- capiCrimm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39Which is why I patented lead bottles, they're destined to be a hit.
- MikeWanDo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35Living increases your chances of dying by up to 100%!
- webcure, on 10/26/2007, -1/+34I have been feeling this coming.
All of the bottles that we drink from are plastic, it is seeming like a bad idea... - SpectralSounds, on 10/13/2007, -6/+34Ask yourself these questions.
Is the food you are eating tasty in any way? Then it will kill you.
Are the products you are using useful in any way? Then they will kill you.
Are you alive? Then you will die. - Kronos6948, on 10/13/2007, -2/+26so, wait...I'm fat because of plastic, not because of my love for beef and fried foods?
- whatthefu, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29This just in: walking causes cancer.
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/26/2007, -1/+15Well if that doesn't piss you off, nothing will ...
- iFungus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I think everything is linked to everything else; every single substance is a carcinogen. Oh, and obesity is the fault of all of the chemicals around us, not our lack of exercise and bad eating habits.
- Phomeister, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Amazing! Its not the 5 or 6 200 cal soda drinks ive been drinking every day that makes me fat.. its the plastic its in!
- ArmandoM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Not trying to take away from the study here, but I'm sure all the high fructose corn syrup and sugar in those bottles have a bit to do with obesity too.
- vanlawrence, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrgh!!!! *****! I'm so sick of this *****. WHY IS EVERYTHING MADE OF POISON!?!?!?!!
- jimbo21, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Regardless, plastic has saved far more lives (water drinking bottles after disasters, sterile medical supplies, etc) than could ever be accounted for by these types of poisoning, if it pans out to be a real problem. Not losing sleep over this one.
- JasonCox, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I'm looking around at my desk alone counting the number of plastic things on here... Geez I'm *****.
- stinkypyper, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Free radicals strike again. Nothing is made of anything neutral and common. People actually used to make furniture out of wood at one time you know. Now, everything is all glue and chemical pressed crap coated in every vile varnish known to man.
- merm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Never mind the fact that most water is delivered to your tap via PVC pipes...
- hiphoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Funny, CNN did a report on bisphenol A. They worked real hard to tell us that "more testing still must take place". All this stuff about plastic and Ceil phone radiations reminds me of the cigarette issue. As long as corporations are making money off these Items, they will be pushed as safe no matter how many people die. Then as we die, we have to run to their buddies in the health industrial complex to try and get better. Its a win win proposition for all companies involved. Short term profit, damned be the environment and the people.
- Bensch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5They use ABS plastic, which doesn't contain phthalates doesn't leach biphenol-A like Lexan. Lego actually pays attention, and has for years.
- Bensch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4We can choose to make things from plastics that don't have these problems.
- verifex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Theres a spoken essay/poem about plastic making us all sterile in this video by Snog from 2003. It seemed incredibly forboding and evil sounding, but at the time it was easy to pass it off as simple paranoia. Pretty scary that there was actually something real about the link between plastic and sterility.
Here is the DVD with the video in case you are interested, couldn't find a online video link of it: http://www.amazon.ca/Snog/dp/B00009W8NP - evil-doer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4our fingers are acidic and break down the plastic, so we sit here on our computers for hours and hours touching the keys and mouse, absorbing these chemicals that do who knows what to us.
- faxxy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Children of Men with Clive Owen
In 2027, in a chaotic world in which humans can no longer procreate, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea, where her child's birth may help scientists save the future of humankind. - steger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4well also considering almost everything we touch has plastic in it, it's no surprise that some particles could perhaps rub off onto our hands and into our food and drinks.
- Bensch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4No, your understanding of science is weak at best. Rat and mouse reproductive systems share nearly all of their genes with ours, and we know their eggs are hardier than ours. In general, if something affects mouse or rat reproduction, it affects our reproduction more.
- DimensionalPunk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5We should go back to using lead, like the Romans.
- Ellipsys, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Ordinary disposable plastic bottles (like it says in the article) are actually safe. Its the refillable ones you have to worry about.
- Yage2006, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Just to point out its not ALL PLASTIC its only 3 types of plastic that are bad. "According to this article"
If you check the identifiers of products around your house your going to notice most are type 5 or 1 and are all safe. It's only type 3,6 and 7 mentioned. I looked around my house for fun and only found a few things some plastic glasses and a plastic water bottle "Both were made in china" Everything else was type 5.
So its easy to avoid. No reason to panic at all just avoid those 3 types if you want to be safe.
And I would not worry at all about it if its not something you contain food or liquid in or put in your mouth. - jugger74, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Another blaring alarm bell that should be addressed and dealt with immediately yet we being the dumbed down pathetically slothic masses we are will simply forget about it tomorrow. Reminds me of the studies a few months ago showing that sodium bensoate in soda is damaging our DNA and all the definitive studies showing that Aspartame is a highly poisonous neurotoxin. We are doomed as an Apex species soon we will have ourselves devolved into a race of less than simian intelligence, that is if we don't blow ours selves up first.
