Party and Play: how it's fueling the spread of HIV watch!
current.com — This is my first submission to the Health section, the video report that explores the use of crystal meth in the sex lives of gay men and how it leads to the spreading of HIV. Also note how accessible the online dates and drugs are, and how meth has become so common everywhere.

- Surferess, on 06/08/2008, -0/+97I'm so uninformed I thought PNP meant Plug and Play.
- HotDogBun, on 06/09/2008, -0/+39I'm sure there is plugging involved.
- Farik, on 06/09/2008, -9/+4That's what she said.
- redneckblues, on 06/09/2008, -2/+15He in this story.
- dafunkmonster, on 06/09/2008, -8/+1I don't get it...
Ooooh, its a buttsecks joke! lol
- Farik, on 06/09/2008, -9/+4That's what she said.
- aznpwnzor, on 06/09/2008, -7/+3you mean Plug and Pray

- Tiak, on 06/09/2008, -1/+11And here I thought it was a kind of transistor...
- LilJimmyNordin, on 06/09/2008, -0/+3No, but you can do it with a tranny sister.
- nutzngum, on 06/09/2008, -0/+5i wonder how many gay guys in the tech scene answered ads for PNP with a *completely* different thing in mind...
- HotDogBun, on 06/09/2008, -0/+39I'm sure there is plugging involved.
- ncraig, on 06/09/2008, -0/+36wow, that ***** is crazy.
- nycmac247, on 06/09/2008, -2/+1-
- isntreal, on 06/09/2008, -1/+34A close friend I grew up with got involved with this scene. He's now 22, HIV positive, and serving 15 years in federal prison for drug trafficking.
- Barackalypse, on 06/09/2008, -30/+3At least he gets automatic revenge on anyone that rapes him. Course being gay and all probably means it would be consensual anyway.
- encrypteduser, on 06/09/2008, -1/+18So, a woman is fine with being raped by a man because she is straight? Moron.
- willywong, on 06/09/2008, -2/+2Gay men aren't frigid ***** like women.
- Barackalypse, on 06/09/2008, -4/+2Your satire meter is broken, we're talking about prisons here, you know the whole "don't drop the soap thing", but this guy being gay sort of upends that so I made the comment in that vain. Also, your grasp of English is faulty, the "probably" in my comment allows for my satirical statement to still handle the case where he doesn't want man sex from another inmate.
- Tiak, on 06/09/2008, -0/+5You obviously haven't seen the gay rape help line ads on all the San Francisco buses.
- KaiUno, on 06/09/2008, -0/+3Con...sensual? I doubt it.
- rossisdead, on 06/09/2008, -0/+3While you're a complete idiot, you might wanna know that it's generally the rapist that gives someone HIV, not the person being raped.
- Barackalypse, on 06/09/2008, -3/+1I'm sorry, did you completely miss the part about him having HIV, and thus if he is raped being the one who exposes the rapist to the disease? You people have no sense of humor.
- 47f0, on 06/09/2008, -0/+4You know Barackalypse - if I had never been quite convinced that you were a drooling little intestinal parasite with a cranium filled with puss, I'm now a believer. You sir, are a poster-child for retroactive abortion.
- Barackalypse, on 06/09/2008, -2/+1I suppose when you can't debate the issues or make witty comments about screwed up situations, you're left to toss out personal insults. I had thought prison rape jokes were fairly common, but apparently they aren't well received here.
- encrypteduser, on 06/09/2008, -1/+18So, a woman is fine with being raped by a man because she is straight? Moron.
- papercupped, on 06/09/2008, -0/+4should have gone to spec-savers...

- OpCzar, on 06/09/2008, -0/+30I don't have any insight on the matter but am surprised how at ease these people are to be filmed.
- JustinNoland, on 06/09/2008, -0/+19Well, in their defense, they *are* high on crystal meth.

- Barackalypse, on 06/09/2008, -10/+4The only thing that could have made this article less politically correct was if it was about gay African drug users, that would pretty much wrap up every HIV stereotype in one. Of course, the stereotype is actually true:
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and ...- qwertydvorak, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1funny how the truth gets you buried. you would think people would at least digg you for the name of the doctor in the article: Dr. De *****.

- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -11/+14I hope Craig Newmark is watching. Craigslist is enabling a lot of this.
- chris8535, on 06/09/2008, -0/+22I interviewed Craig and the CEO of Craiglist, and we asked him if he felt responsible for the raw and inappropriate content on the site. He said that it was what the people wanted, and thats what Craigslist is there to provide.
- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -2/+12Which shows how simple minded and detached craig is about the nature of the internet. If you allow your creation to be infested by trouble, legitimate people stop using it. Years ago I used the dating section and actually met some extremely attractive, normal women. Now it's infested with spammers, druggies and weirdos.
If he had any respect for his creation and the people using it he would allow the site to evolve rather than watch it languish like it's 1997.- 4rp4n3t, on 06/09/2008, -1/+8Um, it IS evolving. On it's own. You mean he should try and *shape* it's evolution, which is a different argument altogether.
- nycmac247, on 06/09/2008, -1/+3do you also own a private beach?
- imofirey, on 06/09/2008, -1/+2The evolution of Craigslist is being shaped by other groups attempting to shape their own. Craigslist is therefore being more of a 'purist' in this circumstance.
- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -2/+12Which shows how simple minded and detached craig is about the nature of the internet. - ledguitar, on 06/09/2008, -2/+15True it's happening on Craigslist but even if it gets stopped on Craigslist, it will pop up somewhere else.
- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -4/+11The same could be said about crime in your neighborhood. That doesn't mean you put up with it though.
- CamperBob, on 06/09/2008, -1/+1Um, what do you suggest? Censorship?
- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -4/+11The same could be said about crime in your neighborhood. That doesn't mean you put up with it though.
- spambutcher, on 06/09/2008, -2/+14You could also say that TCP/IP and HTTP are enabling this.
I'm not sure that just because someone sets up a system for communication - that they're responsible for how it's used.
If craigslist went away / started censoring - someone else would step in to fill the gap (or perhaps more to the point - plug the hole...)- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -3/+3That's like saying eBay can't do anything about fraud. A lot can be done to clean craigslist up.
- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -4/+1"If craigslist went away / started censoring - someone else would step in to fill the gap (or perhaps more to the point - plug the hole...)"
I agree, and let them. Craigslist can't be all things to all people. Left to its own devices the meth heads will inherit the site, Craig should just call it "Druggies seeking druggies."
The "problem" I have with craigslist (well, ONE of the problems) is that by having the personals infected with drug addicts/etc you're cross promoting that lifestyle to someone looking for a job, or buying a car, etc. By not taking care of the problem you're effectively endorsing it.
- JustinNoland, on 06/09/2008, -1/+5By giving people access to avenue by which to communicate does not mean that he condones, nor is responsible for, the abuses of that system. One of the great aspects of Craigslist is that it is almost completely uninvolved with its user-base, allowing greater freedom and flexibility, and allowing its users to police themselves, but this is also one of its pitfalls. However, to blame the creators of a website for how their services and content are used is completely inappropriate and wrongfully dismisses the concept of personal responsibility completely.
- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -1/+3because we all know when users police themselves the outcome always reflects what the majority feels.
/sarcasm.
Even digg has a thumbs up option. Craigslist is so negative all is has is a "flag" option. Too many flags and a post is deleted. The problem with that is enough of these meth heads click the flag button on posts that offer recovery services, or free std services that all of those ads instantly disappear. Misery loves company and craigslist is their *other* addiction, they're perpetuating the problem.
- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -1/+3because we all know when users police themselves the outcome always reflects what the majority feels.
- bulletproofx, on 06/09/2008, -1/+4The Internet is enabling a lot of this.
- dafunkmonster, on 06/09/2008, -0/+3Craigslist is also enabling some of the best rofl-ing sessions I've ever had, complements of "best of"
- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -1/+10Yeah we saw your ad.

- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -1/+10Yeah we saw your ad.
- retawd, on 06/09/2008, -0/+6It's all human nature. Nothing else. Sex feels good (although gay sex sounds painful...) and drugs feel good. Humans like to feel good. Some people feel good by self righteously blaming a single individual for "enabling" others to indulge their temptations. That's no different from gay sex or smoking meth. So shut up with your enabling nonsense.
- michrech, on 06/09/2008, -2/+1Why does gay sex sound painful? If it were, there wouldn't be nearly as many of us engaging in it, I can tell you that.
Being as you, for some reason, believe it sounds painful, I'm going to assume you're talking about anal sex (I've never talked to someone who made that comment that *wasn't* thinking/talking about anal). Not all of us engage in that act. It works the same way as "straight" couples that don't engage in it, either.- JustinNoland, on 06/10/2008, -1/+0Doesn't the ass function as a vagina of sorts, though, for gay guys? See, if a guy and a girl don't want anal, they have her pussy or oral. But if a guy and a guy don't want anal they have...just oral? That seems like it would get boring rather quickly.
- michrech, on 06/09/2008, -2/+1Why does gay sex sound painful? If it were, there wouldn't be nearly as many of us engaging in it, I can tell you that.

