- kemp34, on 02/09/2009, -13/+109Of course. If you feed your kid a bunch of high fructose corn syrup, pure sugar, MSG, sodium, preservative, saturated fat, vegetable oil, greasy crap, they are going to become fat real quick.
Parents of fat kids: wake the ***** up you are literally KILLING your kids.
This sort of abject lack of personal responsibility is why "socialized medicine" is abhorrent. Why should healthful individuals subsidize the health care of ignorant people who guzzle the worst ***** possible on a daily basis, guaranteeing themselves chronic diseases? - shutaro, on 02/09/2009, -0/+75They're not obese, they're famine resistant!
- AmyVernon, on 02/09/2009, -2/+74In other news, parents who let their children watch television have children who watch television.
- glucoseboy, on 02/09/2009, -1/+70So, parents that eat poorly have kids that eat poorly. What a surprise!
- imasuperDOTcom, on 02/10/2009, -0/+60Parents responsible for their own children? A ridiculous notion.
/s - megapeg, on 02/09/2009, -1/+59But it has electrolytes!
- jotate, on 02/10/2009, -1/+31My parents never cooked. We pretty much ordered pizza every night for dinner. Guess how sexy I am.
If you guessed "massively", then you are correct. ;) - Jeffler, on 02/10/2009, -4/+27BREAKING: SKY BLUE
- OptionalPirate, on 02/10/2009, -0/+21It's got what fat kids crave.
- Pake, on 02/10/2009, -1/+20It doesn't help when parents always try to force their children to eat everything on their plate. Honestly, do they think they're going to hibernate for the winter with the amount of ***** they eat?
- poidh, on 02/10/2009, -0/+18One reason for fat kids is that parents are too scared to let them out.
When I was a boy, me and my mates spent all our time out on our bikes or playing football or trespassing to get conkers or generally doing outdoorsy stuff. Consequently, we were all skinny like kids should be. There was only one fat girl in school.
Now, when I pick my nephews up from school, a good proportion of the children are fat, including one of my nephews.
The reason for my nephew being fat is that my sister is too scared to let him out on his own, even though he is 10 years old, whereas I was allowed out on my own from age 5. The local park is now ruled by teenage children who pick on the young children and "get them to do things" like throw stones at windows etc, and my sister is too scared to let him go on a bike ride with his friends in case of "paedophiles". I think the chance of meeting a paedophile is less than it was when I was little, because of the increase in surveilance, but since it is reported non-stop by the media, parents think that they are everywhere. - BlackJackJester, on 02/10/2009, -4/+18New research suggests, after millions of dollars of research, that the sky is still blue.
- Number22Drew, on 02/09/2009, -3/+17Was a study necessary to come to this conclusion. It's common ***** sense that parents are the cause of childhood obesity. Kids rarely choose what they eat, their parents decide for them.
- suprememilo, on 02/10/2009, -5/+19Because when the lilfatties grow up to be bigfatties without health insurance and have a heart attack and go to the ER we are paying for it anyway, but if these kids had health insurance when they were kids and got taken to the Dr. and the Dr. told the parents your kid is gonna die if they don't quit eating lard then maybe there is a chance we don't have to pay for that ER visit.
- RoflCoptah, on 02/10/2009, -0/+13what fat kids crave
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -2/+15ive figured out the cure to obesity!
make your fat ass kid get off their fat ass and go outside and play and cook a decent ***** meal for them instead of pumping them full of mcdonalds you dumb fat ***** - ipushmycar, on 02/10/2009, -0/+12Oh yeah? What are your sources?
- Zarokima, on 02/10/2009, -1/+12Congratulations, you got the joke.
- Moisgreat, on 02/10/2009, -5/+15Bacon tastes good
- imasuperDOTcom, on 02/10/2009, -0/+10You must be new to digg. If I hadn't spelled out the /s, the Bury Brigade would've put me under 20 tons of concrete in less than 10 minutes.
- jmknsd, on 02/10/2009, -1/+11or she could, you know, go out and do stuff with her kids.
- SilverBlade2k, on 02/10/2009, -2/+12Actually, no, it doesn't.
Canada has "Socialized Medicine" (Health Care), and it gives doctors the freedom to actually treat people instead of waiting for permission from a health insurance provider.
My family would be in serious debt, probably homeless, if I was in the U.S. I personally had to have 8 rounds of chemotherapy, and a bone marrow transplant..this is easily $100,000 or more.
It works.. - immatellyouwhat, on 02/10/2009, -0/+10I am not new , I just think it was a great comment that if anyone was that stupid not to get it they should be getting coloring books for the rest of their lives.
- Arkanok, on 02/09/2009, -3/+13There are just too many stupid people breeding these days. Those stupid people feed their kids whatever because they don't realize that it'll ***** up their kids in the future, nor do they care. It's sad as hell, really.
