- kd1s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The money you say we 'waste' on AIDS isn't a waste. All diseases deserve a cure, all, not just your select few.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is really interesting... hope it's okay to speak in a hypothetical sense...
If you read between the lines here, we can simply say that it's possible to improve a person's condition (although perhaps not to the point of curing the disease) with any of the above diseases by minimizing cell oxidation, which is, to say, take in more antioxidant-rich food and decrease foods that contain free-radicals.
Free radicals cause oxidation. Most processed foods as well as quite a number meats contain free radicals, so these should be avoided.
Then of course, eating right all the time takes a considerable amount of discipline. - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yes we all know you think aids is the cleanser of evil
so how would you like it if people ran around saying alzheimers removes old people from society, kinda hurts when people wish a horrible death on you or those you love doesnt it
(disclaimer:I dont believe what I stated, just showing otherland what he does to everyone else) - rderveloy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"Why do you have to spin everything people say? AIDS is no longer a contagious disease, at least not in the West. It's become a lifestyle choice, completely preventable, with exceptions as rare as the rarest genetic diseases."
No it isn't, at least not completely. People have been known to use HIV/AIDS as a weapon and people have given AIDS-infected blood during blood transfusions. Sure, the sexual spread of AIDS can be curbed, but it can still be spread by blood which still makes it a vary dangerous disease.
If you got infected because because you were accidentally given contaminated blood or you fell and pricked yourself on a contaminated needle in the street, I'm sure you'd have a sudden change of heart. - rderveloy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"All blood transfusions get screened these days."
True, but some fall through the cracks or are misidentitifed:

Most of these happened in forign countires and the chances of this happening in the west are rare, but you still have a chance of contracting HIV from a blood transfusion.
Your argument still doesn't change the fact that HIV/AIDS are dangerous and can spread to innocent people. HIV and AIDS are not a "lifestyle choice" that is "completely preventable." Otherwise, people wouldn't get infected would they? Besides, who in their right mind would intentially choose to get infected with HIV or Aids? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"No it isn't, at least not completely. So don't have unprotected sex with strangers you just met.... thats what these women with AIDS do to get revenge on all men. Is that too much to ask of you when your life is at stake? No, you expect massive tax pay dollars spent to cure people that can't control themselves.
"If you got infected because because you were accidentally given contaminated blood"
All blood transfusions get screened these days. So do pregnant women so the baby can be delivered in a way to avoid spreading HIV.
" or you fell and pricked yourself on a contaminated needle in the street, I'm sure you'd have a sudden change of heart."
Urban legend, AIDS doesn't live that long outside the body. As I said, that would be as rare as any of those countless rare genetic diseases that we aren't looking for a cure for. - CatalystGhost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@otherland for 2nd post
Then you should have said that in the first post. The way you came off, that sounded pretty arrogant.
And. come to think of it, you still are. Except now, instead of going after everyone, you're basically saying a) Africans are worthless and can be killed off since we don't feel like researching what is still a huge threat to them and b) Africans are too stupid to prevent the disease themselves, so who cares?
The only difference between the two things is that Alzheimer's comes later in life, when people are SUPPOSED TO DIE. I know it's a shocking fact, but people die when they get old. It was the same way when my grandfather died with it as it will be with your's. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Why do you have to spin everything people say? ... Alright, I gotta stop playing these video games!
(Very cool that progress is being made though) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1My grandfather has this. It's a horrible disease that can't be prevented. I wish all the money we wasted on AIDS research could be spent on curing diseases that afflict innocent people.