- soupdawg30, on 06/09/2008, -0/+25These people will never learn until it's to late. If you live without thinking of consequences you're basically screwed. Notice the two older guys knew everything that was wrong with what they were doing and seemed as if they almost wanted to stop. I suspect that will be the younger guys in the next 5-10 years.
- WoWii, on 06/09/2008, -8/+32We're not just sure, we're HIV positive...
- Iztikeit, on 06/14/2008, -0/+0Think of that yourself? Amazing diggers will digg jokes they've heard 100 times.
I wonder if you guys are still digging "Rick James, bitch"?
- Iztikeit, on 06/14/2008, -0/+0Think of that yourself? Amazing diggers will digg jokes they've heard 100 times.
- AlexanderZero, on 06/09/2008, -3/+20I don't understand why other gays are so willing to accept such a terrible lifestyle because they feel left out or some *****. I'm not going to ruin my life, and even though I feel bad for them it's a little hard to sympathize with them for being so reckless.
- greystill, on 06/09/2008, -6/+2Not all gay guys do that *****.
- JFitzpatrick, on 06/09/2008, -1/+4Most of the young adults I know, both homosexual and heterosexual are just as risky in their behavior. Are the thousands upon thousands of college age girls that drank themselves into a stupor this last weekend (and many weekends before that) and risked assault and rape while severely impaired... any less reckless? We live in a culture driven by impulsiveness and immediacy.
- Amadeus2490, on 06/09/2008, -0/+6I"ve actually gotten into "arguments" with gay guys over this; when asked why they live such a lifestyle, their only reaction is to become incredibly offended and say "You're just insecure with yourself, that's why you can't accept gay people."
For The Record: I hate everybody who lives a self-destructive lifestyle, regardless of who or what they are.
- COlson87, on 06/09/2008, -1/+9Why they're acting as any good natured gentleman would.

- DarkoKun, on 06/09/2008, -3/+2What the hell is wrong with people I never wanted to do any other drug other than weed. because of the bad stuff I hear about other drugs.
- armoreddillo, on 06/09/2008, -1/+2i have a friend named lucy,
she's not so bad at all - ralphthemagi, on 06/09/2008, -0/+4Because that's "enough" for you. Some people - many people - like to push limits. They start out with something like marijuana, but it just isn't enough. They want to feel like that constantly, and then they want to feel something even more intense - so they upgrade to whatever's next. That's why marijuana gets labeled as a gateway drug. It doesn't mean something ridiculous like everyone who uses weed is going to end up on heroin, but most people who do end up on heroin and crack started with weed.
The scary thing is that meth is different. There are kids who start on meth, and that's all they ever do. Some kids start in middle school, and their life is pretty much over at age 14.- roodammy44, on 06/09/2008, -1/+1You could argue that alcohol is a gateway drug too.
- dotpoo, on 06/09/2008, -1/+2Yeah but the government can tax that....so that's okay.
- 47f0, on 06/09/2008, -0/+3Actually, once you accept the correct definition of "drug" the winner of gateway drug of the year is tobacco - hands down.
- roodammy44, on 06/09/2008, -1/+1You could argue that alcohol is a gateway drug too.

