- yocouchdigga, on 07/08/2009, -3/+29I know the media's done a lot of fear-mongering over this, sensationalism gets ratings but in all seriousness, we're overdue for a pandemic. Keep your ears open... and if you hear "Baby, can you dig your man" on the radio, bunker down and beware the dark man.

- JasonCox, on 07/09/2009, -1/+13*****, this means that the spam bots who keep registering new Tamiflu-based accounts daily on my forums are going to be switching to a buzzword soon...

- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -2/+10Meh, 545 deaths worldwide from 105,246 infections - and thats only REPORTED infections btw. I'm fairly sure I'm just getting over it myself (had the regular winter flu already - can't get that twice in one season), and like thousands of other "not-reported" cases, that makes the statistic even lamer 0.05% is likely a lot less.
Official advice here in New Zealand is "who cares, stay at home if you're sick. call an ambulance if you're dying" - No point in trying to fight it anymore, it's almost impossible not to come across someone with it. It only appears to pose a danger to people with pre-existing medical issues, asthma, obesity etc.
WHO isn't worried and nor should anyone else be - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -1/+7Lets have some context.

Swine flu is serious, so is this development but let's not forget that, people die in their thousands from less glamorous diseases everyday. - Joe_rigby, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5Oh, bacon - what have you done?
- Azsen, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5We only have to worry if it turns the infected into flesh eating zombies that can run really fast. Then rather than employing your pandemic flu plan employ your zombie plan.
- GraceHead, on 07/09/2009, -1/+6so just sleep it off like everyone else does who gets the flu ... I don't get the hysteria ... the mortality rate is still pretty normal when compared to the ordinary flu.
- WorldLeader, on 07/09/2009, -5/+9SHUT. DOWN. EVERYTHING.
- meed, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4I am frigging tired of hearing about this flu strain. Seriously, it isn't any more deadly than the average flu strain (yet) but the media and CDC keep hyping it as if it is the next black death. You know what? I'll not going to loose sleep over a flu bug right now. SO what if it suddenly has grown immune to a recently developed anti virus agent? Humanity has survived for thousands of years without it, and we shouldn't worry now. The only people that should be worried are those with weak immune systems, but on that note they should already be afraid of all kinds of other bugs spreading around our society too.
Basically CDC wants more money and hypes this crap to get it, Media simply want something to report on when celebrities like MJ aren't dying (althought Fara Fawcette's death really was more tragic). And Drug companies want to sell more drugs, as always. I wonder how many doses of Tamiflu were sold till this new strain was discovered. - eatinshramps, on 07/09/2009, -1/+5CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHSIA

I do distinctly remember Greenland being a pain in the ass as well. - curtisag, on 07/09/2009, -1/+4It's the fear potential that is the greatest threat, sort of like terrorism. You're extremely unlikely to be killed by a terrorist, but look at all the money, wars, and fear associated with it. Fear can cripple an entire economy. People afraid don't go to work, buy things, go outside their homes, etc.
- DanteShamest, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2I suggest we split ourselves into groups of 4. Your companions would preferably be one of these: a store manager, an army war veteran, a biker and a teenage gamer girl.
- BrapAllgood, on 07/09/2009, -1/+3I got it! That game sucked, all because of Madagascar...otherwise known as 'The Key'.
- cadam, on 07/09/2009, -1/+3Maybe if we put Lipstick on the porkers it'll just quit.

- reeds1999, on 07/09/2009, -1/+2Not to worry. The big Drug Dealers will pop out a new wonder vaccine quicker than you can say "millions of dollars". Of course, it won't work either.
- Joe_rigby, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Oprah?
- HappyScrappy, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Doesn't make any difference.
Swine flu wasn't going to go away anyway, tamiflu or not.
It's the flu. It's like the other flus. It'll take its turn being the dominant strain every couple years and it'll kill thousands every week like the other flus (it currently kills a lot fewer than that). - CoCreateHealth, on 07/12/2009, -0/+0I guess anything that's viral can only be stopped by getting your immune system stronger. It's time to go back to nature for healing!
- CaptOblivious, on 07/09/2009, -1/+1Good thing most of us older folks had it back in the 70's and are immune now.
Leaves more tamaflu for you younger folks that need it. - PNess, on 07/09/2009, -0/+0Wow talk about fear mongering.
Tamiflu had already said that 2% give or take a tad of the people using it would be ineffective against the flu.
this is not new, this is not scary, this was expected already.
sigh - goddardc, on 07/09/2009, -0/+0Swine flu can't touch us in the UK, we have 500 million doses of Tamifl....oh wait.
More info here: http://digg.com/d1qFgU
And you can track swine flu @ http://digg.com/d1qBSJ
I am still sceptical of Swine flu as being anything to be worried about... I would be tempted to let the disease run riot and just let our immune systems deal with it rather than wasting money trying to prevent what may be inevitable.
But I am just a pleb when it comes to disease control etc. So I will sit happily on the fence for now. - Ragarnok, on 07/09/2009, -1/+1Tamiflu is not the first line medication prescribed in Swine Flu cases.
- mac888, on 07/08/2009, -9/+8stock up on canned and dried foods and be prepared to boil the air you breath...

- Palaceguard, on 07/09/2009, -4/+2Almost 2010 and we can't even cure the swine flu.
