To truly quit a substance you need to acknowledge that you no longer want to use it, not just simply deprave yourself of what you want, that is not fixing the problem. If I wanted to quit smoking cigarettes, I would buy a full pack and put them away somewhere, going back to it everyday to make myself look at it, and remind myself why I am doing what I am. Once you realize you are now making the choice not to smoke, and not just simply depraving yourself of it, quitting becomes so much easier. Remember too that everyday you go without is one less day you will crave the substance. This was my experience at least, though I dealt with something FAR worse than cigarettes.
