- SumoSniper, on 11/03/2009, -74/+294What the *****? I'm gone for like a day and Digg become a conservative haven? Every comment above mine is basically saying "Abortion is evil, evil murder!" And they're being Dugg massively...
I suppose that's the power of 'bots. - juslen, on 11/03/2009, -42/+186Since this is buried, has anyone been noticing an increase in Conservative articles being dugg? Over the last several months I have noticed typical articles averaging around 20 diggs, now I am seeing quite a few now that are starting to explode with support. Is there a Conservative movement in Digg picking up steam lately? lol
Yeah Its a far stretch, maybe I just have more connections but I just thought I would point it out.
Btw.. as someone who supports a woman's choice.. Its good to see that once someone is given all the information they finally realize that its not just a game or an option its reality.
Its disgusting that the government and political organizations get involved with personal choices that should be between couples, family or the individual not some "non profit" bureaucrat or political organizer. - 2Deluxe, on 11/03/2009, -30/+128Woah, everyone on Digg is all about not taking away freedoms (Speech, Marijuana, etc) and suddenly we're all about SAVING THE BABIES? What the ***** is going on here?
- holysin, on 11/03/2009, -49/+135Burried because:
1) I don't give a crap about someone else's religious/ethical decision based on a picture. I also wouldn't care if she saw jesus in a piece of toast, or a photocopy of a piece of toast.
2) it's breitbart which while not drudgereport/fox news, is damned close, link to the orig. story on kbtx.com or whatever.
It's a choice, and I'm very glad not one I had to assist in the considering of. Now I'm off to cuddle the daughter. - DaviDTC, on 11/03/2009, -22/+94Just imagine, if these kids were born with a pre-existing condition all the people that are saying abortion is bad wouldn't care one bit if they would receive health insurance.
Hey little buddy in the tummy, we support you until you are born :) - pig13, on 11/03/2009, -22/+85Is freerepublic invading this place or something?
- EverythingsRndm, on 11/03/2009, -19/+71wtf...is this like digg's version of a town hall meeting?
- MrDandy, on 11/03/2009, -11/+62Sex education and birth control are the proven best ways to prevent the unwanted pregnancies that result most often in abortions. Anyone who claims to be pro-life, but does not advocate sex education and birth control... is less interested in preventing fetal/infant deaths than enforcing puritanical control of our sex lives. In other words, they want to save babies, but not if it means people can enjoy sex without procreating.
- kurtergad87, on 11/03/2009, -7/+53As one of the old guard here on digg I can confirm the change. After Digg decided it should no longer be a simple tech site, it has been invaded by many different groups (most notably the 4channers and the new influx of republicans).
It has come to the point that I usually don't even bother commenting anymore. All the comments that spew anti-science, anti-politics or that oversimplifies economic theory would be too draining to consider as anything but entertainment. - shaelen, on 11/03/2009, -31/+75I lie to myself every day! I keep telling myself that people can't really be stupid enough to believe in an invisible God, and they can't really be stupid enough to follow words written in a Bible by men.. Yet, it seems some people still believe that way.
- solique, on 11/03/2009, -25/+68a) she's a christian and from what I could tell kinda of a dumb one. So I don't think it should count.
b) she was a director of a PP branch not the organization like some of you commenting (WAY above me) seem to think. When you have a branch in nearly every city you're gonna make a bad hire eventually. Being that it took so long for one to come out says a lot more about the good the organization does then the bad.
c) what "truth" from this was miraculously unveiled that we weren't already aware of?
d) where in this video was an ultrasound mentioned? Or pretty much anything you're commenting about up there. What I saw was simply a righteous, naturally obese, christian american gumming between a couple of meals. I was at least expecting to see some one sided reporting (FOX news style) but even that wound up being mellow.
Take advantage, feel righteous, but there is nothing of real value in this post. - CptBuck, on 11/03/2009, -5/+47If you want to understand the pro-life position you have to realize that its a debate about the freedom of the mother as opposed to the freedom of the unborn child.