survival of the fittest anyone?- Tiak, on 06/09/2008, -2/+5...Because these people were TOTALLY going to reproduce if they didn't have HIV,,,
("Survival of the fittest" refers to reproductive fitness, if you somehow were unaware.)- michrech, on 06/09/2008, -0/+0There are PLENTY gay guys that help create little cretins. They can either provide the needed materials to their lesbian friends, or they can donate to a sperm bank (hell, the latter is probably more popular, especially if they are paid for their seed).
- Elranzer, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1Actually the most common reason for homosexual men reproducing is because the majority of them are living forced (and repressed) straight lifestyle thanks to their environment and upbringing.
- michrech, on 06/09/2008, -0/+0There are PLENTY gay guys that help create little cretins. They can either provide the needed materials to their lesbian friends, or they can donate to a sperm bank (hell, the latter is probably more popular, especially if they are paid for their seed).
- kublerross, on 06/09/2008, -0/+3well apparently 'fittest' nowadays means unsuccessful, poor, uneducated, and hyper-religious, as these people seem to be reproducing the most
- Tiak, on 06/09/2008, -2/+5...Because these people were TOTALLY going to reproduce if they didn't have HIV,,,
- TritonVision, on 06/09/2008, -6/+11at least some of them are still sensible enough to use a Mac.
- papercupped, on 06/09/2008, -5/+6that's just because they're gay...
- Murrabbit, on 06/09/2008, -5/+5That's because they're both gay and living in San Fransisco, where like half of all macs are sold. It just goes along with the "life style".
Yeah, they're messed up homosexuals on meth. . . what's your excuse?
- theboozer, on 06/09/2008, -0/+2After watching this, I can't get the Magnum P.I. theme song out of my head.

I wish people would quit using the same Reagan way of looking at AIDS: "Why should we care? It's killing all the right people!" and people wonder where Reverend Wright got his crazy conspiracy theory that the government released it.- nycmac247, on 06/09/2008, -0/+1dead on, Murrabbit

- Murrabbit, on 06/09/2008, -0/+5Uh yeah - they weren't exactly going to be reproducing anyway.
- Murrabbit, on 06/09/2008, -2/+381 in 5 gay men use Meth? Where did they pull that statistic from? What *****. I mean first off what number are they using for the total number of gay men? Also, I hate to make an argument from personal experience, but I know scores of gays, many in San Fransisco for ***** sake and none of 'em use meth (Well okay there's that one but seriously he's messed up).
It's probably just my fault for hanging out with the nerdy gay crowd - book stores, coffee shops and sittin' round tables playing D&D - that sort of lifestyle doesn't mesh well with meth.- rossisdead, on 06/09/2008, -1/+5It was probably some horribly misinterpreted statistic, like if it were true, it might have actually been "1 in 5 gay men have tried meth once", and even that seems pretty outlandish.
- psyjoniz, on 06/09/2008, -0/+14but but, what if it meant you could play D&D for 5 days straight??
- had3l, on 06/09/2008, -0/+2I've been on meth ever since the release of the 4th edition. Not that those two are related in any way, just thought I'd mention it.
- dotpoo, on 06/09/2008, -0/+1Is that like a play on words?
"5 days straight".... like 5 days in a row OR 5 days of non-gay?
- sushicombo, on 06/09/2008, -0/+3I love when people use their own group of friends to make an argument, ignoring how microscopic a sample size that is, as well as the fact that we tend to surround ourselves with other people who think, speak, and behave the way we do.
You probably don't know a lot of gay drug users because you're not one yourself, not because that group of people is statistically irrelevant. - nutzngum, on 06/09/2008, -1/+2i recently started dating a gay geek...it's great.
he's got ADHD, but hey, at least we're never bored. - TomPhoolery, on 06/09/2008, -1/+2I think a better statistic is "1 in 5 meth users are gay"....which is more likely to be true.
- Roaming, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1I'm straight. I've used it. It makes you horny as *****. When I was high I'd be down to ***** anyone. You don't care. You just want to put your dick into something, haha.
That's a sick drug. There are no rules or boundaries. No remorse or regret until you're down. - pooty2, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1I know several gay men who sadly do tweek. They just do random guys they meet. The 1 in 5 statistic doesn't seem to far-fetched.
- deltron, on 06/09/2008, -0/+20I remember watching an Intervention with a gay meth smoker recently.
He did the same thing, smoked, went online, found gay men, met up, smoked with them (sometimes up to 10) and had sex. He had syphillis and HIV, but failed to get tested for it so he was uninformed. He said in the gay community you'd look like an idiot asking about condoms and stuff like that. They still just feel estranged and that's the lifestyle they're choosing to take.- kublerross, on 06/09/2008, -0/+7yeah god what kind of idiot thinks about their own survival when there is meth and sex to do

MAN made mutation that attacks the cells ! - 47f0, on 06/09/2008, -1/+1The south where? South Africa? Because HIV didn't show up in the South of the U.S. first. Transpecies pathogens are quite common. Natural mutations are quite common.