- forgiste, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Uh oh... I've been chewing on plastic as a nervous habit for years!!!
- newJxE, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's why you shouldn't eat plastic
- Orkahm52, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Wow, Lego is going to have to recall a lot of it's toys...
- capiCrimm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3There's gotta be an upside to this. Maybe if you eat enough plastic the vomiting and malnutrition will make you skinny?
- Bensch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Tap water is more likely to come through ABS than PVC. You're more safe than you think with tap water. Your pipes are also not likely to be subject to such a range of temperatures as a Nalgene bottle in everyday use - you don't leave your underground water pipes in the car, etc. - and it's those temperature extremes that make bisphenol-A more likely to leach out. Your hot water pipes are likely copper.
- p0ss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Did you even read those links?
The PET bottles link even mentions the birthdefects and obesity, it just says that it is still being debated, and that freezing is unlikely to release anything
The Cook Plastic link says that you shouldn't cook plastic unless it is specifically meant for cooking. It even advises you to use other options like ceramics, metal and glass
And the butter link says that it is true in some cases but depends on the type of butter.
Maybe you were you trying to be sarcastic?
Some plastics are not good for us, and its been looking that way for a long time. - p0ss, on 10/24/2007, -1/+4So, In all seriousness, Where do we get safe water?
Tap water comes through PVC, both disposable and reusable bottles are unsafe. What other ways are there for me to get water? - lohphat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I wonder if it has any bearing on the outcome if the average content of these containers is 300 calorie high-fructose corn syrup beverages.
Hmm... - vanlawrence, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2really...do I? and what else do I do...and what else do I not do. Please...do tell. Tell me also...what colour are my eyes? Please oh wise and all knowing Ascended Master, reveal a little of your divine wisdom.
Or...perhaps you could try SHUTTING YOUR DAMN PIE-HOLE! It is truly UNBELIEVABLE that someone could say (write/type) something so obviously stupid. How do you have even the most VAGUE CLUE about what I do. Obviously you didn't stop to consider that my frustration is directly related to the fact that I AM DOING SOMETHING and this news adds further to my ever-growing in-tray of things to fix. Oh wise and gracious master...allow me to add to your wisdom: IF YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW THEN CLOSE YOUR MOUTH - because you will otherwise, most certainly look like an idiot.
What the jesus! I am incredulous - you actually think you know what I do with my time? What an absolute cretin! - karenflower, on 10/11/2007, -6/+8This is why I've started drinking water out of glass bottles instead of plastic - the plastic leeches into the liquid you drink, even on the label it warns you not use the bottle more than once. And I feel like I can taste the plastic getting stuck at the back of my throat. . yuck :/
- vagarach, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The disposable plastic ones shouldn't be re used due to bacterial concerns, afaik.
- BGFeltenink, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Like we ***** care. Are you a scientist? Then go on living in your stupid world of "nothing can hurt me if I don't believe in it."
- acrodev, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2All your memes are belong to us.
- astrotrain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This is the tip of the iceberg. They don't go into other chemicals and how they are entering our body.
For instance, did you know that workers at microwave popcorn factories wear hazmat suits around the butter powder?... If they don't the powder is so toxic in that state of the line, that when inhaled will give you what they call "Popcorn Lung" which the powder sticks to the insides of your lungs if breathed in.
And this is being boxed up, and sent to the store for you to buy and pop in your microwave to feed to your family.
Another scary item...Teflon (Dupont), this chemical is all over... from your cookwave (ya! non-stick eggs, but you get a does of Teflon in your meal)...to ANY fast food items such as:
Oh hell, about any item from a McDonald's like choke'n'puke... such as fry containers, burger containers, burger wraps, etc.. that keeps the grease in and does not allow to soak through. Most all Pizza joints use Teflon coated paper at the bottom of the box to prevent the pizza grease from soaking into the cardboard to keep that package looking like new (its the white plastic paper folks).
Teflon is so bad... that the government wants it off the market by 2015...The sad part is you have another 7 years of ingesting Teflon through food items, cookware, etc, thanks to the Government and Dupont.
Choose your cookware wisely... start making your dinners at home and avoid choke 'n' puke places. - LittleDas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Because we are weak
and gods must be strong - emt1451, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm in ur pipes, makin u fat
- nickrollout, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4The largest contributing factor plastics have on obesity is allowing corner stores to sell ever larger sizes of soda. They just couldn't get a paper cup to hold .5 gal of soda, now they can.
- dukeochutney, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2i for one dont give a ***** anymore. basically if you live you will get cancer and/or 10 other disease at the same time. ***** that
- Lewie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hooray for the Danish!
- benonymous, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1*****.
- jonesin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's in everything and the only way it can be taken out of the food chain is with regulation. So yes, there is a reason for me to buy it. Because I have no choice if I want all the things a modern lifestyle provides.
- TheUngod, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2There's no reason for you to buy it if you don't want it
- rune420, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Best rant I've read in a while.