- poidh, on 02/10/2009, -3/+12"I'm an organic, mostly vegetarian caterer and I refuse to give my clients junk food of any kind"
Food Nazi. Holier than thou. - NickLee808, on 02/10/2009, -6/+15Buried for "vegetarian."
- imasuperDOTcom, on 02/10/2009, -0/+8@immatellyouwhat:
lol. Coloring books. That's a keeper, and I'm saving it for later. Thanks. :) - Murrabbit, on 02/10/2009, -0/+8Wait. . . you mean parents are responsible for their children's behavior and well being? Not corporations? not the government? I refuse to believe this - run the study again, it must be Video games or something making them fat - maybe rock music!
- elliotys, on 02/10/2009, -2/+10Burried for digging the vegetarian.
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7We needed a study to tell us that the people who are the capable ones of driving a car in a family, earn the money, use said money to buy food for their family, may in fact be the one's that contribute to obesity? I don't believe it, you see 8 year old obese children driving SUV's everywhere these days and picking up McDonalds. Although if we actually made people responsible for their child's diet, we wouldn't have those awesomely trashy people on Maury talking about how their 3 year old weighs 160 lbs and has to scoot to move and how it's everyone's fault but their own and they just can't understand why she/he gains weight when they feed it 8 pieces of fried chicken, 9 cokes, 2 bags of M&M's, 3 hot dogs, fried potatos, and a big fry and ice cream before bed. Of Course it must be somethign medically wrong with the child....
- pintocat, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7Finally.
People need to quit trying to find "conditions" for everything. You're not genetically forced to be fat, like some kind of manifest destiny.
You have the same genes as your ancestors (combined). They weren't fat. You know why? They worked hard, and didn't snack every 15 minutes. - maz2331, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7So does Copper Chloride, but I don't drink the solutions of it.
- poidh, on 02/10/2009, -1/+8She does, although due to work commitments etc she is unable to do this whenever the children have spare time. When I was little, my parents didn't have to work all hours since mortgages were a lot more affordable. Add in that children have a lot more energy than adults. The issue here is that children have less independance than they used to.
- MalarkeyPN, on 02/10/2009, -2/+9The study was necessary because sometimes scientific studies debunk "common ***** sense." Now that it's proven, people will be willing and able to fund projects / create legislation to do something about it.
- drex8, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7So going by your theory, do you think MrBabyMan's children will be hardcore diggers too? An honest question.
- PamalaLauren, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7Yes this is so true as well. For some reason parents assume the world is worse than it is these days. Truth is it's safer today than it was for us as children. Our children can go out and play and ride bikes without getting hurt. And they need to get out. You can see some of this over protectiveness even at the infant ages. Parents not taking their children outside for 6 months or hovering over their children as they play on the play ground. Back off people. Let your kids play and explore!
- tetraelement, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7About f*cking time. No that we have someone to blame, can we please deal with it.
- Butters757, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7I do.
- jotate, on 02/10/2009, -0/+6Jesus Christ. *This* is how people treat each other on the internet? Man, my mom warned me, but holy crap, you're a jerk. If I encounter anymore heartless bastards like you, I'm done with this interweb thing. Hopefully people are nicer over at this 4chan website I've heard about.
- cJw314, on 02/10/2009, -1/+7...said the fat kid.
- alexsk8ca, on 02/10/2009, -1/+7NO. *****. *****.
Most times there are problems with kids its the parents fault, kids can't make a lot of good choices for themselves so who do you think makes those choices? - RoflCoptah, on 02/10/2009, -1/+7b-b-b-but what about bacon?
- geekswife, on 02/09/2009, -2/+8No Kidding...
- cam0man, on 02/10/2009, -1/+7I'm not vegetarian, but I think it's obvious that everyone needs to eat fresh and not processed foods. Ask yourself, what do you think is healthier? Frozen dinner or fresh chicken and veggies? Why don't people live by what they know is obviously better for them? All that processed ***** is so ***** gross, once I changed my diet around a couple years ago, I can't even eat that processed ***** anymore. you'll instantly feel better if you eat fresh and then once you go back to the mass produced drivel you realize it's not what your body is asking you for.
- Zomgondo, on 02/10/2009, -3/+9Buried for having zero business sense.
- noctu, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5parents need to quit feeding their kids what TV dictates and take the time to cook real meals.
- ImOscar, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5Filed under "No ***** Sherlock"
- derpaderp, on 02/09/2009, -3/+8No *****, have they ever looked at a family in a supermarket that shop together, that would have saved them a few months of the study right there
- Amazetbm, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5Some one needed to conduct a study to come to that conclusion? Give me a break.
- monomyth, on 02/10/2009, -1/+6I am SHOCKED!