- encrypteduser, on 06/09/2008, -3/+8Good for you! Unfortunately this is a real problem and we can continue to ignore it and "bury it as horrible" or stand up and make a stand against it.
- jasegruver, on 06/09/2008, -1/+2There's nothing I can do to make these guys stop using meth. It's a choice they made and a choice they have to make to stop. I buried it because it stereotypes gays. Gays come in all shapes, sizes and colors, just like straight people.
- uptwolait, on 06/09/2008, -1/+2No, straight people come in spurts.

- Murrabbit, on 06/09/2008, -3/+13Preach it - I'm gay myself and have a large social circle from Phoenix to LA and up into San Fransisco/Silicon Valley and even on up toward Portland. None of us engages in "high risk" Sex like we're some sort of Republican Senators or something.
When I say social circle I mean we're friends - I've got one boyfriend and one only - we screw like minks, used protection starting out with, but not so much anymore since we've been together for about 2 years now and both trust each other well enough to be totally honest (and have blood tests from the same clinic just because we're staunch empiricists haha).
None of us does drugs - we drink sometimes, socially, we read, shop, play video games, and get this, twice a month at my Boyfriends place a bunch of us in Silicon Valley get together and play D&D and discuss books we're reading. We're a bunch of big harmless geeks who treat echother like family, because most of our families have disowned us.
If anyone wants to talk about "the gay lifestyle", then they better wise up and realize that who you date isn't your entire lifestyle. The guys in that video, they're in an unhealthy lifestyle, no doubt, but don't think for a minute that that's what gays are all about.
Anyhow, if you're ever up in Mt. View near the Google Campus shoot me an e-mail - Our party is missing a rogue!- robocop1, on 06/09/2008, -6/+1"Anyhow, if you're ever up in Mt. View near the Google Campus shoot me an e-mail - Our party is missing a rogue!"
No. - sodade, on 06/09/2008, -0/+2"get together and play D&D and discuss books we're reading."
I'm totally straight and jealous as hell. Now that my college days are long gone, it is much more difficult to find male friends.

- encrypteduser, on 06/09/2008, -0/+5To both of you... I am happy that you live healthy lifestyles, really, I am... but, I personally know people that we're injected into this type of lifestyle because of their own insecurities with being homosexual. I helped recover one of them and I'm not sure where the other is. I'm also not sure how many people are affected by it, but I can imagine it's more than a few thousand. When I say stand up and help, I mean it!
It's sad that this day and age, families still disown their children, brothers, and sisters for being homosexual. It only provokes this type of lifestyle! Educate the families, Educate the children, and make a positive change!- jasegruver, on 06/09/2008, -0/+2I totally respect you for helping out your friend. It's Awesome and you're a better man than I.
With that said, when people put meth into a glass pipe, take a blow torch to it and then hunt online for people to come over and run a train on them without protection.......they know what they are doing. And it's impossible for me to imagine that anything would happen in my life that would make me go digging through the garage for my blow torch to lite up my newly purchased glass pipe.
My parents weren't too thrilled when at 18, I told them I was a fag, but I didn't run out looking for meth and posting pnp ads on Craigslist. - encrypteduser, on 06/09/2008, -0/+5My friend started detaching himself from everyone once his parents disowned him. He quickly found solace in another man who was a frequent party goer. They went out and had a blast and he was able to forget about all of his problems with his new boyfriend. Anyway, one day they met another guy at a party and happened to go back to his house. The other guy had crystal on him and my friends boyfriend immediately joined in on the activities. He reassured my friend that everything was "totally cool" and that said that he only did this once in a while on weekends. Well, unfortunately my friend really liked this dude and followed along. Maybe he didn't fully understand the consequences of that decision but too make a long story short he eventually hit rock bottom and lost everything. Thankfully, I was able to help catch his fall and now I'm happy to report that he is actively raising awareness about his situation.
What you see in this mini-documentary and other documentaries about this subject is people at rock bottom, so you tend to think, "This will never happen to me because I'm not a crack head." Well, it only takes one vulnerable minute to change that really quickly.- zeromous, on 06/09/2008, -0/+2I dugg up this story, because it nearly happened to me exactly the way you described. Only difference being I was not disowned because I was gay (I'm not).
At that moment, that vulnerable moment you talk about, although I didn't realize it at the time, I made the right decision. The decision that I've come to realize would save my life.
It makes me really sad to see those who were not as lucky to make the right decision as I was.