Most people would contend that you are free to do whatever you please so long as you don't harm others. Abortion is a fault line of that issue because it directly asks what constitutes "others."
Just keep in mind that both sides of the abortion debate claim to be proponents of freedom. - phydeaux70, on 11/02/2009, -115/+156Because you can lie to others but you can't lie to yourself.
- enantiodromia, on 11/03/2009, -13/+54Calling her "the leader of Planned Parenthood" makes as much sense as calling the Night Shift Manager of McDonalds #2443 Secaucus, NJ "the CEO of the largest restaurant chain in the world".
It's really sad when you have to lie in your headlines to get anyone to notice your non-story. - inactive, on 11/03/2009, -10/+50Yeah, I hear you, dude. This was like stepping into the twilight zone.
- IKORKYI, on 11/03/2009, -11/+49you're a leader of planned parent hood...and an ultra sound changes your mind. sounds like your profession was a bit ill-conceived.
- WiseBinky79, on 11/03/2009, -34/+72Fee Fi Fo Fum, I smell astroturf. I smell propaganda. I smell the blood of the Christian right.
- hackiavelli, on 11/03/2009, -22/+57It's too bad she feels her own choice gives her the power to take away another woman's.
- bubba9999, on 11/03/2009, -8/+41A huge number of "organized" conservatives joined digg a few years ago to combat the anti-GOP articles that appear on digg.
When something like this pops up, they get an email from somewhere and run over here en masse to digg it up or down in accordance with party policy to give the illusion of popular public support regarding some person or issue. - v3rtex7740, on 11/03/2009, -3/+35with a proper magnet and coil, she could power the city!
- digitalArtform, on 11/03/2009, -9/+40Might have something to do with the fact that 97% of their business is unrelated to abortion.
- DaDrake, on 11/03/2009, -15/+45Actually, abortions account for about 3% of their business. Most of what they do is provide women health services, like contraceptives.
But, it is quite disturbing the lengths some of their activist go to, in order to "protect" women rights. For example, while late-term abortions are incredibly rare (when they were legal), I still find it disturbing that they continue to lobby for legalizing such procedures, when there isn't a medical necessity. Secondly, they are vehemently against mandatory waiting periods (24 hours) and notifying women of charities/services that will help them take care of their baby or find their child a suitable home; seriously, what harm can come out of giving women more options? Then you have some individuals, like Pelosi, who want government funds to pay for abortions. I am not religious... but I can not imagine mandating tax payer money to provide for abortions; a lot of people consider abortion murder.
Despite this countries increasing apathy towards abortions, the rate is going down... no longer do we have 1.3 million abortions per year. - lolerskate, on 11/03/2009, -19/+48Pro-life, dont support abortion or we will ***** kill you!
- SaladCactusKing, on 11/03/2009, -32/+60Notice how the right wing nutjobs always wait till the ass end of the night (or early morning for east coasters) to digg their ***** up? That's because they know that during the day, smart people will be awake to bury their crazy to oblivion.
- miltank, on 11/03/2009, -14/+42I wish I could digg you up more than once.
- Maxplosion, on 11/03/2009, -10/+35Notice there is unilateral support for this article for the following 8 comments then rational discourse takes hold and the 'conservative' comments drop down to almost zero. Co-incidence?
In noticing this though it bothers me that this comment brigade is getting the prime real estate for posts people actually read. - badwithcomputer, on 11/03/2009, -19/+43something odd is going on in the digg comments here and the comments on the video...the internet is a great place for differing opinions and freedom of speech, but it seems like there's an overwhelming bias here. an overwhelming bias, it's worth pointing out, that you don't usually see on digg.
