STFU: There are going to be extra people who would have been healthy and are going to die because of this. The death toll will reach more than 9/11, probably many times that of 9/11 + other economic, psychological effects. These are people who would have survived otherwise. That reasoning is outdated and stupid.

People are trying to be trendy skeptics who think it's all about automatic no, no to even things they know nothing about. - catfarmer, on 11/05/2009, -10/+16Weren't we all supposed to die from Bird Flu? SARS? West Nile? I can never remember...
It's so hard to when it's the same song and dance every couple of years... - wacked, on 11/05/2009, -2/+8Meh.

In the United States about 36,000 people die from flu-related causes yearly. - Rewdog, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3Screw you, my friend died from dancing.
- alpha88, on 11/05/2009, -2/+5I don't know how anyone can consciously bury bacon.

- diggbigwig, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Don't forget the shark attacks a few years ago.
- therippa, on 11/05/2009, -2/+4Meanwhile, 98.6 people died of the regular flu today, just in the US
(source: http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/disease.htm%29 - Airforcefalco, on 11/05/2009, -0/+221 million vaccines to every 9 Americans?

- enthreeoh, on 11/05/2009, -3/+3Do you think things like this just happen over night?
- mi2mi, on 11/05/2009, -2/+2Meh. Chances are really small to catch swine flu in most countries (including USA), let alone die from swine flu:

Too much panic over nothing. - askantik, on 11/05/2009, -3/+2So just because YOU didn't die, all of those things are *****? lol.
- DankBuddz, on 11/05/2009, -2/+1Swine Flue = Man-Made Global Warming...
Hang on, let me write that down. - Awesomebox5000, on 11/05/2009, -3/+2Point is, swine flu isn't statistically much worse than regular flu so there's no cause for all the media sensation it's received recently. Thus, 'meh.'
- jakeorhodes, on 11/05/2009, -3/+1I've had swine flu. It wasn't as bad as regular flu, a bit worse than a cold. Nothing to panic about so far...
- Mujokan, on 11/05/2009, -6/+3Swine flu right now just means a worse flu season than normal. But it's not great to have such a communicable strain out there. It has evolved some good tech -- now we hope it doesn't get together with a strain that is more deadly.
Swine flu isn't the black plague, but it's not good to have that evolutionary tech just doing whatever it wants, so it makes sense to beat it down as quickly and effectively as possible. - ohhaiitsryan, on 11/05/2009, -5/+2dugg for "fear of swine flu" graph
- Dustin00, on 11/05/2009, -5/+1The question all summer was: will swine flu become more deadly than seasonal?
Now that we're into November, it's looking like it will not.
So I feel little panic on this one, but are these non-seasonal flus going to become more numerous as we continue to factory farm animals? Odds are: yes. - christoast, on 11/05/2009, -6/+1lets keep it to one ***** word shall we "Meh." is what we're doing here if you didn't catch on.
- neutron7, on 11/05/2009, -7/+1Who cares if it might kill people, it could SLOW DOWN TRADE AND WORKER PRODUCTIVITY! oh noes!
- ravedigger, on 11/05/2009, -9/+3Somehow I managed to survive the swine flu.
- atomiku, on 11/05/2009, -11/+4These comments suck.
- hasslinthehoff, on 11/05/2009, -10/+3The media hype for this disease is in inverse proportion to the actual threat it poses. Suck on that, infographic.
- CDefense7, on 11/05/2009, -10/+3We all certainly shouldn't freak out but the fact that it can be transferred between humans and animals makes it ripe for mutation so if we don't stomp it out to a reasonable degree, it will just keep jumping and mutating. So maybe instead of doing the opposite of freaking out, we should make informed decisions without being on the extremes of either end. I'm not sure what's worse, saying "OMG many people are gonna die! Get vaccinated!" or "OMG you have a better chance at dying from leprosy. Don't worry." I'm tired of seeing comments on Digg say it's all media hype and there is nothing to worry about so let's just all forget it.
- osr3v, on 11/05/2009, -11/+4Meh. I'm more scared of man-bear-pig flu. That's the nasty one!
- icepick314, on 11/05/2009, -10/+2this won't affect my bacon supply, will it?
that's ALL it matters!!!!!!! - dogcat, on 11/05/2009, -13/+3Everyone I know that got the shot has been sick! One even had temporary nerve damage - he thought he was having a stroke.
:-)
Funny how they made fun of me for not getting the shot. - JillRhudy, on 11/05/2009, -11/+1Look to the left of South America, it shows 9 Americans to every 21 million vaccines. I believe it is the other way around.
- googlymoogly111, on 11/05/2009, -10/+0man i thought i had effin Bird SARS last night, had to chug the pink to stop the stink if u know what i mean. feelin great this am tho!
- drsanjitbagchi, on 11/05/2009, -11/+0You may be surprised to know that according to an estimate, every year, during America’s peak travel periods—the days that surround the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays—60 millions US people travel 50 miles or more from home. This year, courtesy the severity and spread of the virus that causes Swine Flu, travel and vacation plans of consumers and businesses may be restricted. This in turn may adversely affect the hotels, airlines and other service industries. Other industries in the US may also suffer from Swine Flu as a consequence of reduced productivity and revenues, courtesy the absence of the sick workers. These were the observations of a health economist affiliated to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business, Bryce Sutton. In the third and fourth quarters of 2009, Swine flu—by slowing the growth of important industries—may stall the already weak GDP growth. And thereby Swine flu may wreck more havoc to the US economy, according to Sutton.