- Motivaaator, on 06/09/2008, -2/+14it's amazing how easily people can be in denial. this probably sounds horrible, but it's hard to feel that much sympathy for brazen stupidity. the rate of HIV infection dropped significantly in the late 80s-early 90s, and has been creeping up, mostly because HIV treatments have been successful, and there aren't people developing AIDS and dying all the time in public. and in the gay community, the post-AIDS (80s) generation are doing all sorts of risky ***** and not even getting tested.
- 47f0, on 06/09/2008, -1/+1"In the gay community..." You're kidding, right? I don't know how to break this to you gently, but straight kids are also indulging in increasingly risky behavior, with a resulting increase in HIV transmission. Thinking of HIV and unsafe sex as only a gay problem has already killed a lot of straight folks - do we need to continue thinking this way?
- metric7, on 06/09/2008, -1/+2It still is mostly a gay and iv user disease
- 47f0, on 06/09/2008, -1/+1Yes, those are risk factors, but you're sort of missing the target here. There are straight men, having unprotected sex with HIV+ prostitutes, convinced that they are safe because this is a "gay and IV drug user" disease. There are an alarming number of teens who believe the same thing. This mentality that "it only happens to those other folks" is killing people today. Do you really want to encourage that?
- Motivaaator, on 06/09/2008, -0/+1I lived in the Castro in SF for a while, and heard repeatedly that the rate of infection there is 50%, and in the 80s, basically everyone there knew several people who died from AIDS. That's dead center of the Gay Community. If anything, that kind of immediate knowledge should make people a lot more cautious and educated within that community. And these aren't kids in this video... The ones interviewed range from 32-60+.

- DanaLynn86, on 06/09/2008, -1/+13I went onto SF Bay area Craigslist to see for myself how many gay men are looking to use meth and ***** like crazy...it turns out, out of the first 100 results I got when searching for "pnp" in the men looking for men section of CL, 83 of them were stating that they were NOT interested in the activity and 17 of them were eager to participate.
Not to make it sound like less of a problem, but honestly, don't state that there were "1100" results when you searched for "pnp" on Craigslist, when obviously that's a skewed number.- nycmac247, on 06/09/2008, -1/+1-

?- BitKid, on 06/09/2008, -1/+2yeah, but a lot of them say they are "not looking for PNP" as a way of getting around the people at craigslist who are trying to delete messages that say they are looking for PNP. so basically "no PNP" means "yes PNP" much of the time. I have heard that since PNP is basically promoting drug use on craigslist they are starting to crack down on it.
- DanaLynn86, on 06/09/2008, -0/+1How do you know that? That seems like some backwards logic to me.
Why wouldn't the creator of the piece have touched on that in some way? I mean, to at least keep some credibility?

- DangerCollie, on 06/09/2008, -0/+30Gosh, let's see. Drugs and anonymous gay sex and it comes as some kind of surprise that HIV is on the rise? I live in Stupidville. Yesterday I saw some young kids out riding 4 wheelers up and down the road with no helmets. We hauled one away in a body bag last year. 14 years old, face mangled so bad we couldn't get a breathing tube down his throat. But the rest of them just don't seem to get the hint. So I quit feeling sorry for them. I'll scrape them off the pavement, wash the blood away with the booster reel. The only time I get really chapped is when one of them gets a traumatic brain injury and the rest of us have to pay for their lifetime of disability.
I'm not being judgmental about anyone's lifestyle, but that one guy saying he turned to drugs and anonymous sex because he wasn't accepted...what a crapass excuse. Get over it. It doesn't bother me he's gay, it doesn't bother me he does drugs. But the people who lose their jobs and lives and the rest of us have to supplement the cost of their HIV drugs, that bothers me.
I don't like paying for stupidity and that applies equally to everyone. Whether they're gay and using drugs or just straight, white and stupid. What a terrible waste of life. - catachip, on 06/09/2008, -0/+3Amazing how a chemical can completely consume the lives of people. I hope that the gay community (particularly in large urban centers like SF and NY) can recognize this problem and tackle it like the original HIV/AIDS scare in the 1980s. Like all issues of addition, this is a public health problem, and needs to be treated as such.
- tehHardcorez, on 06/09/2008, -0/+1Yes, the adding of numbers, particularly fractions, is an eminent threat to our society. It must be dealt with swiftly and thoroughly!

- 47f0, on 06/09/2008, -1/+1Chemicals don't consume the lives of people. Their personal decisions do. We look at drugs as the problem. That's false. They are the symptom, and until we start treating the real problem - why people are turning to drugs in the first place - we are only chasing our tails.