- superflydugg, on 11/03/2009, -16/+40why doesn't everyone take a breath and think of what happens when we don't have safe abortions. teenagers have sex, they get drunk and make babies. it's like kind of their thing. so the girls scared, and alone try and take matters into their own hands with wires and *****. and then the girl dies from an unseen uterine infection.
i know you want to save the babies, we all love babies! I LOVE BABIES!!!! and puppies, and rainbows and everything else cute. but sometimes you gotta pick the less damaging option. and those babies would grow up, some crack babies, abused neglected and they would be tumors on our society.
tell you what? you want the babies, go adopt them, everyone of them. every single one. be like gandhi, show me my own brutality through self-sacrifice. come on...show me how brutal i am. because i think i'm just seeing the world a little clearer than you. - fantasyflamz, on 11/03/2009, -12/+36I think what most conservatives don't realize is that Planned Parenthood does other things than abortions. They offer counseling, yearly checkups for women, cheaper birth control options, etc. I used to go there when I didn't have insurance for my birth control.
- SumoSniper, on 11/03/2009, -16/+38It's not "murdering babies." It's removing a parasitic (maybe symbiotic if you consider the genetic benefit of having offspring) life-form from a woman's body. If you pulled a baby out of a woman's womb at almost any stage before the actual birth, it wouldn't survive. Ergo it is dependant in EVERY way upon the mother and it is entirely within her rights to stop it.
Look, I don't believe, as a matter of principle, that a women should consider abortion a substitute for contraception. But considering that even a healthy baby can destroy a woman's life (emotionally, financially, even physically), there is no moral question about it in my mind. While it's in her body she can choose to humanely terminate the pregnancy whenever the damn hell she wants.
I've heard all the arguments, but in the end it always boils down to some deep seated belief of something like a soul inside the baby, to which my response is to take your fairytale crap out of my public policy. - TalahRama, on 11/03/2009, -11/+33Or you're *****.
- digitalArtform, on 11/03/2009, -25/+47I'll bet more religious people are leaving churches than the other way around.
- Jordan117, on 11/03/2009, -2/+22FreeRepublic.com, the far-right-wing site famous for "freeping" (i.e., cheating) online polls, have started an organized effort to game Digg. See the article "What is Digg? And why should I care?" at:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/23199 ...
Some choice quotes:
"I’m not asking you to deal with obnoxious liberals. You don’t have to read their comments. You don’t have to respond to them. All I’m asking you to do is vote for an article at Digg and then leave. That’s it! Digging conservative articles is the same thing as FReeping a poll."
"FReepers, if you’re up for it, please do review article comments and digg or bury them."
"there’s no reason not to simply get a new account if you’re banned. There are various ways to use different IP addresses if that’s an issue."
The article also talks about setting up a mailing list to coordinate the digging of chosen articles, which I'm pretty sure is against the site's TOS. You can see this in action by clicking the "Who Dugg This?" button below a story -- it always has the same 20-30 users. - v3rtex7740, on 11/03/2009, -5/+25I see your day has yet to come.
- shaelen, on 11/03/2009, -31/+51Seriously? "Blessings?" Blessings. Heh.
- dfross, on 11/03/2009, -6/+26This is possibly the most cogent and unbiased opinion I've seen on this thread.
To those people taking this issue and using it as a stepping stone to push your "abortion is choice, a fetus is not alive" propaganda, shame on you.
To those people taking this issue and using it as a stepping stone to push your "abortion is murder, it's killing babies for profit" propaganda, shame on you as well.
This article is about someone changing their mind based on their own principles. More power to them for making up their OWN opinion rather than following some political or social "movement". You are not entitled to bray your values at them and champion or condemn them because they are making up their own mind about an issue.
Frankly, I expect this behaviour from the overly religious as they always scream at people who they disagree with, but from the liberals, I expect something better. - genjiworks, on 11/03/2009, -6/+25Being someone who was adopted, I don't believe in abortion... But I will NEVER judge anyone who has/had an abortion. That's why I am sick and tired of watching the 'religious righteous' condemn abortion and judge people instead of solving the problem. Do you know why people have abortions? Moral-bastards, usually religious ones.
- If a person gets pregnant and not married, don't judge and condemn their damn soul! That makes people want to have an abortion...
- Make giving away a baby you can't afford or raise an understanding of loss. Don't demonize the actions of giving up a child.. They feel bad enough... Do you want them to abort to avoid being demonize.
