found hiding between two pieces of paper..."
- jasonvw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I work in flint and it is really pretty bad there. even on the good side of town where i work, there are constantly crack addicts (or people who appear to be) coming in and begging for money for the bus. I can't help but feel bad for them, but what am I to do? I may have a job, but just like everyone in Flint, I get paid Burger King wages for white collar work. I haven't been to the bad side of town in years, but I can only imagine it's much worse. Even more appalling (to me at least) is the incumbent governor got reelected while the state is in such horrible condition.
- macaddct1984, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes, being called 'retarded' has often had a negative connotation with it. The the correct term is "mentally retarded", or "mental retardation". (Similar to '*****' vs. 'homosexual')
Also, being developmentally disabled does not necessarily mean mental retardation, although it's usually the more common diagnosis. - kylere, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Man, Flint is one messed up place.
- kyuubi90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It is shocking how a parent can do that to their own child
- ricree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There's some six billion people in the world. Is it that surprising that in a group so big there are some really nasty people who probably don't deserve to be alive?
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11why the hell would you want to see the pics even if there were any?
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4...
who cares? - canadianguy33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2An average 7 year old weighs around 40lbs. A 22 year-old woman would have to be really short for that weight to be even remotely close to her natural weight. It's incredible that this woman is even alive.
- synystar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Comments are starting to resemble youtube. Did someone promote digg in a myspace bulletin?
- rhinocirrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not just Flint. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. My wife works in a department at the local children's hospital that frequently deals with cases like these. She can't really talk about the cases, but for every story that is covered by the news, there are literally 10 (probably more) cases that are just as bad or worse, that never get televised. The Salt Lake community certainly has It's share of problems, but I can Imagine they are pale in comparison to places like Flint. I agree, people in this world is messed up.
- FearFactory, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Her lawyers will find something wrong with her mentally and get her put in a treatment facility instead of jail. Then the tax payers will be chipping in to help with her "treatment" and "recovery".
- mumblingmynah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yep, retarded used to be the PC term, until it got co-opted and became an insult. Before that, it was mongoloid, I think. "Developmentally disabled" is a bit of a mouthful, but I bet it'll start getting` used as an insult by next generation. Same thing happened with "crippled" becoming "handicapped," and then "differently abled."

re: $25,000 bond vs. value of human life.
The purpose of a jail bond is not to punish you. It's not a fine. The jail/court system holds onto the money to give you an incentive against running away. It's to make sure you face the charges on your court date. If you can't come up with the cash, you sit in jail till your court date.
If you pay the bond to get out of jail, then show up for your court dates, you get the money back.
Note that if you hire a bail bondsman, you generally pay him 10% to 15% of the total bond but you do not get that cash back - that's his fee for bonding you out of jail -- and if you run away, he will hunt for you and bring you back. - bbrosemer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"I dont call retarted people retarted, I just call my friends retards when they are being retarted," Michael Scott...
- NecCo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2OMG THAT IS AWFUL!!!!!!!!!
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3wrong.
- DontSayFanboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't think there is really anything wrong with the world that hasn't been happening already. You just hear about it more nowadays due to more efficient communication (ie, internet, sites like digg, etc)
At least, that's how I sleep at night when I've set my homepage to dailyrotten.com - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ugh, I used to weight twice as much back then due to my physical disabilities (can't chew, can't open wide to eat a lot, etc.). :( Now, I weight about 111 lbs.
- synystar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Developmentally disabled is not the same thing as mental retardation... it can include people who have epilepsy, autism, as well as mental retardation or other problems that prevent the person from living a normal life as. It's a catch-all phrase and the article isn't clear about what the woman's condition is so it could have been used because it wasn't known yet.
- buuch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2the bitch should be hung
- crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1in the case of Genie, the father was unstable. and the case started way back in the 70s.
actually, if you think about it, with the advent of communication, medicine, education, child protection laws, child services, universal children's rights, the real question is:
what is this world coming from?
the good ol' days aren't really that good. you just never hear about them. - Codename, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If there were pics, it would probably look like a poltergeist.
- rhinocirrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You are right, 4 years is way to little, and that is if they can prosecute. This case may be a shoe in, but many times these cases are hard to prove. Of course our legal system is not perfect either, so she could possibly get off on some technicality.
As far as the death penalty, I am neither for or against it, but I see it as an easy way out. Sort of like Suicide can be, only you don't have to do the deed yourself, and you get to verbally bash the people that put you in the situation one more time before they take your life. In some ways it is "death relief" rather than a penalty. -
