- ahawks, on 09/29/2008, -8/+136I had to read that quite a few times before I realized it was "Pain" and not "Palin"... makes much more sense now.
- AdeleMor, on 09/30/2008, -2/+49You know you're obsessed with the election when you see a headline that reads "Pain is Not a Symptom of Arthritis" and your brain reads it as "Palin is Not a Symptom of Arthritis."
- stasis, on 09/30/2008, -6/+50Was it wrong that I read pain as Palin?
- zuk1, on 09/30/2008, -0/+29I had the same problem, I kept reading the title: "WTF Palin causes arthiritis?"
- Intervene, on 09/30/2008, -6/+31LOL. Agreed, read it as Palin. Too many Palin submissions!
- jackpot, on 09/30/2008, -7/+25I read, "Palin is Not a Symptom of Arthritis, Palin Causes Arthritis"
These elections are getting to me... - GeorgeStone2, on 09/30/2008, -0/+16Haha I read it like that too. I was all "Damn, The liberals are really clutching at straws on this one."
- wrmjr, on 09/30/2008, -0/+14I'm guessing that most of the diggers that have read this so far are too young to truly understand the pain and disability caused by OA, MS and other chronic pain conditions. If this study leads to new and safe treatments, the effects would be enormous, not only on the lives of millions of suffering people, but also on our economy, as less productivity will be lost to the effects of pain.
- T00LB0X, on 09/30/2008, -4/+18Actually her interviews are pretty painful to watch...so the case could be made that Palin does in-fact cause Arthritis...lets sue her.
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -4/+17So 90% of these comments is 'I read it as Palin' isnt one person enough? cant you just digg the first person that said it?
- Hoogs, on 09/30/2008, -0/+11Lol, same here. Digg has brainwashed us...
- T00LB0X, on 09/30/2008, -0/+8was gonna say the same thing
- Berkana, on 09/30/2008, -0/+8As Kathleen Parker said, "I’ve also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does. My cringe reflex is exhausted."
My cringe reflex is also exhausted. Palin is so painful to listen to, her name is now synonymous with pain. - Mujokan, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7Go to your doctor. Get a referral to a specialist in repetitive strain disorder.
In the meantime, avoid using your mouse...
Or if Palin causes arthritis, avoid using your moose... - vilago, on 09/30/2008, -2/+9seriously? are we making this article about this stupid ***** election when it has 100% nothing to do with it other than digger's crappy eyes? jesus christ
- XxtraLarGe, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7Don't worry, Daily Kos of Huff-n-Puff will have an article on Palin causing Arthritis later today...
- spectxim, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7Might I suggest a....... doctor?
- Hentavir, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7it seems more carpal tunnel syndrome
- Hoogs, on 09/30/2008, -1/+7Ok, I'm going to hijack this thread quick, because I'm curious about something. My wrist has been hurting on and off for about the past year. When it hurts, it's very painful to bend, as well as stretch out my fingers. It'll go away eventually, but will resurface if I strain my wrist too much. It doesn't LOOK any different, no swelling or anything. Could it be arthritis? I'm only 20 years old.
- Meocross, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6HAHAHAHA that is exacly what i thought!, i had to read this the sixth time
"oh......shi- that was P.A.I.N. *smacks head*" - inactive, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5I like it.
- MuadDave, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5"...as patients loose the protective cushion between bones..."
Aargh!!!! Lose, not loose! - KSUdesigner, on 09/30/2008, -2/+7That's what happens when you masterbate too much.
- ks136, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5Hello, Voice of Reason. Thank you.
- datacowboy, on 09/30/2008, -1/+5I thought it said Palin at first glance as well.
- thewrathoffluff, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4I think Digg has had one-to-many Palin articles if we're all having this same problem..
- hermes369, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4I'm 36. I had to quit my twenty-plus year career as a professional ballet dancer at 30 because of OA in both big toe joints bilaterally. Learning to do something else has been ok, I do tech stuff and I teach ballet (which I've found surprisingly rewarding). Making this transition has not been without difficulty, in fact, I was in a pretty dark place for a while (TMI). Anyway, if these doc's can come up with a treatment, I'll take it; even if I worked my ass off, I'd only have two or maybe four years left to do anything worth looking at. It would be worth it to me. So applause to these guys and sign me up!
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Yes. Arthritis is just a symptom of inflammation. Unchecked inflammation can result in arthritis.
Change your diet. - Kyora, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4I was going on comment on it, until I saw yours. So I dugg you up because I read it five times as "Palin Causes Arthritis."
- nowhereelse, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4I read it as 'pain'.
- theadvinci, on 09/30/2008, -1/+5If your joints hurt, hurt them back!
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Indeed. Google "osteoarthritis drugs contraindications" sometime to get a feel for how bad the current arthritis drugs are. Fact is, you WILL experience at least one if you take the drugs for any length of time. You may try switching drugs, but eventually you will be put on another drug to treat those contraindications. Then, you will experience contraindications due to *that* drug.
It's a downward spiral. - ajresch, on 09/30/2008, -3/+6Wait, wait, wait...
I thought "Pain is weakness leaving the body."
So, you're saying every high school athlete's t-shirts may be wrong!?!? - Casserole69, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Agreed about the proof reading.
But, I don't see where they were mixing up RA with OA. They are basically saying that IL-1beta is common to both RA and OA, and that a drug that works in reducing pain and inflammation in RA could work for OA. - Rudegar, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3I am not human! I feel no Palin! I can not be reasoned with!
:P - jjfac, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Dugg for trickery.
- cplusplus, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3A rather cool article. Strange that its on physorg.
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Well this probably means that supplements like glucosamine etc. which relieve pain as they help rebuild cartilage may actually be preventive.
- jakethelake, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3I read it as Palin as well
- elevatedms, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Same here....took me a couple of reads before I got the headline right.
- TCKC2C, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2I'll get a tox screen right away.
- dborgir, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2ditto
- surfous, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Not likely carpal tunnel syndrome, though an 3 position x-ray of your wrist can tell for sure. CTS is generally felt in the thumb, middle and index fingers rather than the wrist proper. A blood test can confirm or rule out rheumatoid factor. Probably tendonitis, I'd guess, but IANAD. Prior posts are right, though - go see your doctor.
NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen can help with inflammation (which is probably probably not visible), and warmth can help, too, either warm water, or get a paraffin bath for your hand/wrist. - Mujokan, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3Me also.
I need to get off the internets for a while... - Mujokan, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3Sometimes when I see:
- McCain -
-- Palin --
I read the first word as McPain, totally involuntarily - brightlight4, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2I didn't realise there were so many sheeple on digg!!! One makes a comment on Palin and all follow, what a bunch of thickos!!
- kohl34, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2ditto
- mbthorman, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Think again! She IS hazardous to your health! And your health insurance if you're lucky enough to have any!
- priegog, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Rheumathoid arthritis, commonly only called arthritis is NOT the same as osteoarthritis (or better called, IMHO arthrosis).
I wish journalists would have their articles proof-read by a member of the community/proffesion about which their article talks. That surely ought to make medicine/engineering/science articles much more accurate and credible.