- Try to lax the laws/legalities/ and fees of adopting. Many couples go overseas to fricking get children because it's easier/cheaper then it is heare in the US. That's godamn wrong!
- If a couple wants to adopt a baby... isn't that enough? Religion, race, sexual prefrences, jobs should play no part of adopting a child... I mean it's life with someone who would love the child... or get aborted.
- Improve the orphanages... it should be a place of passion and not jail like.
- Vasectomy/Reversal should be a a government run or very cheap. I promise you this would cut uneeded pregnancies by 80%
If people just stop demonizing... others... and instead make it easier to adopt a child or give up a child without the *****.. there would be a whole lot less abortion and a whole lot more adopted children. - bberan, on 11/03/2009, -14/+33Roe v. Wade upheld that a woman has the right to abort any time she chooses before the fetus becomes viable. It does not say conception. It says viable. It upheld this ruling because before the fetus is viable there is no child. There is only the woman. The definition of viable means able to survive outside the body. Modern medicine has improved enough to allow premature babies to survive earlier and earlier, but how far do pro-life people want to push this? Like it or not, eventually we will be able to create people in test tubes at which point masturbation and periods would become 'murder' since each one of those eggs and sperm could have been born and grown up to cure cancer. I love that argument....too bad, statistically speaking, that kid would have an exponentially greater chance of ending up in jail on a drug bust than becoming a scientist.
The cold hard truth is pro-choice does not equal forced abortion. If you are pro-life, good for you. Have your kids, spend time with them, raise them right, but understand that not everyone is like you and holds the same set of beliefs as you and has had the same life experiences as you have. Also, don't pretend you hold every life sacred, cause we all know thats just a big pile of ***** on a stick. If you really cared about all life you would take some interest in the lives of those who were brought to term, but I guess, once they're out, its not your problem anymore!
I say, if you want to take away womens right to chose to terminate their pregnancies, you need to take away their right to choose to get pregnant. It only seems fair, does it not? Or, in spirit of cooperation and finding a middle ground, you need to get a permit to have a kid and a permit to abort one. - inactive, on 11/03/2009, -16/+35If abortion is murder, then miscarriages make God the biggest genocide crazed maniac in the history of humanity.
- inactive, on 11/03/2009, -7/+25yea dumb ass one is an actual fully sentient human being and one is fewer cells than you blow out a particularly big snot ball.
- TsuruchiBrian, on 11/03/2009, -1/+19On a related note Christianity was actually started by a Jewish zombie.
- Khirzask, on 11/03/2009, -6/+24I thought this was The Onion.
- enantiodromia, on 11/03/2009, -8/+25Yes, and we should call Target "The Shoe Store", even though shoes only account for a small part of Target's sales.
Keep displaying your ignorance guys, it's delicious. - AgeofMastery, on 11/03/2009, -9/+25Why is Planned Parenthood suing?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northame ...
A spokesman for Planned Parenthood said: "We regret being forced to turn to the courts to protect the safety and confidentiality of our clients and staff. However, in this instance it is absolutely necessary
They don't want any of their staff or patients killed or harassed, that's why. - bluto36, on 11/02/2009, -35/+51Mrs Sanger must be doing about 6000rpms in her grave.
- SaladCactusKing, on 11/03/2009, -8/+23Holding giant signs with pictures of dead fetuses outside of the local Target isn't work.
- charlietuna, on 11/03/2009, -4/+19Who is "in favor" of abortion? It may be legal, and people may be forced to choose that option, but who isn't -- at the very least -- ambivalent about it?
Or am I making the biggest digg sin of all by not taking a position which does solidly places me in the right or left wing camp? - Frisbinator, on 11/03/2009, -6/+21You're right, the overwhelming bias on DIGG is with liberals, which is disgusting.
- Bagos1, on 11/03/2009, -3/+18Just out of curiousity, how do you know Digg buried something.
- TsuruchiBrian, on 11/03/2009, -4/+19If you want to seem like an ignorant *****, calling people "wicked" is a great start. It immediately establishes your intolerant religious beliefs and misplaced sense of moral superiority all in one word.

What is Digg?
